Welcome to Keith Construction

Keith Dahlen Construction has been family owned and operated for over 20 years in Vernon, BC. Keith has

been in the business of construction for over 50 years starting in Saskatchewan as journeyman carpenter and building inspector. He then moved to Alberta where he built and renovated many homes and acted as president of the Home Builders’ Association in Edmonton. Keith and his wife Jean moved to Vernon in 1985 for a different life style, followed by Ken and his wife Karen in 1994 to continue the family tradition.

Keith’s creativity, passion and desire to “work with wood” keeps him busy even today. He “retired” at the age of 65 and now, nearly 10 years later is still involved with the business building intricate timber stairs and trusses. He is involved with teaching some of our younger staff the tricks of the trade and showing them his remarkable work ethic.

Ken runs the business now and has taken over where his father left off. His enthusiasm for the environment and the impact that building has on our society has redirected his practices and knowledge to include Built Green and R2000. He believes that we need to consider the environ-ment and reduce our carbon footprint by decreasing our emissions.

The Chinese have used real estate holdings for wealth creation for 2000 years. All huge

fortunes were either started or extended with real estate. In North America, home ownership has been the single largest factor in accumulation of wealth. Put into perspective, if you place a good portion of your assets into real estate today, you won’t have to worry about tomorrow. In the last 3 decades, stock markets have surged up and down. Through all of this, the average folk watched their savings get chewed away by insidious inflation. one asset that has weathered the changes is real estate!

one thing is for certain – over the years, the base values of real estate have been stead- ily increasing. for example, in Vancouver in 1960, the average home sold for $13,105. In 1988 it was up to $310,000 - up almost 2300% and then in 2008 the average home sold for $895,000, a return of almost 6830%. In the okanagan, waterfront real estate has also shown a dramatic increase. In 1995, the average price of a lakefront property was $293,400 and then in 1998 it was up 14% to $334,500. In December 2008, the average waterfront property sold for $1,403,450 – a dramatic increase of almost 479%.

our carbon footprint by having 2 Honda Civic hybrids in our fleet of vehicles. We are continually upgrading our knowledge and skills on the leading edge of Built Green energy efficient building. We are promoting “Green” to our customers as well, in hopes of making our world a better place for the next generations! Keith Construction has worked for many years with a professional and experienced painting con-tractor that uses environmentally sensitive paints. These paints comply with the new standards of environmentally friendly coatings including low emission and VoC free paint material that is “Green Seal Certified”. Volatile organic Compounds, or “VOC”, evapo-rate into the air, giving off green-house gases including methane, benzene and formaldehyde. Exposure to these gases can be dangerous for people. “Green Seal Certified” paint products must perform at least as well as other paint products in their class. our concept at Keith Construc-tion is to design and construct buildings that meet the “Green Building” standard with an aim to improve occupant well-being and environmental performance of buildings while maintaining cost efficiency through use of new and innovative standards in construction practices. Since greenhouse gases are the lead-ing cause of global warming, we feel that by using low emission or VoC free paint material, we are contributing to “going green”.
