Masahiro Ishijima Masahiro Ishijima graduated from Toho Gakuen College Music Department. He studied composition under Akira Miyoshi at the College, and was strongly influenced by Yoshio Hachimura. He has composed such pieces for marimba as 《PROCESSION for two marimbas》, 《Exhale for marimba solo》, 《MIRROR for marimba solo》 and so on. His works have been performed at Internationale Ferienkurse fur Neue Musik, Darmstadt (Germany), Montreuil Music Festival (France), Nong Project (Korea), and in major cities as New York, Paris, and Moscow. He currently teaches at Toho Gakuen College Music Department as a professor. Keiko Abe Keiko Abe is a professor emeritus at Toho Gakuen School of Music (Toho Gakuen College Music Department) She is an internationally active marimbist, performing in over 60 countries around the world. She has taught more than 110 music universities and institutioins, and participated in more than 50 music festivals.Seeking the original pieces for marimba, she has performed more than 270 pieces, including her own compositions and the commissioned and premiered ones. Those are played by marimbists all over the world.She has been awarded a special prize 6 times at the Cultural Festival by Agency for Cultural Affairs. In 1993, she was awarded Hall of Fame by Percussive Arts Society in the USA. Jean Geoffroy As a multi percussionist, he is a regular guest soloist at the most prestigious festivals all over the world. Especially in contemporary music, he has made great efforts in performing premiere with composers. For marimba, he has released solo albums such as "Bach Cello suite," arranged by himself. Solo timpanist with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris from 1985 to 2000. He was a professor at Conservatoire de Musique de Geneve from 1999 to 2006. He has taught as a professor at Conservatoire national superior masque et dense de Lyon since 1999, and also at Conservatoire national superieur de musique de Paris since 2005. ● The lessons will principally cover the following subjects:

Keiko Abe (Faculty): Self compositions and works by other fellow countrymenDave Samuels (Faculty): Self compositions, improvisations and vibraphone worksJean Geoffroy (Faculty): Works from Europe and America, works by Bach

● Three 40-minute solo lessons (where you can choose your faculty, however

this may change if there are a large number of applicants), and there may

be one set of comments and special sessions available for each student

depending on auditions. Auditors are free to listen, and may participate in

question and answer sessions.

● A final concert will be held on August 4th at Yamaha Hall. Auditions for

performers will be held on August 3rd. You may perform any pieces that

you like (within 10 minutes in length, but not including any pieces studied

during the lessons), and the performers may also take part in the judging.

● Participants: From High School students aiming to become specialized performers through to professionals * Students may apply as a duo. (Separate intake for students currently enrolled at Toho Gakuen School of Music.)

● Auditors: Elementary, Middle and High School students, University students and general students* Applicants can be of any nationality. _ Students may apply as a duo.

● 100 minute special lecture "The future of mariimba" Keiko Abe, Jean Geoffroy and Masahiro Ishijima(composor) give special lecture about contemporary music and set piece in marimba competition etc. Participants and Auditors are free to listen.
