5 Facts about Smarter Bal-

anced Assessments

1. In Washington, the new Smarter Balanced tests will replace the math, reading and writing portions of the MSP students in grades 3-8. The science portion of the MSP (tested in grades 5 and 8) will remain the same. Stu-dents will not take the new Smarter Balanced tests in

grades K-2, 9, 10 or 12.

2. 11th graders will take the high school level of the new Smarter Balanced tests, but meeting standard on the tests is not a graduation require-

ment until the Class of 2019.

3. There are three components in the Smarter Balanced sys-tem: Digital Library, Interim Assessments and Summative Assessments. Washington schools will have access to all

of these.

4. “Interim” assessments are op-tional. They are flexible, non-secure periodic assessments to be offered at teachers’ and schools’ discretion throughout the school year. These computer-based tests will provide mean-ingful feedback that teachers can use to help students suc-

ceed.

5. Available this fall, the Smarter Balanced Digital Library will pro-vide resources that support K-12 educators with the four attributes of formative assessment: Clarify Intended Learning, Elicit Evi-dence, Interpret Evidence, and Act on Evidence. Through the li-brary teachers will have access to searchable database of 1000’s of vetted high-quality grade and sub-ject specific, Common Core aligned Education Resources. In addition to this educator-contributed content, the library will contain two-types of interac-tive, multimedia modules built by experts: Subject- and grade-specific Exemplar Instructional Modules that model the formative assessment process in the context of the Common Core State Stand-ards and Professional Learning Modules on Assessment Literacy designed to help educators deep-en their understanding of the formative assessment process in

daily instruction.

2) Give food and/or cash/check donations to "Orting Food Bank Holiday 2014"

3) Select individual gift(s) Tag from a “giving gift box” to purchase
