Vision & Mission

Brooklyn City College is staying in tune with the rapidly changing needs of society in terms of education and training. Because of this we are offering accredited and regis-tered National Diploma and Certificate qualifications which enable graduates to be absorbed by the relevant industry.

The National Certificate (Vocational) is aimed at students at NQF level 2 in Further Education and Training (FET) public and private colleges, as well as other institutions offering FET vocational programmes.

The National Certificate (Vocational) at level 2 of the NQF enables students to acquire the necessary knowledge, practical skills, applied competence and understanding required for employment at an elementary level of a particular occupation or trade.

NC (V) programmes are offered on levels 2, 3 and 4 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) in Business Studies, Engineering Studies, Creative and Social Services as well as Information and Communication Technology. The qualification is a yearlong course and learners are issued with a certificate upon successfully completion of each level of study i.e. level 2, level 3 and level 4.

The National Certificate (Vocational) will offer programmes in the form of subjects that will consist of academic knowledge and theory integrated with the practical skills and values specific to each vocational area. The practical component can be offered in either a real workplace environment or a simulated one and will give learners a feel of the world of work outside during their period of study.

Brooklyn City College is proud to announce the introduction of NATED Courses. The qualifications are N1 - N6 in the stream of Engineering and N4 - N6 in the stream of Business/Management Programmes.

Engineering Programmes (N1 - N6) - Each level has a period of 6 months. After successful completion of each level, the learner is awarded a certificate. These Qualifications have been developed as a coherent set of "generic" compe-tences in Accounting so that they apply to a wide range of different types of Account-ing jobs in a variety of organisations. Transferable core competences for broadly defined areas of Accounting activity have been identified and included in these Qualifications as they apply to all employees involved in an Accounting role in any organisation. Some of the individual competencies, particularly those in large organ-isations relating to a specific job in the field have also been included in these Qualifi-cations, where these might have a broader applicability for learners.

Pre-Arrival in South Africa

Depending on your country of origin, you may or may not require a visa or entry certificate to enter The Republic of South Africa. Please check with the South African High Commission or Embassy in your home country if you may require a visa before you start making travel arrangements. Other surrounding and bordering nationals who may not require a visa or entry certificate may find it useful to acquire a visa since it will ease their entry into South Africa upon arrival. Most airlines will also need to see that you have acceptable immigration documents as they will be heavily fined for carrying passengers without the right and permits to enter the country. To obtain a student’s visa, you will be required to produce the following documents to the Entry Clearance Offer at the South African High Commission in your home country (this may vary from country-to-country): • A valid passport • Evidence of enrolment unto a full-time course or programme of study consisting a minimum of 15 hours day time study per week. • Evidence that you possess the minimum academic qualifications for your chosen course of study. • Evidence of your ability to meet the cost of your tuition and living expenses in South Africa for the duration of the course. • The Entry Clearance Officer will also need to be satisfied that the course you intend to follow will enhance your employment prospects in your country upon graduating and also that, you intend to return to your home country upon completion of your studies.

Prospective students are advised not to enter South Africa on visitor's visa with the objective of applying for a change of status at a later date since they will have to also meet the requirements outlined by the Department of Home Affairs.

Cost of Living

In addition to the tuition fees, Students will be required to have funds for their living expenses ranging from 1800 ZAR (300 USD) to 3000 ZAR (500USD) while in SA.
