STATE SONG State Song “My Old Kentucky Home” "My Old Kentucky Home" (originally titled "Poor Uncle Tom, Good Night!", and

sometimes also titled "My Old Kentucky Home, Good-Night!") is the state song of Kentucky. It was published by Stephen Foster in 1853 and was adopted by the Kentucky General Assembly as the official state song on March 19, 1928.

Built at the location of Lincoln's birth the solid marble, neoclassical monument houses the symbolic cabin of Lincoln's birth.

Although Daniel Boone is often remembered as Kentucky's most famous pioneer, Dr. Thomas Walker was actually the first frontiersman in Kentucky, preceding Boone by 17 years. A physician and surveyor, Walker led the first expedition through Cumberland Gap in 1750. Dr. Walker was an agent for the Loyal Land Company of Virginia and was exploring the western wilderness seeking land for settlement. Near the river, which he named the Cumberland; Dr. Walker built the first cabin in Kentucky, a replica of which stands on the site today. Dr. Walker’s journal, recorded during his four-month exploration, described plentiful wildlife, thickly tangled woods and rugged terrain.

THE GOVERNOR OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY IS THE HEAD OF THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT IN THE U.S. STATE OF KENTUCKY. FIFTY-SIX MEN AND ONE WOMAN HAVE HELD THE OFFICE OF GOVERNOR OF KENTUCKY. THE GOVERNOR'S TERM IS FOUR YEARS IN LENGTH, AND SINCE 1992, INCUMBENTS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEEK RE-ELECTION ONCE BEFORE BECOMING INELIGIBLE FOR FOUR YEARS.
