HOW IT STARTED The two of us, Linette & Elmarie Maritz, started the concept because we love Sewing & Crafts! We are based in Cape Town and have organized Keen on Crafts for the past 2 years in Cape Town. In May 2006 we also took Keen on Crafts to Gauteng, where it was enthusiastically received. These workshops are organized as a joint venture with Owen Calverley and the Craftwise Team in Mossel Bay, who provide the media support. WHAT'S ON THE MENU? * A Choice of 33 different workshops!! * 4 x 100 minute workshops presented by experienced teachers and shop owners! * Complete a project or article hands-on during each workshop! * All materials used to complete project are included! * Only 10 people per workshop! * Receive a FREE value-packed ‘Goodie' bag! * 3 x Tea / Coffee, Mineral Water & Lunchbox included. This is your opportunity to experience a wide selection of Crafts & Sewing under one roof! A variety of ‘hot & happening' topics will be presented as hands-on workshops by hand picked experienced teachers. All workshops will be presented in BOTH Afrikaans & English. (We promise to talk “Egoli”-style.) Each workshop has a kit included to a minimum value of R20-00, and the teachers will supply you with everything needed to complete the specific project or article, plus full instructions. Workshops are repeated in four time slots daily and you pre-book & attend four different workshops of

• View the photos of the projects on the Keen on Crafts website and read through the descriptions of the various workshops on offer.

• Decide which workshops you are most interested in, then indicate your choice of SIX workshops in order of preference (two extra in case any of your first four choices are fully booked).

• If you book with a friend, please mention the friend's name and indicate which workshops the two of you would like to attend together. PLEASE NOTE: This depends on space availability!

• If you want to take advantage of the R275,00 FRIEND OFFER, the two or more people MUST book together (different workshops if preferred).

• You can pay via electronic transfer, credit card or cheque. Send us proof of payment with your booking slip.

• Once you send your booking slip and payment, your booking automatically goes into the queue. Depending on the number of bookings arriving at any given time, it can take up to 5 days to process your booking.

• If you e-mailed or faxed your booking and haven’t had a reply from us within 10 days, please follow it up and phone us!!

Some of the Teachers and Shop Owners have credit card facilities. We suggest you rob the (piggy) bank the day before... But don’t get caught! GENERAL: Please ensure that you allow enough time to get to the required workshop before it starts, as all workshops will start as scheduled. No repeats for latecomers. No walking around will be allowed between workshops while the workshops are in progress. Nobody will be allowed to enter the building if they are not booked for the day. Guests and sightseeing is not encouraged. 1. ‘MOSAICOPAGE’ Surika du Toit Itz van Allez, Northern Suburbs It's about time for a new take on decoupage, and Surika's got just the thing! Combine decoupage (without the podge) and mosaic work to create a marvelous item. Taking you through the basic steps of decoupage using a picture or serviette and paint, but finishing it off with clear glass tiles and grout instead of the traditional varnishes. 3. 3 D HAND EMBROIDERY WITH A DIFFERENCE Caren Kreamer Sew Easy Edenvale, Johannesburg Unlike anything you’ve done before – a fusion of heirloom techniques modernized by serviette decoupage to create a stunning 3D masterpiece! 5. GOLD WIRE SCULPTING Renee Swanepoel Grenadillo, Southern Suburbs The ancient art of wire sculpting has been revived and recently launched in South Africa by ‘Dragon Glass’! During this workshop gold filled wire is used to create your own unique gold ring. You will be taught how to use the correct pliers, shown how to wrap and wind, as well as adding interesting twists, turns and even beads. Come and experience this fantastic product and see the endless jewellery possibilities!! Learn the basic bookbinding techniques and cover using textured paper. You can "alter" it to express your creativity without boundaries. Decorating ideas are endless - Karen will show you how using various embellishments. Decorate your journal or memory book at home. Come join Sally for a fun workshop experimenting with different colours and widths of ribbon, creating your own fun handbag. 11. EASY PAPER MAKING & PAPER CLAY MOULDS Julie Botes Summerfields Arts & Crafts Recycle waste paper into the most stunning works of art and personalized gift ideas. Start by learning how to make your own handmade paper. Then experiment with different paper applications – making paper pressed designs using clay moulds. Decorate these using various paint techniques in bronze and a variety of colours and finish with gold. 13. MINIATURE CLAY TEDDY BEAR Manda Theart Studio/ Freelance (Pretoria, Johannesburg & Cape Town) If miniatures are your thing this promises to be a highlight, as Manda is Mrs. Bear!!! Warm up by practicing the basics of bear sculpting, creating your own keepsake pencil. Then bring your own bear to life by completing a basic miniature teddy bear from polymer clay. 22. STAINED GLASS PATCHWORK Simmy Schofield Stitch & Stuff, Claremont Simmy shows you how to cut and make your own quarter inch bias binding. Then apply this in creating a little flower quilted design in a stunning stained glass effect. Your new quilt can be used to decorate a cushion cover, made into a book cover or showed off in any which way you choose! This same technique can also easily be applied onto bigger projects. Start off with the basics while Sandy takes you through both techniques required for pewter - low relief and high relief. You will be doing a design which covers both techniques. 26. BRUSHSTROKES DECORATIVE PAINTING Belinda Burger Xotic Arts & Crafts, Northern Suburbs Learn the easy way to paint this traditional Folk Art way. Always thought that someone else in the family got the artistic genes? Well, Belinda is here to prove you wrong as she introduces you to a few basic steps of holding and using specific paint brushes. You will be practicing signing your name on your ‘paintings’ soon!! This technique can be used on various mediums. Complete a daisy flower decoration on wood for your own personalized key holder. GLYCERINE SOAP CRAFTING Jo-Ann Bannister Freelance, Northern Suburbs (Author: ‘Soap’) Jo-Ann is her name and good, clean, fragrant fun is her game ☺ Sure to be thoroughly enjoyed by first-timers, as well as something new for those of you who have seen her in action before. This workshop promises a variety of different projects and techniques. Complete a Dolphin soap, soap in a soap, an embossed soap, experiment with adding coloring and fragrance to glycerine soap, learn how to make your own mould using liquid latex, and finish off with a little surprise project. 30. ENCAUSTIC ART Jann Visser Freelance, Southern Suburbs Jann welcomes you to the wonderful and fascinating world of Encaustic Art - Painting with WAX! With the use of a small thermostatically controlled heated iron, pigmented beeswax is put onto the base of the heated iron turning the wax into molten wax. This liquid wax is 'ironed' onto a card and the rest, well ... it's all up to your imagination! With more than 50 different colors to choose from see how amazing designs, abstracts and even landscapes emerge using the Encaustic method which in turn can be used for creating cards or small pictures.
