I continue to be an active member in my academy (American Academy of Periodontology) and I support the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation through annual donations. For four years, I have been the proud leader of a Spear Dental Study Club. WHERE ARE YOU FROM, AND WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO PRACTICE IN ALBUQUERQUE? I grew up in Phoenix and have always loved the Southwest. While in residency, an opportunity came available to purchase a private practice in Albuquerque. I fell in love with the high desert climate, great outdoor activities, the people, and the green chile. WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE A DENTIST? During my 4th year in college, I came to appreciate that dentistry was a science and an art. e idea of working with my hands and also utilizing my science background was very appealing. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN? I enjoy spending my free time with my family. My wife, children, and I enjoy exploring New Mexico, hiking, and eating at Rebel Donut on the weekend. DO YOU FIND YOUR FAMILY IS MORE CONSCIENTIOUS ABOUT ORAL HEALTH BECAUSE OF YOU? Yes! My wife is also a dentist; tooth brushing and flossing are a must in our household. Dr. Kevin Harrison has been practicing periodontics (the study of the support structures around the teeth) and dental implant surgery for a decade here in the Duke City. Dr. Harrison loves his craft, loves his patients, and loves his city. He constantly facinated by the technological advancements in his field, but he is even more excited about running a small business and raising his two little boys. In his free time, he loves exploring the outdoors, with a special place in his heart for the Sandia Foothills. Which is better for total cleaning: string flossing or water flossing? Either method is effective as long as you are properly cleaning between the teeth. The Water Pik is great for harder to reach areas of the teeth.
