DRAWING STUDENTS MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

Students in Ms. Nestrud’s Drawing 2 and 3 class recently completed portrait drawings of teen orphans in Mexico. The Memory Project is a charitable non-profit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create and donate portraits to youth around the world. “We hope the portraits help the teens to feel valued. This project is an opportunity for my students to use their art in an act of kindness and it provides a sense of global awareness,” said Nestrud.

“It is different drawing an orphan from another part of the world because it is something that is much more real than a model out of a magazine“ Nick Konietzko, grade 11

“You see them as a person, as a peer. It gives you an insight into what they’re like and who they are, something you can’t get from a magazine.” Donna Johnson, grade 11

“Drawing for someone makes that person feel special and happy for that little bit and also makes the artist happy too!” Cooper Adcock, grade 10

“I also like doing the orphan project because it’s important to me to know that my drawing is making someone happy.” Brittney Peters, grade 12

These essay winners were invited to a private reception with Jus-tice Page at the Educational Forum in St. Paul where they could meet and participate in a question and answer session with him. Recipient Lauren Rishovd was honored on-stage during the program with the first place Kristie Award.
