Keyence IV Camera Setup Instructions

Part Numbers and Options

Initial Setup and Wiring

Blue wire goes to DC Common (Negative) and Brown wire goes to Positive for Power

I/O Settings > Input > I/O Polarity : We only use PNP Polarity in the plant.

I/O Settings > Input > Enable program switching: This lets us change programs in PLC

I/O Settings > Input > Input Assignment : Set and land wires this according to the guides on the next page and the Color codes above. Guide is summarized below. P00 is highest used: IN1=Ext Trigger P01 is highest used: IN1=Ext Trigger, IN2=bit0 P02-P03 is highest used: IN1=Ext Trigger, IN2=bit0, IN3=bit1 P04-P07 is highest used: IN1=Ext Trigger, IN2=bit0, IN3=bit1, IN4=bit2 P08-P15 is highest used: IN1=Ext Trigger, IN2=bit0, IN3=bit1, IN4=bit2, IN5=bit3 P16-P31 is highest used: IN1=Ext Trigger, IN2=bit0, IN3=bit1, IN4=bit2, IN5=bit3, IN6=bit4

I/O Settings > Output: Output Settings can be left at default while the camera is running Camera should be set to One-Shot. If default times do not work well due to PLC timing or slow network connection, ON Time may have to be increased. Output Type can be temporarily set to Latching when testing Outputs during wiring. But DO NOT leave it set this way.

Advanced > Environmental > Change Network Settings : Enter IP Address settings here

Image History > Logging Settings : Change this to All during setup so that you will have a good number of images saved when you want to test the programs offline or adjust tolerances

Advanced > Setup Adjustment > White Balance : If close colors are being judged, stable performance of the camera would be improved by Enabling White Balance Adjustment. This eliminates any overcast color on all images that can be caused by ambient lighting.

File > Batch Backup : This will let you back up the cameras settings and each Program setting. You can also choose to save all images in the image history.

Individual Program Settings

Sensor Setup > Image Optimization > Trigger Options > Trigger Options : Trigger should be set to External Trigger so that PLC can trigger the camera. Delay should be set to 20-50 ms.

Sensor Setup > Image Optimization > Extended Functions > Lighting Mode : Lighting is usually set to Flash so that bulbs last longer. Light will turn off between Triggers in this mode. If the image is not bright enough, or Flash bothers operators, Lighting can be set to Continuous for individual programs. Lighting will not turn off between Triggers in this mode unless P00 is set to Flash mode or left blank.

Sensor Setup > Image Optimization > Brightness Adjustment : Brightness and Imaging mode can be set automatically or adjusted manually. Setting should be bright enough to distinguish colors or outlines, but not so bright that colors are washed out or glare is introduced. It is suggested to use the same settings for all similarly colored parts. This will make it easier to test programs for Passing and Failing the correct colors. If individual color program settings are all different, colors may Pass / Fail correctly when testing images in the image history, but actually Pass / Fail incorrectly in Run mode. Set lighting by putting all similar colors in front of the camera and setting the brightness and mode that distinguishes them the best. If colors are very close, or glare is an issue, a Polarization Lens can be added. Brightness has to be increased after adding this lens, because it dims the lighting somewhat.

Sensor Setup > Image Optimization > Focus Adjustment : Focus adjustment can be set automatically of manually It is suggested to use the same settings for each program that looks at the same part. This will make it easier to test programs for Passing and Failing correctly. If individual program focus settings are all different, images may Pass / Fail correctly when testing images in the image history, but actually Pass / Fail incorrectly in Run mode.
