PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Sunrise Senior Living 11/2011 – 12/2015Senior Database/ETL Architect

Designed Data Warehouse and full system architectures in both Oracle and SQLServer in PL/SQL and Transact SQL. Designed/Developed/maintained the main sales tracking, Labor, CRM, BPR systems based on object-oriented/Star/ Relational designs. The major focus in all designs was a low maintenance philosophy to reduce overhead and cost. This approach reduced the code needed to implement systems, and resulted in very low maintenance architectures. Also, responsible for all nightly processing for DW applications, and work on a variety of technical initiatives involving overall system architecture and integrating new and legacy systems.

National Education Association 3/2009 – 9/2011Consultant Database Architect/ETL Design

Replaced NEAs financial and legal tracking systems. Designed table, data model utilizing SQL/PL/SQL. The new design incorporated Oracle text management to allow complex retrieval of text information. The new system improved performance, and allowed improved reporting flexibility. Also, designed a new security architecture for Cognos to use Oracle Virtual Private database (VPD) or fine grained security. Prior security used a series of complex queries that was slowing user access to all systems. Replaced all security with VPD at the database level, which improved performance considerably.

American Operation Corporation 8/2006 – 2/2009DBA/Database Architect/Lead

Responsible for database design, architectural layout, DataWarehouse design, application developer support, Data Management design, and overall hardware integration design for databases into an IT environment. Developed PL/SQL programs for transformation (ETL) of data to a Datawarehouse and directed others in implementation of those designs. Primary focus is the design of large-scale web/oracle based application systems for the TSA in which we manage Terabytes of data. Much of my focus was on performance enhancements, tuning, training, and employing new architectures to improve deliverables. Implemented a state-of-the-art reporting system in the form of a self-managing DataMart that provides summarization, and integration into all calendars in the Data Warehouse within minutes of data delivery. Handled day-to-day application DBA activities in a development environment.

The Nutty Bavarian 12/2002 – 10/2005

Installed and configured full-text and imaging applications using Oracle TextServer and imaging tools. Trained users on methodologies to achieve maximum performance in applications and general queries. Oversaw large document management projects. Network Manager: Responsible for the design and conversion of IBM/VM legacy systems to a SUN/Solaris WAN network. Conversion activities consisted of reviewing requirements and developing a plan that addressed issues such as backups, disaster recovery, network capacity/performance/availability planning, expandability, remote connectivity, and user integration. Evaluated hardware, software, and configuration alternatives; engineered network architecture to eliminate I/O bottlenecks; installed PPP connection to implement a distributed database and X.25 connection for international dial-in capability. Designed software configuration at two sites to allow rapid transition from mainframe to a local Oracle 7.x/Solaris 2.4 environments. Designed and installed
