KEMCA UK 2016 Charities Report - Dr Hafeez ur Rehman, Chair

Kemca charities has been active over the last few years in developing projects and gaining useful experience in managing charity activities with local partners. Due to the unfortunate floods in Pakistan in 2010, KEMCA charities rose to the occasion and started various projects.

Emergency Food and Essential Goods ReliefAfter Dr Hafeez did a fact finding exercise, two truckloads of goods consisting of essential food and other relief items were sent to the affected areas in Bahawalpur and Mardan in collaboration with NSMEHC and Dr Khalida Tareen. This effort was much appreciated by the effected and KEMCA was one of the first few organisations to reach these people in South Punjab and Pakhtoonkha.

1. Dadu Outreach Medical Camps Dr Adeel iqbal formed a team of health professionals and flew to Dadu to start direct medical relief work. Thousands of patients were seen and social and housing support was extended.

2. Reconstruction Project

Dr Iqbal from Yorkshire led this project in which houses were reconstructed in partnership with local organisations. The project was mainly in Sind in the flood devastated areas.

3. Flood Relief for Families

Dr Eaisha from KEMCA families proposed a project “Flood Relief for Families” to

support 100 families in South Punjab over a six month period and our KEMCA

readily joined this project as a major partner. The project commenced in August

2010. Dr Tufail visited the project soon afterwards and KEMCA Secretary visited the

project in its fourth month in December 2010.

This project would not have been possible

without the dedication and commitment of the

local partners, the staff of the Special Education

and Training Centre in Lahore who selflessly

gave their time and managed the local co-

ordination.

4. Charity Commission:

KEMCA charity has managed to claim approx £8000 from HMRC in 2014 in terms of

Gift aid. It will help us to deliver some of the projects

5. 100 Houses Solar Electrification in Sind

KEMCA took over to provide solar lights to 100 houses in three villages (Manojo

Area) in Interior Sind. These villages were destroyed in Floods and their plight

came to the attention of people quite late. technical work

was done by Pakistanis.

6. Micro Credits to the poor in Rajanpur, Punjab

KEMCA in partnership with Akhuwat took on to extend micro credits to a large

number of the poor and those who wish to rise to their potential in the flood effected

District of Rajanpur in South Punjab. The idea is that an identified number people will

be supported and extended loans to rebuild their lives. Once the debt is recovered it

will be given to others and the Sadqa Jaria would continue.

7. TV Monitors to promote Health Awaareness and Hepatitis C Awareness campaign:

Abid Sahib has been leading on this project. He organised a charity event in Dec

2013 to collect money for providing Two TV monitors in public areas in KEMU to

promote health awareness. He also funded Hepatitis C awareness campaign in

collaboration with KEMCANA.

8. Class of 1988 built Toilets for Mayo Hospital main out patients.

9. Mayo Oncology Ward Project: 2015-2016 Dr Izhar Ul Haq Hashmi graduate of 1988 ( current Trustee of Akhuwat )

arranged meeting with Dr Khokar head of Oncology department Mayo

Hospital and myself being chair of KEMCA UK and requested help to

refurbish Oncology Department on my visit in 2015. I was appalled to see the

condition of wards and outpatient. We agreed to generate funds to help with.

Later on Dr Muhammad Tufail, Dr Anjum Bashir and Usman Bashir kindly

visited the ward to move the project forward.

1. Outpatient Toilets – Pledged by KEMCA UK (approx. Rs 560000) work to

start with next two weeks in collaboration with Akhuwat. An MOU was

signed by chair of KEMCA UK with Akhuwat Pakistan. Dr Anjum Bashir

will oversee the project on behalf of KEMCA UK.

8. KEMCA UK has arranged Charity Walk and Cricket Match on Sunday 18 th

Sept to raise Money for our Charity Projects. Donate generously to help

rebuild our history.
