As usual, it has been a busy January getting the RSC organized for the upcoming year... starting on Janu-ary 2:
An emergency meeting to deal with Double Tree’s cut back’s that eliminated the DJ for Thursdays. Our board voted unanimously to use member volun-teers to DJ, re-viewable after the first quarter. Vol-unteers have stepped up and we are off to a good start.

We welcome all aspiring DJ”s to join our committee.
During Mid-Winters at OD on January 18, I was ac-companied by Steve Bateson and Shirley Gough to the ACSC Presidents meeting. Met a lot of people and visited with ol’ friends. Thanks Steve & Shirley.
Also while at Mid-Winters Kevin Byrnes volun-
teered to Co-Chair with me on the RSC Golf Outing. To date, we have signed the contract with Stone-henge Golf & CC for the June 1 event and he (with the help of Kendall & Stephanie Hockaday) has se-cured our 1st sponsor, Carrabba’s, who will provide the dinner following the tournament. He has also secured our 2nd sponsor, ARC3, which will almost cover our expenses. We are off to a good start but could still use some volunteers to help with details! Thank you Kevin.
My thanks also goes out to Joan Byrnes for volun-teering to Chair the Annual Party. With her past ex-perience, we are in good hands. We have now moved the Boogie on the James to the Double Tree! We are also taking reservations (with paid Tick-ets...for tables) for the August 14-15 party. See Joan for reservations.
Our Communications Committee has been busy as well. Pam Tinsley, Linda Walton, Beth Ager, and Lisa Cox have made communicating with RSC easi-er. Thanks ladies!
See you on the dance floor!

Promoting the Club
With the decline in circulation for printed
media (newspapers, magazines, etc), the Club must engage new
partners in promotion. Gratefully, members on Facebook have now
become part of the new partnership. For those of you on Face-
book you can help promote the club by:
• ·Engaging your network of friends by inviting them to follow the
Richmond Shag Club Page
• ·Sharing and Reposting Page articles
• ·Suggesting content to the administrators
• ·Notifying administrators well in advance of upcoming events
Remember, the new Facebook page is one of our best public forms
of communicating on the Internet. It is currently the most popular
medium that allows us to interface with the general public. So,
let’s extend our message of serious fun and fellowship, promote our
charity and promote the Carolina Shag in the Richmond community.

REMINDERS:
1. Richmond shag Club is a social club. It is exempt from Income tax only. (provided we raise money correctly). We pay all other taxes devised by our esteemed government. We are not a non-profit, we are not at not for profit. Profit never enters in the description of a social club in IRS lit-erature. 2. Please keep things simple as possible in the operations of the club. Being an all volunteer operation one has to utilize what talent ap-pears. There will always be different levels of knowledge, skill and time available amongst the volunteers. Remember, more people can paddle a canoe across a lake with calm wa-ters, than can navigate a stream with big rapids.

News from the front desk...…………………….
Big Thank you to the workers helping with the
front desk. Big thank you Parker and Bev Dillard
for past months and the month of February. All
of you are very much appreciated. March will be:
M K Taylor and Sandi Gibson: for April Dexter and
Charlotte Oliver on Tuesday's. Thank you for the
many, many times Sara Rainey and Karen Minor have
volunteered. If you have not worked the front
desk it is very easy and I would be happy to
train you. It is a very important job because you
are greeting each person coming into the lounge.
And you learn names of new members.
The sign up sheet is in the magazine rack, top
tray. Include your phone number in case I need to
call you
See ya at the front desk...……………Shirley

Barbara White—-Social Committee Thank you to everyone who came out to support our Valentine Party on Tuesday night! It was a fun evening with lots of dancing and great music by our DJ Gary Harman. Congratulations to Kathy and Jim for winning the beautiful vase of roses! Also congrats go out to Sherry and Parker for each win-ning a box of Valentine Candy, Allen and Linda for winning the basket of goodies and to our bartend-er, Amber for winning the mixed flower arrangement. Thanks to the set up crew, Tammy Reams, Judy Chiles, Joan Byrnes, and Lyn Slaughter. A special shout out to Beth Ager for getting the information out so quickly too!
Our next event will be the Wearin' of the Green St. Patricks Day Party on Tuesday, March 17. Be sure to wear your favorite lucky charm to win the Luck of the Irish raffle for a basket full of lottery tickets and other magical things! Look for more information in the coming months for a Jack and Jill Contest. We will have judges for this competi-tion with prize money for four places. For those that are not familiar with this type of event, it involves pulling a name from the hat on the night of the competition for your dance partner. We would like to get at least 8-10 couples participating so get your dance time in with everyone between now and then! It should be a fun and exciting event. You may notice events taking place on Thursday nights at the club. Sara Raney and Judy Chiles will be putting to-gether one event per month on a Thursday to encourage folks to come out and dance! Please support them in their efforts! Until next time.......keep smiling and keep dancing!
