6 | PREWASH LIQUID

In automatic carwashes we start with an alkaline pre-wash, followed by an acidified shampoo to neutralize the alkalinity of that pre-wash. By doing this we enhance the drying result.

• Use an alkaline cleaner to remove traffic film, insect residues, oil and greasy deposits. Most pre-wash products in car- and truckwashes are alkalines.

• An acidic cleaner is used to remove stubborn brake dust deposits on wheels, and mineral deposits such as limestone, etc.

• A pH-neutral product is used for applications by hand, like washing a car with bucket and sponge, or for delicate surfaces.

X-tra 4200 in action

X-tra 4200 is Kenotek’s pH neutral solution for wheel cleaning, remov-ing fall out and brake dust.

Besides the typical road soils and grime we can find also brake dust on most of the wheel. Brake dust is the dust which contains fine particles of iron.

Fall out comes mainly from railway lines and contamination can oc-cur if your car is parked around industrial met-al production facilities. Even when fall out is oxi-dized, X-tra 4200 is the safe solution to remove ferrous metals from the entire vehicle.

The functioning of the product is visible as it reacts with the iron par-ticles, and turns into a purple color.

14 | WAX & DRYING AGENT

Wax: A chemical designated to leave a thin protective layer on the cars’ bodywork. This to protect the car from external influences s.a.: UV-rays, road-salt, bird droppings, etc. Often waxes can also be used as a drying agent.

Drying agents:• First, and most commonly used is the beading-effect.

The water film breaks open in smaller droplets. These droplets are easily evacuated with the dryer of an au-tomatic roll-over or conveyor carwash. The used water quality should be preferably soft (max. 5°dH).

• The second option is the sheeting-effect. A drying agent using this effect doesn’t make small droplets. In this case the water film comes down slowly, and in one ‘sheet’, from the car. This dryers’ composition binds the miner-als in the water, and evacuates them, to have a spotless rinse.

A properly balanced Sinner circle provides the best washing results.

Chemicals, mechanical power, time and temperature represent the four principle factors that determine the success of a wash. These four factors, also known as the ‘Sinner circle’, are represented in the shape a circle.

The 4 factors influence each other and can change in size. When using machines for instance, the mechanical factor will be larger and the other three smaller. The results depend on these factors, also when cleaning vehicles:

• Chemicals: This refers to the concentration of cleaning agent used. All chemical elements such as active substances on the surface and pH values have an influence. The pH value says more about the concentration of the acidic, neutral or alkaline properties in a water solution. The pH value varies between 0.0 and 14.00, where 0.0 is the strongest acidic level represented, and 14.0 is the strongest alkaline value. Moreover, the pH value can only be measured in a water solution.

• Time: The time that a chemical (the cleaning agent) takes to work into the dirt.

• Temperature: The temperature level influences the cleaning process (e.g. hot or cold water).

• Mechanical power: In the form of a water jet from a high pressure cleaners and/or brushes.
