Dear Graduate,Congratulations are in order as you come to the conclusion of your ministry preparation at Asbury Theological Seminary. Much has occurred during your journey here. Friendships have been formed, spirits have been shaped, souls have been healed and minds have been enlightened. Our God has been faithful.

May the same rugged faith that brought you to seminary take you on to higher heights and deeper depths into the heart of Jesus Christ. May the overflow of your life in God touch those you are called to serve.

This brochure provides a schedule of events surrounding graduation. Please check the deadlines and RSVP dates for all events listed.

10 a.m. Celebration of WorshipHughes Auditorium, Asbury UniversityJoin family and friends for worship, student stories and a brief message from Dr. Timothy Tennent, President.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Graduation PicnicIn honor of the graduates, come celebrate with your friends, family and faculty. A picnic lunch will be provided on the green. Please bring your own blankets. In case of rain, location will be moved to the gym.

1:15 p.m. Commencement AssemblyLuce Center, Room 182, Asbury UniversityRequired for all graduates Arrive promptly for commencement lineup. Faculty will gather in designated hallway of Luce Center at 1:30 p.m.

2 p.m. Commencement Ceremony Luce Center, Asbury UniversityGuest seating is not reserved. Limited handicapped parking is available; please use the front door drop-off area if needed.

Schedule of events

Caps and gowns Caps and gowns will be distributed at the Asbury Seminary Bookstore beginning Tuesday, May 10, 2011. The bookstore hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday and special graduation day hours of 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.-5:30p.m. If you indicated on your graduation application that you will be attending the ceremony, rental academic attire is required and was ordered for you based on the information supplied on your graduation application. The academic attire rental fee will be payable to the bookstore upon pick-up of the rental regalia. If you do not have a Cokesbury account, an account can be created the day you pick up your graduation attire. The cap, gown, and hood rental is $60 plus tax for all graduates. Following graduation, please return caps, gowns, and hoods to the Seminary bookstore before 5:30 p.m. To ensure proper record keeping, be certain your name is checked off the returned list before leaving. A $20 daily fee will be charged to your Cokesbury account until the regalia is returned. If you have any questions, please contact the bookstore at 859.858.4242.

Commencement ChildcareCommencement childcare reservations must be made by Wednesday, May 11. Childcare is provided only for children of graduates and is limited to children age six and younger. To register, email [email protected] with children’s names and ages. Pre-registered children may be taken to the Sherman Thomas Student Center childcare area one hour before commencement begins and should be picked up immediately after the ceremonies have concluded.

DiplomasActual diplomas will not be in your folders at commencement. When all grades are entered and records are cleared, degrees will be posted to transcripts and diplomas mailed. Please allow four to six weeks processing time from the end of the term in which you graduate. Please be sure to provide the Registrar’s Office with a current address.

GradesGrades will be posted as soon as they are submitted and may be accessed through oneATS. Grades will not be released over the phone or by fax. Official transcripts must be requested in writing with an original signature through the Registrar’s Office. Official transcripts may be requested in advance and held until degree is posted, as noted on transcript form.

PhotographsIndividual professional photographs will be taken of graduates while shaking hands with the president and receiving diploma covers. Proofs will be available on the photographers website. Further instructions will be given at rehearsal.

Information ServicesSeminary graduates will automatically be transitioned to the Alumni version of oneATS and retain their Seminary email addresses. The ATLAS library database will continue to be offered as a resource for research needs. Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.

Attendance is required at both rehearsal and commencement unless the graduate has notified the registrar in writing that their degree will be received in absentia. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
