17 When wild plant and animal populations are logged, fished, or hunted, only the oldest and largest individuals tend to be taken. Many of the commercially important species are long lived and are slow to begin reproducing. Here is life table of a hypothetical population of moose that is currently NOT being hunted (it is in a large wildlife reserve). However, if hunting is allowed, and is not regulated carefully (as described above), how might hunting affect the population’s life table and growth rate? Specifically, you should mention how mortality will change in some age classes but not others, and how changes in those age classes will affect the birth rate of the population.
