Good afternoon.

I believe both of you are aware about the SaveEyeCare campaign happening because of government neglect andunderfunding of optometry services in Ontario.

As you are more than aware, health care services of all nature are lacking Timmins and the surrounding areas.We only have one ophthalmologist. Optometrists in the area provide primary eye care services to thousands ofpatients. We manage and treat diseases, probably more than compared to Southern Ontario, because we don'thave the luxury of sending those patients down the street to the ophthalmologist. Anytime I need to refer apatient, I make sure I have done all I can in my office because that referral means a 3- 4 or 8 hour drive alongwith further health care costs like the northern travel grants. Forcing optometrists to provide health care servicesbelow the direct cost to provide the service is not sustainable.

Several municipalities have passed a motion/ resolution to acknowledge the eye care crisis and the need for the

ministry to enter into negotiations. See below for the Oakville motion.

I'm wondering if Timmins has considered passing such a resolution? Is it possible for Timmins to pass aresolution and forward it to all surrounding municipalities for endorsement( NEOMA or FONOM)?
