INDUSTRY PROFILE

The Indian feed industry is about 35 years old. It is mainly

restricted to dairy and poultry feed manufacturing. Feedmanufacturing on a commercial and scientific basis startedaround 1965 with the setting up of medium-sized feed plants innorthern and western India.

There are only a few cattle feed industry in India especially

in Kerala. The cattle feed industry is been utilizing the indigenousraw material i.e.; coconut cake, which is the residue after theextraction of oil from copra which is mainly used as a cattle feed.

Today, the Indian feed industry is worth approximately Rs45 billion, that is about US$1 billion. The quality standards ofIndian feeds are high and up to international levels. Raw materialsfor feed are adequately available in India. The feed industry hasmodern computerized plants and the latest equipment foranalytical procedures and least-cost ration formulation, and it

employs the latest manufacturing technology.

COMPANY PROFILE

The KSE Ltd situated 1.5 km from the heart ofIrinjalakuda is the first exporting company of compound cattlefeed from Kerala. It is a product oriented company. Cattle feedis the main product of the company. Other products are oil

cake, de oiled cake, milk, dairy products & ice cream. Milk &dairy products are marketed under the name KS and icecream marketed under the name Vesta. All products are wellaccepted in the market.

KSE has come a long way from the early days of, its

struggle for capital mobilization. At present the paid up capitalof the company stands at Rs.32 million and its shares are listedat leading stock exchanges of Mumbai, Chennai, and Kochi.

FINDINGS

The company mainly depends on cash sales.

The company has provided safety masks for the workers butthey are not using it.

Earlier they have more customers in Trissur district but nowbecause of the competition from Kerala feeds they have

customers in southern districts.

Customer care is handling by marketing department .

SUGGESTIONS

Separate customer care department is an urgentrequirement.

Adapting modern IT and communication methods can

improve Brand Image and publicity.

CONCLUSION

KSE Limited has an annual turnover of Rs.371 core .It isthe largest manufacturer of cattle feed. It providesemployment to around 1500 numbers directly and another5000 indirectly. It is a listed company having shares traded

in Cochin, Chennai and Mumbai stock exchanges. Thecompany commenced its production in the year 1972.

KSE in theoil extraction Industry for the past 31 years. It ishaving two solvent plants with processing capacity of 710tons per day at Irinjalakkuda.

It is pertinent to note that in the Kerala industrial scenario,where many companies are closing down, either due tolabor unrest or due to either economic reasons, KSE

continue to commerce new ventures since 1972 and runthem successfully. The company is having six units atdifferent locations. The elation with the labor union of allthese units is very warm and cordial.

As a pioneer in the solvent extraction industry, leader in thecattle field manufactures, and emerging force in ice-creamand new resourceful entity in the dairy development andmilk products, KSE is determined to move with the times,

taking on new challenges achieving new milestones.

The organization study gives an idea about theperformance and management functions, which to its

success of the organization, KSE Limited.
