System RequirementsPC with the following specifications:

Windows VISTA or Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or higher(Service Pack 2 recommended)

10MB of available disk space

CD-ROM or DVD drive USB 2.0 port

Installing the SoftwareThe Software Installation CD contains several software drivers. Driversare software that allows the various components of your Docking Station(sound, video, and so on) to work.

Important! You must install the software before you can use

your Docking Station with peripheral devices. If a Kensingtondocking station and related driver was previously installed into

your system it is recommended to uninstall the old driver beforeproceeding with the installation of the Kensington NotebookExpansion Dock with video.

Note:Be sure to check www.kensington.com for driver updates orenhancements.1 Insert the Software Installation CD into your notebooks CD/DVD

drive. The installation application opens automatically.

2 Follow the onscreen instructions to install the software drivers.Note:During the installation of the video drivers, your notebook screenmay occasionally go blank for a few seconds. This is a normal part of theinstallation process.3 If prompted on notebook screen, reboot your notebook.Note:The Found New Hardware wizard will appear if you connect thedocking station without previously installing the driver.

It is recommended to Cancel the installation through the Found NewHardware wizard and follow the instructions provided in this chapter.

Connecting Your Docking Station and Your Notebook1 Plug the power adapter into the power adapter jack on the Docking

Station. Then plug the power adapter into a working electrical outlet.

Note:Always keep the Docking Station connected to the power adaptersupplied with the product. Video capabilities are NOT supported withoutthe power adapter connected to the Docking Station. The performanceof other devices connected to the ports of the Docking Station may alsobe limited without the power adapter connected. Note also that yourDocking Station does not power your notebook when they are connected.2 Attach the USB 2.0 Cable to the USB Upstream Connector on your

Docking Station.

3 Attach the USB 2.0 Cable to a USB port on your notebook. The systemwill identify the new device connected to your system and willcongure it automatically. Wait until this process is completed inorder to have the video output of the Docking Station activated.

Using Your Docking StationYou may connect devices to the appropriate port on the Docking Stationwhile your notebook is running. A slight delay is normal before thenotebook recognizes the new device.

USB 2.0 PortsConnect any USB device to any of the Docking Stations four USB ports.Each port has a status indicator light that shows the status of that port:

When no device is connected to the port, the indicator light is off. If a device is connected to the port and the connection works properly,

the indicator light glows green.Note:If a USB device is connected to the Docking Station and does notwork as expected, test the device by connecting it directly to one of yournotebooks available USB ports.

Video PortConnect a VGA cable (sold separately) to the VGA video output port onthe Docking Station and to an external monitor. The VGA cable can beconnected and disconnected any time without disconnecting the DockingStation from your notebook.You can adjust video settings to customize your use of the DockingStation with Video; see Adjusting Video Settings, below, forinformation.Note:We recommend that you auto-adjust the external monitor once

in a while to realign its settings with the video output of the DockingStation. Refer to your monitors user manual for instructions on how to dothe auto-adjust procedure.

Ethernet PortThe Ethernet port is a USB 2.0-to-Fast-Ethernet adapter. Connect anetwork cable (sold separately) to the Ethernet port for high-performancenetwork access. The Ethernet ports indicator lights work as follows: The light to the left of the port glows when there is a network

connection.

The light to the right of the port glows when there is network activity.

Disconnecting the Docking StationYou can connect and disconnect the Docking Station while your notebookis running.If the Docking Station is transferring data through one of its USB 2.0connections, wait until the data has finished transferring: for USB flashdriver you might have to use the Windows safe eject to write any cachedinformation back to the drive before disconnecting the dock.

Disconnect the USB 2.0 cable from your notebooks USB 2.0 port.When the USB 2.0 cable is removed, the display of the external monitorconnected to the Docking Station will go blank.Note:If the video output of the Docking Station is configured in Extended(dualview) (see Video Modes, below), then any open windows onthe external monitor move to the primary notebook screen. When theDocking Station is reconnected to the notebook, the video output is againconfigured for Extended (dualview) with the external monitor. However,windows that were previously on the external monitor will not move backto that secondary monitor.

Video ModesThe Docking Station video output works in two modes: Extended (dualview)

CloneNOTES FOR Windows VISTA USERS:Using the docking station in bothClone and Extended Mode will require the system to switch to theWindows Basic Theme for the user interface. If the Vista Aero Glasssetting is available in your laptop it will change to Windows Basic Themewhen the dock is connected. The Vista Aero Glass mode is restored oncethe laptop is disconnected from the docking station.Software updates will be available to improve the supported features ofthe docking station. It is recommended to verify for Windows Updates ona regular basis in order to keep your device automatically updated withthe latest available driver.

By default, the Docking Station uses video output in Extended (dualview)mode.

Extended Mode (dualview)

Clone Mode

Extended (dualview) modeExtended (dualview) mode lets you split your display across multiplemonitors.

In this mode you can drag and drop windows from one screen to theother. This provides a number of advantages to increase productivity: Read email on one display; open attachments on the other.

Expand a spreadsheet across both monitors.

For graphics editing, increase your working area by putting all thepallets and toolbars on the second display. Keep your desktop on the external monitor and watch a DVD on your

notebook screen.

Clone modeClone mode clonescreates an identical displayfrom your notebookscreen to the external monitor. In Clone mode, the Docking Stationautomatically selects the settings (screen resolution, color quality, andrefresh rate) for the external monitor that will allow the best resolutionbased on your notebooks settings.

Adjusting Video SettingsFor either Clone mode or Extended (dualview) mode, you can adjust oneor more of the following video settings. In Clone mode, the settings applyto both your notebook monitor and the external monitor; in Extended

(dualview) mode, you can set separate settings for your notebookmonitor and the external monitor.

Resolution refers to the number of pixels displayed onscreenhorizontally and vertically. A higher resolution means that you can seemore of your image on the screen without scrolling or panning.

Color depth denes the number of different colors that can be shownon the screen at the same time. The greater the color depth, thebetter the picture quality.

Refresh rate (also called vertical frequency) measures the speed thatthe entire screen is rescanned. Higher frequencies reduce flicker,because they light the pixels more frequently, reducing the dimmingthat causes flicker.

Below is a list of refresh rates supported at various resolutions and colordepths for the Docking Station video output:

or Clonemode.

Click Extended (dualview) to configure the external monitor in Extendedmode with just one click. Default setting for the Extended mode positionsthe external monitor on the right side of the primary display.NOTE:The primary display corresponds to the display of your laptopunless it is configured differently through the Display Properties interfaceof the operating system.

When in Extended (dualview) mode you can select the position of theexternal monitor how you want to see it compared to the monitor of yourprimary display by clicking on the dualview Settings and select from thedisplayed menu.

In Clone mode the resolution of the external monitor can not be modifiedby the user but is automatically selec ted to better match the display

resolution of the laptop connected to the Docking Station. To change thescreen resolution of the laptop use the Display Properties interface of theoperating system. Click Advanced to activate this interface.When you want to switch from Clone mode to Extended (dualview) mode

you can either click on dualview Settings and select the position of theexternal monitor or just click on Ex tended (dualview): in this case the lastsettings of the Extended mode are retrieved.The change from Extended (dualview) mode to Clone mode and vice versatakes few seconds to be completed.3 To change the screen resolution of the external display select Screen

Resolutionand select one of the options listed by the application.For example, selecting 1280x1024 means that the video port willprovide video output of 1280 pixels by 1024 pixels. The resolutions

displayed in the user interface are a combination of those supportedby the docking station and those supported by the external monitorconnected to the docking station. If the external monitor does notprovide the information related to the supported resolutions thedocking station will adopt a default list of display resolutions.

4 To change the color quality of the external display when in Extended(dualview) mode, select Color Qualityand Medium (16 bit) or Highest(32 bit) color depth.

5 To rotate the view of the external screen select Screen Rotation andone of the possible options, Rotated Left, Rotated Right or Inverted.Select Normal to switch to the normal view.

Note:the refresh rate of the external monitor can only be modifiedthrough the standard interface of the operating system and not throughthe utility provided with the docking station.6 To turn off the video signal from the Docking Station, select Disable:

to turn the video signal back on, selec t either the Extended (dualview)or Clone.If you use multiple Docking Stations with a single notebookfor example,one at work and one at homethe video settings for each DockingStation are saved when you disconnect the notebook. So you can have

your Docking Station at work set up for Extended (dualview) mode whileyour Docking Station at home is configured for Clone mode, and thosesettings will be retained each time you use the Docking Station with yournotebook.If you share the Docking Station with different laptops, video settingspreference for each laptop will be maintained.

How Standby or Hibernate Mode Affects DevicesAttached to the Docking Station

External MonitorsWhen the Docking Station is connected to a notebook and an externalmonitor, if the notebook goes into Standby or Hibernate Mode, theexternal monitor display goes blank.Note: Depending on your notebook settings, the notebook might go intoStandby or Hibernate Mode when you close the lid.

When the notebook returns to an active state, the external monitordisplay keeps the same settings it had before the notebook went intoStandby or Hibernate Mode. However, if the external monitor was setfor Extended (dualview), windows that were previously on the externalmonitor will not move back to that secondary monitor. Also, if theexternal monitor is in Extended (dualview) and the notebook requiresa login after Standby or Hibernate Mode, , the loging screen appears onboth primary notebook monitor and on the external monitor.

Other DevicesIf another device is connected to a port on the Docking Station and thenotebook goes into Standby or Hibernate Mode, that device will notfunction. For example, if you are using the USB 2.0 port to connect anexternal USB device, the device will not be available until the notebookreturns to an active state.

Uninstalling the Video Software DriverOccasionally you may need to uninstall the video software driver from

your notebookfor example, if you want to update the current driverwith a new version released by Kensington. Select Start, All Programsandopen the Kensington Expansion dock folder. Select the function UninstallExpansion Dockto uninstall the Kensington Expansion dock.Alternatively you can use the following procedure:1 On your notebook, open the Control Paneland select Add or Remove

Programsfor Windows XP and Programs and Featuresfor WindowsVista.

2 Scroll the list of installed programs and select Kensington DisplayAdapter.

3 Click Removefor Windows XP or Uninstallfor Windows Vista.Note:We recommend that you restart your notebook after uninstallingthe software.

TroubleshootingIf your Docking Station does not operate as expected, first check theseitems to try and correct the problem. If the problem persists, pleasecontact Kensington Technical Support. Contact information is provided inTechnical Support, below.

General

The Docking Station Power Indicator is not on.

Check to be sure that the power adapter included with the DockingStation is plugged into the Docking Station and into a working electricaloutlet. Do not use any adapters other than the one supplied with theDocking Station.

My notebook will not connect to the Docking Station.Unplug the USB 2.0 cable from your notebook, wait for at least fiveseconds, and then reinsert the USB 2.0 cable.If the problem persists try connecting the USB 2.0 cable to a different USB2.0 port of your notebook.

Video Output

The display on my monitor is blank.

Make sure that the notebook connected to the Docking Station isrunning properly and is not in Standby or Hibernate Mode. When thenotebook is in Standby and Hibernate Mode, the monitor display isalways blank.

Make sure that the USB 2.0 cable is inserted correctly in your notebook,the cable is connected to the Docking Station, and the power adapter isconnected to the Docking Station and to a working power outlet. Makesure that the video cable is securely connected to the VGA video outputand is secured with the fixing screws on both sides.

Make sure that the display drivers are installed following theinstallation steps. The Kensington icon for the Notebook ExpansionDock should be visible in the system tray.

If the problem persists disconnect the dock from your notebook.Remove the power plug from the dock. Reconnect the power to thedock and the USB cable to the notebook.

When I am in Extended (dualview) mode and I am playing backsome video clips one video clip only can be seen.

When in Extended (dualview) mode only one video play back applicationcan be used at a time. If multiple video clips are played back some of themcan be blanked and only one video clip can be visible to the user. This isapplicable also for web pages with embedded video clips: web pages withembedded video clips are not allowed to be simultaneously present in theExtended (dualview) monitor. To view these web pages move one page inthe laptop screen and the other into the external monitor.

With Microsoft Vista I can not play back video clips when inExtended (dualview) mode

Under Microsoft Vista some video clips can not be supported in Extended(Dual View) mode: to play back these video clips it is recommended tomove the application to the monitor of your laptop. Support of videoplayback in Extended (dualview) mode is updated on a regular basis withnew drivers: check the Kensington web site for driver updates.

When I close the lid of my notebook, the display of the externalmonitor goes blank.

By default, most the notebooks go into Standby or Hibernate Mode whenthe lid is closed. To change these settings, do the following:1 Open the Control Paneland select Power Options.2 Do the following for your operating system:

For Windows VISTA, select Choose what closing the lid doeson theleft-hand side column. Select the When I close the lidpull-downmenu, and then select Do nothing.

For Windows XP, select theAdvancedtab. In the Power buttonssection, under the option When I close the lidof my portablenotebook, select Do nothing.

The display on my external monitor is blurred.

We recommend that you auto-adjust the external monitor once in a whileto realign its settings with the video output of the Docking Station. Thisaction should fix most of the issues related to the quality of the video onthe external monitor. Refer to your monitors user manual for instructionson how to do the auto-adjust procedure.

The external monitor connected through the Docking Station isflickering.

Flickering is usually associated with CRT monitors caused by a low refreshrate. Always try and use the maximum refresh rate available:

In Extended (dualview), increase the refresh rate of the externalmonitor.

In Clone mode, increase the refresh rate of your notebook screen,which will in turn increase the refresh rate of the ex ternal monitor.

For supported refresh rates, see Adjusting Video Settings, above.

Audio

I cannot hear anything through my notebook speakers.Some notebooks default to the USB audio when the Docking Station isconnected, disabling your notebooks built-in speakers. To enable thespeakers:1 Open the Control Paneland select Sounds and Audio Devices.2 Do the following for your operating system:

For Windows VISTA: Select the Playbacktab, and then select a devicethat is not USB Audio.

For Windows XP: Select the Audiotab, and then, under SoundPlayback, select a device that is not USB Audio.

Note:You must close the application currently using the audio device andrestart it to enable this change.

Ethernet Connection

My Ethernet connection is not working1 Be sure that the power adapter is plugged into the Expansion Dock

and into a working electrical outlet, that the correct drivers areinstalled, and that the network cable is connected to the ExpansionDocks Ethernet port.

2 On your notebook, open the Control Paneland select NetworkConnections. Roll the cursor over Local Area Connectionicons. Oneicon will display a name containing USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter.

3 Double-click on this icon. If the Connection Status showsConnected, the port is correctly configured and the Ethernetconnection should work properly.

4 If the status does not show Connected, text the cable by pluggingit into the network port on your notebook. If the status still does notindicate a connection, the problem is with the cable or the networkand is NOT related to the Expansion Dock. If the status showsConnected, there may be a problem with the Expansion Dock.

Network Connection

My network connection is not working.

In order to connect to some networks, you may have to know the NICcard address for the network card on the notebook. Follow these steps tolocate the address:

1 Make sure the Expansion Dock is connected to your notebook usingthe USB cable.

2 On your notebook, open the Control Paneland select NetworkConnections. The following icons are displayed: Local Area Connectionx(where x is some number, for example, 2, 3, 4, etc.) The third iconcorresponds to the network connection for the Expansion Dock.

3 Right-click on that icon and select Properties.

4 On the Generaltab, look for the adapter name containing USB to FastEthernet Adapter. Roll the cursor over the adapter name to display theNIC card address.

Power Adapter Specification

If needed the power adapter must be replaced with equivalent poweradapter 5V 2.5A (minimum) .

Important ! Vous devez installer le logiciel avant dutiliser votre

station daccueil avec des priphriques. Si une station daccueilet un pilote Kensington ont t installs prcdemment dansvotre systme, nous vous recommandons de dsinstaller lancienpilote avant dinstaller la station daccueil Kensington NotebookExpansion Dock with video.

Remarque : Consultez le site www.kensington.com pour savoir si desmises jour de pilote ou des amliorations sont disponibles.1 Insrez le CD dinstallation du logiciel dans le lecteur CD/DVD

2 Suivez les instructions saffichant lcran pour installer le logiciel.Remarque : Pendant linstallation des pilotes vido, il se peut que lcrande votre ordinateur portable devienne vide pendant quelques secondes.Ceci est normal pendant linstallation.3 Si vous y tes invit, redmarrez votre ordinateur portable.Remarque : LAssistant Nouveau matriel dtect apparat si vousconnectez la station daccueil sans installer le pilote au pralable.Nous vous recommandons dannuler linstallation au moyen de lAssistantNouveau matriel dtect et de suivre les instructions fournies dans ce chapitre.

Connexion de la station daccueil et de lordinateur portable1 Branchez lalimentation dans la prise ddie sur la station daccueil.

Branchez ensuite lalimentation dans une prise de courant.

Remarque :Laissez toujours la station daccueil connecte lalimentationfournie avec le produit. Les fonctionnalits vido ne sont PAS prises encharge si lalimentation nest pas connecte la station daccueil. Lesperformances des autres priphriques connects aux ports de la stationdaccueil risquent galement dtre limites si lalimentation nest pasbranche. Notez galement que votre station daccueil nalimente pasvotre ordinateur portable lorsquils sont connects ensemble.2 Branchez le cble USB 2.0 au connecteur USB sur votre station

daccueil.

3 Branchez le cble USB 2.0 un port USB sur votre ordinateur portable.Le systme identifiera le nouveau priphrique connect et leconfigurera automatiquement. Attendez la fin du processus pour quela sortie vido de la station daccueil soit active.

Utilisation de la station daccueilVous pouvez connecter des priphriques au por t appropri sur lastation daccueil lorsque votre ordinateur portable est en cours defonctionnement. Il faut quelques minutes pour que lordinateur portablereconnaisse le nouveau priphrique. Ceci est normal.

Ports USB 2.0Connectez un priphrique USB lun des quatre ports USB de la stationdaccueil. Chaque port possde un voyant lumineux qui affiche son tat :

Si aucun priphrique nest connect au port USB, le voyant est teint Si un priphrique est connect au port et que la connexion

fonctionne correctement, le voyant lumineux sallume en vert.Remarque : Si un priphrique USB est connect la station daccueilet quil ne fonctionne pas comme prvu, testez-le en le connectantdirectement lun des ports USB disponibles de votre ordinateur portable

Port vidoConnectez un cble VGA (vendu sparment) au port de sortie vido VGAsur la station daccueil et un cran externe. Vous pouvez connecter etdconnecter le cble VGA nimporte quel moment sans dconnecter lastation daccueil de votre ordinateur portable.Vous pouvez rgler les paramtres vido pour personnaliser votreutilisation de la station daccueil ; reportez-vous Rglage desparamtres vido, ci-dessous, pour de plus amples informations.

Remarque :Nous vous recommandons de rgler automatiquementlcran externe de temps en temps afin de raligner ses paramtresavec la sortie vido de la station daccueil. Reportez-vous au manuelde lutilisateur de votre cran pour des instructions sur la procdure derglage automatique.

Port EthernetLe port Ethernet est un adaptateur USB 2.0 vers Fast Ethernet. Branchezun cble rseau (vendu sparment) au port Ethernet pour un accsrseau hautes performances. Les voyants lumineux du port Ethernetfonctionnent ainsi : Le voyant gauche du port sallume lorsquil y a une connexion rseau. Le voyant droite du port sallume lorsquil y a une activit rseau.

Dconnexion de la station daccueilVous pouvez connecter et dconnecter la station daccueil pendant lefonctionnement de votre ordinateur portable.Si la station daccueil est en train de transfrer des donnes sur lune deses connexions USB 2.0, attendez la fin du transfert : pour la cl USB mmoire flash, il se peut que vous deviez utiliser la fonction de retraitscuris de Windows pour renregistrer les informations mises enmmoire cache dans la cl avant de dconnecter la station daccueil.Dbranchez le cble USB 2.0 du port USB 2.0 de votre ordinateur portable.Une fois que vous avez dbranch le cble USB 2.0, lcran externeconnect la station daccueil devient vide.Remarque :Si la sortie vido de la station daccueil est configure enmode tendu (dualview) (reportez-vous Modes vido, ci-dessous,les fentres ouvertes sur l cran externe se dplacent vers lcrande lordinateur portable principal. Lorsque la station daccueil estreconnecte au portable, la sortie vido est de nouveau configure pourle mode tendu (dualview) avec lcran externe. Nanmoins, les fentresqui se trouvaient prcdemment sur lcran externe ne se redplacerontpas vers cet cran secondaire.

Modes vidoLa sortie vido de la station daccueil fonctionne sous deux modes :

DupliquREMARQUES POUR LES UTILISATEURS de Windows VISTA : Lutilisationde la station daccueil sous les deux modes Dupliqu et tenduncessitera que le systme bascule sur le Windows Basic Theme pourlinterface utilisateur. Si le paramtre Vista Aero Glass est disponible survotre ordinateur portable, il basculera vers Windows Basic Theme lorsquela station sera connecte. Mode tendu (dualview)

Mode Dupliqu

Mode tendu (dualview)Le mode tendu (dualview) vous permet de rpartir votre affichage surplusieurs crans.

Il vous permet de faire glisser et dplacer des fentres dun cran lautre. Ceciprsente un grand nombre davantages pour amliorer votre productivit : Lecture du courrier lectronique sur un cran ; ouverture des pices

jointes sur lautre.

Agrandissement dun tableur sur deux crans. Pour ldition de graphiques, augmentation de la taille de votre zonede travail en plaant toutes les palettes et les barres doutils sur lesecond cran.

Prsence de votre bureau sur lcran externe et visualisation dun DVDsur lcran de votre ordinateur portable.

Mode DupliquLe mode Dupliqu duplique (cre un affichage identique) lcran de votreordinateur portable sur lcran externe. En mode Dupliqu, la stationdaccueil slectionne automatiquement les paramtres (rsolutiondcran, qualit couleur, et frquence de rafrachissement) pour l cranexterne qui permettront dutiliser la meilleure rsolution en fonction desparamtres de votre ordinateur portable.

Rglage des paramtres vidoPour les modes Dupliqu ou tendu (dualview), vous pouvez rgler un ouplusieurs des paramtres vido suivants. En mode Dupliqu, les paramtressappliquent la fois lcran de votre ordinateur portable et lcranexterne; en mode tendu (dualview), vous pouvez dfinir des paramtresdiffrents pour lcran de votre ordinateur portable et lcran externe.

La rsolution correspond au nombre de pixels afchs lcranhorizontalement et verticalement. Une rsolution suprieure signifieque vous affichez une plus grande partie de votre image lcran sansdfilement ni dplacement latral.

La profondeur dchantillonnage dnit le nombre de couleursdiffrentes pouvant tre af fiches lcran simultanment. Plusla profondeur dchantillonnage est importante, plus la qualit delimage est bonne.

La frquence de rafrachissement (galement appele frquenceverticale) mesure la vitesse de rebalayage de lcran entier. Des frquencessuprieures rduisent le scintillement car elles clairent les pixels de faon

plus frquente, rduisant la gradation du scintillement.Vous trouverez ci-dessous une liste des frquences de rafrachissementprises en charge diffrentes rsolutions et profondeursdchantillonnage pour la sortie vido de la station daccueil :

Cliquez sur tendu (dualview) pour configurer lcran externe en modetendu dun seul clic. Le paramtre par dfaut pour le mode tendupositionne lcran externe sur le ct droit de lcran principal.REMARQUE :Lcran principal correspond lcran de votre ordinateurportable sauf sil est configur diffremment via linterface daffichagedes proprits du systme dexploitation.En mode tendu (dualview), vous pouvez slectionner la position delcran externe, son mode daffichage par rapport votre cran principalen cliquant sur Paramtres Dualview et en effectuant votre slectiondans le menu affich.

En mode Dupliqu, lutilisateur ne peut pas modifier la rsolution delcran externe. Elle est slectionne automatiquement en fonction de larsolution dcran de lordinateur portable connect la station daccueil.Pour changer la rsolution dcran de l ordinateur portable, utilisezlinterface daffichage des proprits du systme dexploitation. Cliquezsur Avanc pour activer cette interface.

Lorsque vous souhaitez basculer du mode Dupliqu au mode Etendu(dualview) vous pouvez soit cliquer sur Paramtres dualview et slectionnerla position de lcran externe, soit cliquer sur tendu (dualview) : dans ce cas,les derniers paramtres du mode tendu sont rcuprs.Le basculement du mode tendu (dualview) au mode Dupliqu et vice-versa prend quelques secondes.3 Pour modifierla rsolution de lcrande laffichage externe,

slectionnez Rsolution dcran et choisissez lune des options

rpertories par lapplication. Par exemple, 1280 x 1024 signifieque le port vido fournira une sortie vido de 1280 pixels par 1024pixels. Les rsolutions affiches dans linterface utilisateur sont unecombinaison de celles prises en charge par la station daccueil et parlcran externe connect la station daccueil. Si lcran externe nefournit pas les informations lies aux rsolutions prises en charge, lastation daccueil adopte une liste de rsolutions dcran par dfaut.

4 Pour changer la qualit de la couleurde laffichage externe en modetendu (dualview), slectionnez Qualit couleur et la profondeurdchantillonnage Moyenne (16 bits) ou La plus leve (32 bits).

5 Pour faire pivoter la visualisation de lcran externe, slectionnezRotation dcran et lune des options possibles : Rotation gauche,Rotation droite ou Invers. Slectionnez Normal pour basculer envisualisation normale.

Remarque :vous ne pouvez modifier la frquence de rafrachissement

de lcran externe quau moyen de linterface standard du systmedexploitation et non laide de lutilitaire fourni avec la station daccueil.6 Pour dsactiver le signal vido de la station daccueil, slectionnez

Dsactiver : Pour activer de nouveau le signal vido, slectionnezsoit tendu (DualView) soit Dupliqu.

Si vous utilisez plusieurs stations daccueil avec un seul ordinateurportable (par exemple, une au bureau et une la maison), les paramtresvido pour chaque station daccueil sont enregistrs lorsque vousdconnectez lordinateur portable. Par consquent, vous pouvezconfigurer votre station daccueil au bureau en mode tendu (dualview) etcelle de la maison en mode Dupliqu, et ces paramtres seront conservschaque fois que vous utiliserez la station daccueil avec votre ordinateurportable.

Si vous partagez la station daccueil avec diffrents ordinateurs portablesles prfrences des paramtres vido pour chaque ordinateur portableseront conserves.

Comment les modes Veille ou Veille prolongeaffectent-ils les priphriques connects lastation daccueil?

Ecrans externesLorsque la station daccueil est connecte un ordinateur portable et un cran externe, si l ordinateur portable est en mode Veille ou Veilleprolonge, lcran externe devient vide.Remarque :Selon les paramtres de votre ordinateur portable, il risquedentrer en mode Veille ou Veille prolonge lorsque vous le fermez.Lorsque lordinateur portable revient dans un tat actif, lcran externeconserve les mmes paramtres quil avait avant dentrer en mode Veilleou Veille prolonge. Nanmoins, si lcran externe tait dfini en modetendu (dualview), les fentres qui taient auparavant sur lcran externe

ne se redplaceront pas vers cet cran secondaire. De mme, si lcranexterne est en mode tendu (dualview) et que lordinateur portablencessite une connexion aprs le mode Veille ou Veille prolonge, lcrande connexion apparaitra la fois sur lcran de lordinateur portableprincipal et lcran externe.

Autres priphriquesSi un autre priphrique est connect un port de la station daccueil et

que lordinateur portable entre en mode Veille ou Veille prolonge, cepriphrique ne fonctionnera pas. Par exemple, si vous utilisez le portUSB 2.0 pour connecter un priphrique USB externe, le priphrique nesera pas disponible tant que lordinateur portable ne revient pas dans untat actif.

Dsinstallation du pilote du logiciel vidoIl peut arriver que vous deviez dsinstaller le pilote du logiciel vido devotre ordinateur portable (par exemple, si vous souhaitez mettre jourle pilote actuel avec une nouvelle version distribue par Kensington).Slectionnez Dmarrer, Tous les programmes et Ouvrez le dossierKensington Expansion doc. Gnralits

Le voyant dalimentation de la station daccueil nest pas allum .

Vrifiez que lalimentation fournie avec la station daccueil soit branchedans cette dernire et dans une prise de courant. Utilisez uniquementlalimentation fournie avec la station daccueil.

Mon ordinateur portable ne se connecte pas la stationdaccueil.Dbranchez le cble USB 2.0 de votre ordinateur portable, attendez aumoins cinq secondes, puis rebranchez le cble USB 2.0.Si le problme persiste, essayez de connecter le cble USB 2.0 un autreport USB 2.0 de votre ordinateur portable.

Sortie vido

Lcran est vide.

Vriez que lordinateur portable connect la station daccueilfonctionne correctement et quil nest pas en mode Veille ou Veilleprolonge. Lorsque lordinateur portable est en mode Veille et Veilleprolonge, lcran externe est toujours vide.

Vriez que le cble USB 2.0 soit branch correctement dans votreordinateur portable, que le cble soit connect la station daccueil, etque lalimentation soit connecte la station daccueil et une prisede courant. Vrifiez que le cble vido soit connect correctement lasortie vido VGA et quil soit fix laide de vis des deux cts.

Vriez que les pilotes dafchage soient installs selon lesinstructions dinstallation. Licne Kensington pour la NotebookExpansion Dock doit tre visible dans la barre dtat systme.

Si le problme persiste, dconnectez la station de votre ordinateurportable. Dbranchez la prise de la station. Rebranchez la prise dans lastation et le cble USB sur lordinateur portable.

Lorsque je suis en mode tendu (dualview) et que je lis des clipsvido, je ne peux visualiser quun seul clip.

En mode tendu (dualview), une seule application de lecture vido peuttre utilise la fois. Si vous lisez plusieurs clips vido, certains dentreeux peuvent tre vides et lutilisateur ne visualisera quun seul clip vido.Ceci s applique galement aux pages Web comportant des clips vidoincorpors : les pages Web comportant des clips vido incorpors nepeuvent pas tre prsentes simultanment en mode tendu (dualview).

Pour visualiser ces pages Web, dplacez une page vers lcran delordinateur portable et lautre vers l cran externe.

Avec Microsoft Vista, je ne peux pas lire des clips vido en modetendu (dualview)

Sous Microsoft Vista, certains clips vido ne peuvent pas tre lus en modetendu (dual view) : pour lire ces clips vido, nous vous recommandonsde dplacer lapplication vers lcran de votre ordinateur portable. Laprise en charge de la lecture vido en mode tendu (dualview) est mise jour rgulirement avec de nouveaux pilotes : accdez au site Web deKensington pour vrifier si des mises jour de pilotes sont disponibles.

Lorsque je ferme mon ordinateur portable, lcran externedevient vide.

Par dfaut, la plupart des ordinateurs portables entrent en mode Veilleou Veille prolonge lorsque vous fermez lordinateur. Pour modifier cesparamtres, suivez les tapes ci-dessous :1 Ouvrez le Panneau de configuration et slectionnez Options

dalimentation.2 Suivez la procdure ci-dessous pour votre systme dexploitation :

Sous Windows VISTA, slectionnez dans la colonne de gauche Choosewhat closing the lid does (Indiquer ce qui se passe la fermeture delordinateur). Slectionnez le menu droulant When I close the lid(Lorsque je referme mon ordinateur portable) puis slectionnez Donothing (Ne rien faire).

Sous Windows XP, slectionnez longlet Avanc. Dans la section desboutons dalimentation, sous loption When I close the lid of myportable notebook (Lorsque je referme mon ordinateur portable),slectionnez Do nothing (Ne rien faire).

Lcran externe est flou.

Nous vous recommandons de rgler automatiquement lcran externe

de temps en temps afin de raligner ses paramtres avec la sortie vidode la station daccueil. Cette action devrait rsoudre la plupart desproblmes lis la qualit de la vido sur lcran externe. Reportez-vousau manuel de lutilisateur de votre cran pour obtenir des instructions surla procdure de rglage automatique.

Lcran externe connect au moyen de lExpansion Dock scintille.

Le scintillement est gnralement associ aux moniteurs CRT et provoqupar un taux de rafrachissement faible. Essayez toujours dutiliser le tauxde rafrachissement maximum disponible :

En mode tendu (dualview), augmentez le taux de rafrachissementde lcran externe.

En mode Dupliqu, augmentez le taux de rafrachissement delcran de votre ordinateur portable, ce qui augmentera le taux derafrachissement de lcran externe.

Pour connatre les taux de rafrachissement pris en charge, consultez la

section Rglage des paramtres vido ci-dessus.Audio

Aucun son ne sort des haut-parleurs de mon ordinateur portable.

Certains ordinateurs portables utilisent laudio USB par dfaut lorsque lastation daccueil est connecte, ce qui dsactive les haut-parleurs intgrsde votre ordinateur. Pour activer les haut-parleurs :1 Ouvrez le Panneau de configuration et slectionnez Sounds and Audio

Devices (Sons et priphriques audio).2 Suivez la procdure ci-dessous pour votre systme dexploitation :

Pour Windows VISTA : Slectionnez longlet Playback (Lecture), puisslectionnez un priphrique qui ne soit pas Audio USB.

Anpassen von VideoeinstellungenSowohl fr den Klonmodus als auch fr den erweiterten (dualview-)Modus knnen Sie eine oder mehrere der folgenden Videoeinstellungenanpassen. Im Klonmodus gelten die Einstellungen sowohl fr IhrenNotebook-Bildschirm als auch fr den externen Bildschirm; im erweiterten(dualview-)Modus knnen fr Ihren Notebook-Bildschirm und denexternen Bildschirm unterschiedliche Einstellungen angegeben werden.

Die Ausung bezieht sich auf die Anzahl von Pixeln, die vertikal undhorizontal auf dem Bildschirm angezeigt werden. Bei einer hherenAusung ist ohne Bildlauf oder Verschieben mehr von Ihrem Bild aufdem Bildschirm zu sehen.

Die Farbtiefe deniert die Anzahl unterschiedlicher Farben, diegleichzeitig auf dem Bildschirm angezeigt werden knnen. Jeintensiver die Farbtiefe, desto besser die Bildqualitt.

Die Aktualisierungsrate (auch Vertikalfrequenz genannt) misst dieGeschwindigkeit, mit der der gesamte Bildschirm neu aufgebaut wird.Bei hheren Frequenzen verringert sich das Flimmern, da die Pixelfter belichtet und so das Dimmen vermindert wird, was dazu fhrt,dass der Bildschirm flimmert.

Die Audiowiedergabe ber meine Notebook-Lautsprecher

funktioniert nicht.Bei einigen Notebooks wird standardmig das USB-Audio eingestellt,wenn die Dockingstation angeschlossen ist, wodurch die integriertenLautsprecher Ihres Notebooks deaktiviert werden. So aktivieren Sie dieLautsprecher:1 ffnen Sie die Systemsteuerung und whlen Sie die Option Sounds

und Audiogerte aus.2 Fhren Sie unter Ihrem Betriebssystem folgende Schritte durch: Unter Windows VISTA: Klicken Sie auf die Registerkarte fr die

Wiedergabe und whlen Sie daraufhin ein Gert ohne USB-Audiofunktion aus.

Meine Ethernet-Verbindung funktioniert nicht

1 Vergewissern Sie sich, dass das Netzteil mit dem Expansion Dock undeiner funktionstchtigen Steckdose verbunden ist, dass die richtigenTreiber installiert sind und dass das Netzwerkkabel mit dem Ethernet-Anschluss des Expansion Dock verbunden ist.

2 Rufen Sie auf Ihrem Notebook die Systemsteuerung auf und whlenSie dann die Option Netzwerkverbindungen. Bewegen Sie denMauszeiger ber die Symbole unter L AN-Verbindung. Bei einemSymbol wird ein Name mit USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter angezeigt.

3 Doppelklicken Sie auf dieses Symbol. Wenn der VerbindungsstatusVerbunden lautet, ist die Schnittstelle vorschriftsmig konfiguriertund die Ethernet-Verbindung sollte ordnungsgem funktionieren.

4 Wenn der Verbindungsstatus nicht Verbunden lautet, berprfenSie das Kabel, indem Sie es mit dem Netzwerkanschluss IhresNotebook verbinden. Wenn aus dem Status weiterhin keinebestehende Verbindung hervorgeht, ist das Problem auf das Kabeloder das Netzwerk zurckzufhren und NICHT auf das ExpansionDock. Wenn der Status Verbunden lautet, liegt mglicherweise einProblem mit dem Expansion Dock vor.

Um die Verbindung mit einigen Netzwerken zu ermglichen, muss Ihnendie Adresse der NIC (Network Interface Card)-Karte der Netzwerkkartedes Notebook bekannt sein. Gehen Sie wie folgt vor, um die Adresse zuermitteln:1 Vergewissern Sie sich, dass das Expansion Dock ber das USB-Kabel

mit Ihrem Notebook verbunden ist.2 Rufen Sie auf Ihrem Notebook die Systemsteuerung auf und whlen

Sie dann die Option Netzwerkverbindungen. Die folgendenSymbole werden angezeigt: LAN-Verbindung x (x steht hierfr freine bestimmte Zahl, z. B. 2, 3, 4 usw.). Das dritte Symbol steht fr dieNetzwerkverbindung des Expansion Dock.

Installatie van de softwareDe software-installatie-cd bevat verschillende stuurprogrammas voor software.De stuurprogrammas bestaan uit software die zorgt voor het functioneren van

de verschillende onderdelen van het dockingstation (geluid, video, enz.).

Belangrijk! U dient eerst de software te installeren voordatu uw dockingstation met randapparatuur kunt gebruiken.Als u al eerder een Kensington-dockingstation en daaraangerelateerd stuurprogramma op uw systeem had genstalleerd,is het beter om eerst het oude stuurprogramma te verwijderenvoordat u doorgaat met de installatie van het Kensington-notebookuitbreidingsdock met video.

Opmerking: vergeet niet om op www.kensington.com te kijken voorupdates of verbeteringen van stuurprogrammas.1 Plaats de software-installatie-cd in het cd-/dvd-station van uw

notebook. De installatietoepassing wordt automatisch gestart.

2 Volg de aanwijzingen op het scherm om de stuurprogrammasoftwarete installeren.

Opmerking:Tijdens de installatie van de videostuurprogrammas wordthet scherm van uw computer mogelijk enkele seconden blanco. Dit is eennormaal onderdeel van het installatieproces.3 Start uw notebook opnieuw wanneer u daartoe de aanwijzing krijgt.Opmerking:Als u het dockingstation aansluit zonder eerst hetstuurprogramma te installeren, verschijnt de Wizard Nieuwe hardwaregevonden. U wordt aangeraden om de installatie te annuleren via deWizard Nieuwe hardware gevonden en de aanwijzingen van dit hoofdstukop te volgen.

Aansluiten van uw dockingstation en notebook1 Sluit de voedingsadapter aan op de plug voor de voedingsadapter op

het dockingstation. Sluit de voedingsadapter vervolgens aan op eengoed functionerend stopcontact.

Opmerking:houd het dockingstation altijd aangesloten op devoedingsadapter die met het product is meegeleverd. Videomogelijkhedenworden NIET ondersteund zonder een op het dockingstation aangeslotenvoedingsadapter. De prestaties van andere, op de USB-poorten van hetdockingstation aangesloten apparatuur worden mogelijk ook beperktwanneer de voedingsadapter niet is aangesloten. Vergeet niet dat uwdockingstation geen voeding aan uw notebook geeft wanneer ze op elkaa

zijn aangesloten.2 Sluit de USB 2.0-kabel aan op de USB-upstream-connector op uwdockingstation.

3 Sluit de USB 2.0-kabel aan op een USB-poort op uw notebook. Hetsysteem herkent het nieuwe apparaat dat wordt aangesloten op uwsysteem, en congureert dit automatisch. Wacht totdat dit proces isvoltooid, om zo de video-uitgang van het dockingstation te activere
