Doug Beach formed the publishing com-pany bearing his name in 1975. As Directorof Jazz Studies for over 35 years, hisElmhurst College (IL) Jazz Band regularlyappears with such greats as Clark Terry,Diane Schuur, Nicholas Payton, Pete

Christlieb, Lee Konitz, Louie Bellson, and Bobby Shew.

Ted Blumenthalstudied with Henry Smithand Charles Gusikoff of the Philadelphia(PA) Orchestra. After a stint in the U.S.

Army Field Band, he went on the road play-ing lead with various bands including theBuddy Morrow Orchestra, the Glenn Miller

Orchestra, Woody Herman, Jimmy Dorsey, Billy Mayand others.

Art Dedrick began his career as trombon-ist and arranger with some of the greatest

big bands of the 1940's, including those ofRed Norvo, Joe Marsala, Claude Thornhill,and Vaughn Monroe. Drawing from his ex-tensive writing and playing experience, in

1954 he started his own publishing company, KendorMusic, and issued the first-ever big band charts forschool groups.

Prior to relocating to the San Francisco BayArea, Lars Halle served on the faculty atthe University Of The Arts in Philadelphia(PA), where he also led the Lars Halle JazzOrchestra for 11 years. Originally from

Scandinavia, his music has been played byBobby Shew, Rob McConnell, Jon Faddis, Tim Warfield,Kurt Elling, and Lasse Lindgren.

Matt Harris is in great demand as a key-boardist, jazz writer and clinician. Aftercompleting his undergraduate degree atthe University of Miami (FL), and his mas-ters degree at the Eastman School ofMusic (NY), he toured with Maynard Fergu-

son and Buddy Rich. Today Matt serves as Director ofJazz Studies at California State University-Northridge.

Jeff Jarvis, Director of Jazz Studies at Cal-ifornia State University Long Beach, haswritten for and/or performed with LouRawls, Doc Severinsen, Joe Williams,Louie Bellson and more. He has recordedsix albums as a solo artist (trumpet) and

serves as Kendor's jazz editor.

A trumpet and keyboard player, MarkLathan is a native of the Chicago (IL) area.Lathan holds a bachelors degree in Per-formance from Northern Illinois Universityand a Ph.D. from University of California,Los Angeles (UCLA). He is presently assis-

tant professor of Music and Humanities at WaubonseeCommunity College in suburban Chicago.

Andrew Neu is a saxophonist/woodwind player, composer, arranger and

recording artist. He regularly tours withBobby Caldwell. A graduate of TempleUniversity, he has also performed with theCurtis Institute of Music Orchestra, theBrian Pastor Band, and the Dave Stahl

Band.

Lennie Niehaus, alto soloist and arrangerfor the Stan Kenton Orchestra, hasrecorded albums of his own with Mel Lewis,Shelly Manne, Jimmy Giuffre, HamptonHawes, and more. He also composed thefilm scores for Clint Eastwood's Pale

Rider, Unforgiven, True Crime, Absolute Power,and many more.

With degrees from Syracuse University andIthaca College, Howard J. Rowe, Jr.taught instrumental music at all levels inthe Rush-Henrietta school district for 32years.

Les Sabina is Professor of Musicat St. Bonaventure University inupstate New York. As a saxophonist, he

has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, JoeWilliams, Della Reese, and others.
