Keeping In Touch October 2019 Volume 255 Issue 11
The Official Newsletter of the Second Congregational Church of Stafford
2 Timothy 4:3 Proclaim the message; be persistent
whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; con-
vince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience
in teaching.
More than anything, this reading from 2 Timothy
articulates both the nature of, and the importance of
preaching. But, even more, it speaks of the entire scope
of being a pastor.
I remember discussing this passage during my Min-
istry studies and remarking about how these words
from Paul to Timothy speak across the ages to all who
serve as pastors, giving a solid foundation for building
a ministry.
I will continue to follow this SOP for as long as I
serve at West Stafford. I hope it will be many years!

Thank you to everyone who partici-
pated! Thanks to the bakers of cookies
and brownies, to the sewers, to every-
one that wore a colonial outfit, thanks
to everyone that marched or rode in the
parade. Thanks to everyone who
handed out candy, to everyone that
helped decorate the float, thanks to
everyone that helped sell items at the
"after party". I believe just about eve-
ryone was involved in some way. It
was such a fun day. A big thanks to
Stephen for getting the trailer so we
could have a float. And a big thank
you to Bill for helping me get the
straw, pumpkins, and mums for deco-
rations. It was great letting the town
know we are alive and well here at
West Stafford Church. And the cherry
on the top is the fact that we won a
first place medal for the Heritage Cate-
gory! A wonderful day!

Two buddies Chris and John were two of the big-
gest baseball fans in America. For their entire adult
lives, Chris and John discussed baseball history in the
winter and they pored over every box score during the
season.
They went to 60 games a year. They even agreed
that whoever died first would try to come back and
tell the other if there was baseball in heaven.
One summer night, Chris passed away in his sleep
after watching the Yankee victory earlier in the eve-
ning. He died happy. A few nights later, his buddy
John awoke to the sound of Chris's voice from be-
yond. "Chris is that you?" John asked. "Of course it's
me," Chris replied.
"This is unbelievable!" John exclaimed. "So tell
me, is there baseball in heaven?"
"Well I have some good news and some bad news
for you. Which do you want to hear first?"
"Tell me the good news first."
"Well, the good news is that, yes, there is baseball
in heaven, John."
"Oh, that is wonderful! So what could possibly be
the bad news?"
"You're pitching tomorrow night."

Not much to report on our end, which generally
means good things! Emery and Webb insurance
stopped by and said everything looks good in and out
of the church. The only recommendation was to add
two smoke alarms, one in the kitchen and one at the
bottom of the stairs by the front door in the church.
Other than that, our coverage looks great. We decided
to hold off on the awning until next Spring for that
Flea Market. Our fire extinguishers, and boilers have
been checked and serviced so the church is looking
great. The last thing for this month will be Work Day!
I have that scheduled Saturday October 26th from 9-1.
I will have sign-up sheets this Sunday in Fellowship
Hall. Happy October!

The fall flea market was a huge success, once
again, thanks to all who helped out. We raised $976.
The Little Shop did alot of business during the two
day event and brought in $116. It's a team effort and
although it's hard work at times, I can't say how much
I appreciate all the help I get from you folks. Looking
forward to 2020 and another year of fund raising
events. Linda Sprague, Flea Market Coordinator

Here's an FYI for all of us to remember. When I
worked at the real estate office, we needed to get the
plumber to come to unclog the sink drain in our kitch-
enette. I was surprised to hear what had caused the
issue-coffee. It was a coffee clog caused by folks
dumping the remains in their coffee cups down the
drain but not taking a minute to run the water allowing
the coffee to run down the pipe. So, let's not have that
happen at our facility-please, rinse the sink after you
dump your coffee remains down the
drain. Thanks for listening. Linda Sprague
