Camps fill fast! Be sure to
reserve your child’s spot!
How to Register:
1. Choose a camp based on the age of your child or the grade that your child will be entering in the 2016-2017 school year.
2. Fill out and return the required forms at least 30 days prior to the first day of camp. Forms are attached to the back of this booklet.
3. Your child’s spot will not be reserved until registration, health forms and payment are received.

Ages 4–6
Sense of Adventure:
Come on out and explore all that Hoover Forest
Preserve has to offer in this hands-on nature camp. We
will focus on our senses to explore the natural world.
Time spent at camp will include science activities,
nature-inspired art, unstructured play, live animal
encounters, nature hiking and more!

Ages 7-9
Jr. Naturalist:
Looking for something fun to do over your Spring
break? Come spend time outside and learn the basics
of bird watching, track hunting, nature
journaling, plant and tree identification, hiking and
more!
Dates: March 21-23 1-3:30 pm
Price: $60
Ages 1-3
This three-day program provides a first nature camp experience for the very young. Class time will
include a story, song, discovery time, and nature exploration. A caregiver must stay for the class.

Waking up from Winter Summer Camps 2016

Magic School Bus: Half and *Full Day *
Ms. Frizzle is known for taking her students on amazing field trips with science and fun. Come join us for a week of adventure as we learn the buzz about bees, the antics about ants and much more as we
explore everything from the trees to the soil. Half Day Session I: June 13-17

Wild Kratts: Half Day
Spend the week exploring the animal kingdom. Based on the popular PBS TV show "Wild Kratts" spend each
day uncovering the amazing creature powers of some of your favorite animals. Session I: July 11-15 Session II: August 1-5

Sunset Adventures: Half Day
What happens when the woods get ready for night? We
will use our night senses, learn about nocturnal
animals, explore stars and end the week with a
campfire, songs and s’mores.

Ages 4–Entering Kindergarten
Animal Senses: Half Day Explore your five senses as we learn how animals survive in the wild using their senses. Each day will
focus on a different sense and how certain animals use their senses. Hikes, songs, stories, games, crafts, and

Wet, Wetter, Wettest: Half Day
Find out what kind of plants and animals live in wetlands, rivers, ponds, and lakes. Hikes, songs,

Summer Camps 2016
Entering Grades 3 and 4 Walk in the Wild: *Full Day *
In this camp we will do hands-on activities to explore nature
and learn camping and survival skills. While hiking we will
learn animal tracking, plant and animal identification, and
much more. This camp will travel to different forest
preserves in Kendall County.

Mad Science: Half Day
Do you wonder how and why things happen? How do frogs
survive through the winter? Why do leaves change color?
What makes fireflies and glow worms glow in the dark? We
will answer all your science questions by doing experiments
throughout the week using the scientific method.

HydroRock! Half Day
Become an expert about the streams in your own backyard as you learn about stream monitoring, the water
cycle, stream invaders and so much more. Hands-on explorations, creek walks, activities, and games are all fun
ways we will find out more about the water around us. Session I: June 20-24 Session II: August 1-5

Entering Grades 5 and 6 Adventure Road Full Day
The Fox Valley region is filled with amazing parks and nature centers. This camp will take a field trip each day to discover the many wonders of the area. Come ready
to explore! Session I: June 13-17 Session II: August 1-5

Follow the Fox Overnight
This camp combines canoeing and an overnight for an
exciting outdoor adventure! On Monday, we will learn
about water safety and practice our canoeing
techniques on Loon Lake at Silver Springs State Park.
We will return to Hoover for a campfire and fun evening
of activities. The next morning we will use what we
learned on Monday and canoe the Fox River.
Experienced instructors will lead students in both
canoeing and the overnight stay.

Summer Camps 2016
Entering Grades 7-9 Nature Quest Full Day/Overnight
We’ve teamed up with the Kendall County Outdoor
Education Center to offer a jam-packed schedule of fun
including a bike ride, canoe trip, an overnight campout,
and many other awesome outdoor adventures.

Counselor in Training Program (CIT)
Do you love being outside and working with children?
Join us this summer and become a Summer Camp
assistant! CIT’s assist with camps for kindergarten– 4th
grade campers. This program will help teens develop
leadership skills and build a solid foundation for future
employment.

Equestrian Camps Come and learn the basic of horse care and horse handling
through our summer day camps at the Ellis House and Equestrian Center. Pony rides, games, and crafts will be provided each day. Camps meet at the Ellis house and Equestrian Center, 13986 McKanna Road, Minooka.
Pony 1-Day Camp for Parents and Tots
Ages 3-5
Our parent-tot camp is a two hour camp for children. Spend time with your child learning about horses through grooming,
crafts, games, and pony rides. Time: 9 am-11 am Session I: June 6 Session II: June 9
Session III: June 17 Session IV: July 8 Session V: July 29
Price: $40 in county/ $45 out of county
Pony 1-Day Camp
Ages 6-8 and Ages 9-13
This camp is a great way for younger children to learn about and play with the horses. Children are introduced to
grooming, feeding, and handling horses through hands-on activities. Games such as pony leading and relay races offer
a fun way to test their skills. Kids also get a chance to let their artistic side shine through with crafts. Children also learn about conservation on a horse themed nature tour.
Ages 6-8 Time: 9 am-1 pm Session I: June 7
Session II: June 28 Ages 9-13
Time: 9 am– 1 pm Session I:June 29

Equestrian Camps
Registration, Cancellation, and Refund Policies
Registration, health forms, and payment are required at time of registration and/or 30
days prior to the first day of your camp. Your child will not be registered until registration,
health forms, and payment are received. Registration opens on January 25, 2016.
To cancel a camp registration and receive a full refund, we must receive the cancellation notice
30 days prior to the first day of the camp. Cancellations made within 30 days of the first
day of camp will receive a 50% refund.

Payments can be made with check,
credit card (2.5% processing fee applied), or cash (in person drop off only).
A welcome letter will be sent at least two
weeks prior to camp with more complete details about the camp you are registered for.
Summer Camps 2016 Equestrian Camps
Pony 3-Day Camp
Our three-day camp offers children a thorough introduction into the world of horses. Kids get to
experience a variety of activities involved in the daily care and management of horses. Kids learn about and assist with feeding, grooming, handling, saddling and
bridling horses. Each day activities include horse games, crafts to bring home and pony rides.
Ages 6-8
Time: 9-1 pm Session I: June 21-23 Session II: July 12-14 Session III: August 2-4
