Activity overview

1. Landscape Conservation Master Plan (LCMP)Work to develop conservation action plans for each of ten landscapes continued throughout January – April 2015. Each action plan will be combined into the Landscape Conservation Master Plan (LCMP) which will form the roadmap/blueprint guiding the implementation of activities across all ten landscapes. Activities undertaken included:•Focus Group Discussions (FGD) in Palembang with stakeholders of the Dangku Landscape; Pekanbaru, with stakeholders of the Giam Siak Kecil Landscape; Samarinda, with stakeholders of the Kutai Landscape; Palembang, with stakeholders of Sugihan/OKI Landscape; and Pontianak, with stakeholders of Kubu Landscape; Pekanbaru, with stakeholders of Senepis, Kampar Peninsula & Kerumutan Landscapes.•APP also signed an agreement with YAPEKA (Yayasan Pendidikan Konservasi Alam), who had been selected to develop the LCMP.

2. Sustainable Management of Peat Ecosystem – Kerumutan LandscapeThe Peat Ecosystem is a MoEF/GEF/IFAD project which is developed to support Indonesia on the ASEAN programme for Sustainable Management of Peatland Ecosystem as well as national strategies and plans. APP is planning to provide in-kind support to the programme through LiDAR mapping data, as well as any other peatland management within concessions located in Kerumutan landscape. The goal is to enhance the capacity of sustainable peatland management, reduce peatland degradation and fires, and demonstrate integrated peatland management in Indonesia.

3. GP MCA-I (Green Prosperty – Millenium Challenge Account- Indonesia) - Berbak Sembilang LandscapeAPP is planning to provide in-kind support to the landscape forest protection and rehabilitation activities being undertaken by KEHIJAU BERBAK as part of the GP MCA-I project in the Berbak-Sembilang landscape. The project includes ZSL and a consortium of other NGOs, Universities and Consulting Companies including WARSI, Deltares and the University of Indonesia. The goal is to reduce poverty through low carbon economic growth in the Berbak landscape. APP’s in-kind support includes the provision of LiDAR landscape mapping data. 4. RIMBA Corridor ProgrammeThe RIMBA corridor programme is a WWF/Global Environment Facility/UNEP programme focussed on ecosystem connectivity in the Bukit Tigapuluh landscape. APP is providing in-kind support to the cost of Sustainable Forest Management.

5. Forest Restoration (Community Based Approach) – Giam Siak Kecil LandscapeIn October 2014, Professor Miyawaki, a well-known Japanese Botanist and Expert in plant ecology, came to one of our concession area in Perawang, Riau to inspire the community living in Rasau Kuning District to plant trees. During his visit, he recommended an initiative to plant 10,000 Shoreasp (dipterocarpaceae). In line with APP's commitment to support 1 mio ha restoration and protection of natural forest, APP is now preparing a 25 ha forest restoration project in the core zone of GSK Landscape and Rasau Kuning District which can accommodate around 10,000 Shoreasp (dipterocarpaceae). Furthermore, the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) Japan is planning to collaborate in forest enrichment by planting an exchange species and sharing information. APP welcomes more collaboration and support from all stakeholders.
