Hello. We’re thankful for this opportunity to share with you our new and backlist titles.
If indeed the phrase publishing house could be taken literally, the books on these pages are the metaphoric bricks that form the walls that keep us safe, the roof tiles overhead that keep us dry, and the beams that support us.
Our collective professional aspiration is to get our authors’ works to as many readers as possible. This goal drives our actions, informs our conver-sations, and consumes a good part of our waking hours.
It’s our job to edit and design and promote these works to the very best of our abilities. We labor long to help our authors make their journeys and their insights clear, cogent and compelling. Our mission is built upon respect for the natural world, the wonders of the human condition, and guarding the environment for future generations. We want to help readers get more out of life.
We couldn’t do that without you. We sincerely appreciate your considering these books, these authors and their stories.
We both work to build communities: in your store, in your town, between readers and authors. As you know, a community is so much more than just buildings, roads and services - instead, it is shared purpose; camaraderie, character, commit-ment and caring; respect for one another. As is often said, a house is not a home without heart.
So this is our “publishing home” and you’re wel-come any time. Stay as long as you like and come back often. We are so grateful for your company.

Best Summit hikes in ColoradoThe Only Guide You’ll Ever Need: 50 Classic Routes and 90+ Summits
Second Edition
JAmeS DziezynSki
The guide covers all Colorado’s major mountain ranges, making it easy to select exactly the right hike for the right day, the right mood, and the right companions.
Author James Dziezynski has meticulously selected more than 80 of the state’s absolute best peaks in more than 50 superlative hikes, and his opinionated narrative brings each route to life. Each summit is included because of a notable feature—whether it’s the site of a ghost mine or airplane wreckage, has thun-dering waterfalls or colorful floral meadows, or is simply very accessible.
James Dziezynski’s love of adventure started in New England’s mountains and oceans. Following a National Outdoor Leadership School mountaineering course in Wyoming’s Wind River Mountains, he was eventually drawn to Colorado. His adventures have taken him into the Arctic, Greenland, the jungles of several Caribbean islands,
Mexico, the American and Canadian Rock-ies, and just about every US state. His work has appeared in Outside, Backpacker, Na-tional Geographic Adventure, Hooked on the Outdoors, Elevation Outdoors, Boulder Weekly, Mountain Bike, and 5280, among other publications.

Trails of the Angeles100 Hikes in the San Gabriels
Ninth Edition
John W. RoBinSon WiTh
Doug ChRiSTiAnSen
Includes a four-color, fold-out topographic map
This ninth edition of the essential guide to the San Gabriels has been revised and updated to reflect recent trail changes, and it now includes trips in the Fish Canyon Narrows, along Alder Creek, and to Jones Peak, as well as perennial favorites such as Old Baldy, Mt. Wilson, and Devils Punchbowl. Each detailed trip description notes the distance, difficulty, and ideal season, and also points out the highlights of the trail.
A series of natural and man-made disasters, culminating in the devastating 2009 Station Fire, have conspired to confound and frustrate hikers and nature-lovers and all who care about the San Gabriel Mountains. Happily, there have been some positive developments in the last few years. The upper por-tion of San Gabriel Canyon, including the Crystal Lake basin, was closed for years due to 2002’s Curve Fire, but it has at last reopened. Repairs to the access road from Arcadia to Chantry Flat, one of the most popular trailheads in the whole range, are finally complete. And two new wilderness areas were designated in the San Gabriels in 2009, protecting and preserving thou-sands of acres of vital habitat and watershed.
John W. Robinson has been hiking the San Gabriels for more than four decades and is considered the foremost expert on the area. He lives in Eagle Rock, California. For this ninth edition he’s been joined by seasoned hiker (and airline pilot) Doug Christiansen of Pasadena, who updated the book to reflect the latest trail conditions.

Walking Baltimore An Insider’s Guide to 33 Historic Neighborhoods, Waterfront Districts, and Hidden Treasures in Charm City
evAn BALkAn
Walking Baltimore includes Charm City’s well-known neighborhoods—Downtown, the Inner Harbor, Mount Vernon, and Fells Point. But in the voice of its insider author, the book also covers lesser-known and far-flung corners, revealing what makes Baltimore such a wonderful and fascinating destination and hometown.
Also the author of 60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Baltimore, Evan Balkan lives in Towson, Maryland.
Walking Portland 30 Tours of Stumptown’s Funky Neighborhoods, Historic Landmarks, Park Trails, Farmers Markets, and Brewpubs
BeCky ohLSen
Walking Portland guides travelers through the Rose City’s many charms, from idyllic waterfront fountains to the more obscure and out-of-the-way pockets of cool. On each walk, you’ll dis-cover hidden gardens, historic landmarks, oddball shops, and edgy warehouse galleries in some of the Northwest’s most excit-ing neighborhoods. You’ll cross bridges and graveyards, wander a Smithsonian-honored boulevard, see experiments in urban renewal, and explore massive urban forests. Portland also offers a huge variety of entertainments within a surprisingly compact area. Organic coffee shops line the streets at the foot of an extinct volcano and independent bookstores nestle up against food-cart pods. Already famous for its great beer, the city has become a center for serious dining on a reasonable budget. Grab this book, step outside, and walk Portland.

Walking Twin Cities 35 Tours Exploring Historic Neighborhoods, Lakeside Parks, Gangster Hideouts, Dive Bars, and Cultural Centers of Minneapolis and St. Paul
Second Edition
hoLLy DAy AnD SheRmAn WiCk
Even though they’re often lumped together, the Twin Cities are two distinct cities with very different histories. Minneapolis is the Mill City, the City of Lakes, composed mostly of flat prai-ries. St. Paul is the Capital City, built on rolling hills and high river bluffs. Whether you’re interested in art, culture, history, or nature, there’s a walk in this book designed for your interests.
This guide contains 35 walks of varying levels of difficulty, built around the natural, architectural, and historical attrac-tions of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The downtown areas of both cities—as well as many of the neighborhoods, scenic parks, and lakes that are scattered throughout the area—are explored in depth.
Sherman Wick and his wife and coauthor, Holly Day, both reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with their two children.

Wilderness Press is the official publishing partner of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nationwide nonprofit dedicated to converting former railroad corridors into public, multiuse recreational trails that offer easy access to runners, hikers, bicyclists, in-line skaters, wheelchair users, and equestrians. This series presents some of the finest rail-trails, usually near-level and through scenic countryside, in selected regions of the country.
Glove box–sized Byways guides are ideal travel companions for exploring established, unpaved backroads in SUVs or
4WD vehicles in some of the wildest country in the West. These popular books with spiral binding are easy to use, with
detailed directions, at-a-glance icons, GPS waypoints, information on campgrounds and amenities, and full-page maps.

Best Tent Camping: AlabamaYour Car-Camping Guide to Scenic Beauty, the Sounds of Nature, and an Escape from Civilization
Joe CuhAJ
One of the fastest-growing recreational activities in the country is tent camping. But where do you go for a peaceful weekend, with little distraction from the hustle and noise of everyday life? A place where the only night life is the chirping of frogs? A place where the rustle of leaves and the soothing flow of a stream replaces media chatter and chimes of a cell phone?
Best Tent Camping: Alabama is the perfect guide to the 50 best tent-camping sites in the Heart of Dixie. From white beaches to mountains and canyons, this guide takes you to the state’s most beautiful, lesser-known campsites. The guidebook’s ratings on beauty, privacy, spaciousness, quietness, security, and cleanli-ness help you choose the perfect spot. And each entry has com-plete contact and registration information, operating hours, a list of restrictions, directions, and GPS coordinates.
Joe Cuhaj is one of “those” Yankees who moved to Alabama and fell in love with the state and its amazing landscapes. A freelance writer by night, he is a software programmer by day and an outdoor enthusiast at all times. Most every weekend will find this author hiking the trails of the state, building new trails, or pitching a tent for a night out under the stars. Based in Daphne, Alabama, Joe’s love of his adopted home state shows in the titles of other books he has authored: Baseball in Mobile, Hike America: Alabama, Hiking Alabama, and Pad-dling Alabama.

A guide to the Chattooga RiverA Comprehensive Guide to the River and Its Natural and Human History
BuTCh CLAy
In 1974 the Chattooga River became the first river east of the Mississippi to be included in the National Wild and Scenic River System. It was included because it was a clean, free-flowing mountain stream located in a relatively undeveloped mountain environment. Forming part of the Georgia–South Carolina bor-der, the Chattooga is the only free-flowing portion of the Savan-nah River System. This book gives a comprehensive overview of the river including the topography, physiography and geology, weather and climate, human history, plant life, wildlife, and recreation opportunities.

Peaceful Places: Portland103 Tranquil Sites in the Rose City and Beyond
PAuL geRALD
Everybody knows about Portland’s food scene, its outdoor recreation, its bike lanes, beer pubs, and coffee shops. Seemingly every weekend there’s a festival, organized bike ride, political march, or something else clamoring for participation. In short, Portland is a happening town.
But sometimes folks just want to chill out, to go where there isn’t much happening. With books covering all the other activi-ties in town, where’s the one that tells people where they can do . . . well, not much?
The answer is Peaceful Places: Portland. Seeking out the places or times when the crowds will be elsewhere, Gerald will give you the essence of what each place is about—what makes it peace-ful or inviting. But he does not stint on also giving you all the detailed info you need to find the place and get there at the crowd-free time.
The theme that carries throughout the book is a simple one: Portland is a great city, but it’s still a city, and sometimes folks just need a break.
Paul Gerald is a freelance writer in the fields of travel, food, and the outdoors. He moved to Oregon in 1996 to pursue his writing habit and also enjoy the ocean, mountains, rivers, and big trees. He can’t seem to get enough hiking or camping, nor can he seem to stay in town when he has money and no deadlines.

gone Pro: Alabama Crimson Tide Athletes Who Became Legends
STeve miLLBuRg
• Heartwarming stories of triumph and heart-breaking tales of tragedy
• A great way for older fans to introduce their grandchildren to the heroes of yesterday, and for young readers to give older fans a nostalgic treat.
Although football has dominated Alabama’s sports history, Gone Pro: Alabama touches on multiple sports. Find out which quarterback turned in the greatest pro career: Ken Stabler, Bart Starr, or Joe Namath. Learn why Don Hutson, “The Alabama Antelope,” and not Jerry Rice, was the greatest wide receiver ever. The Crimson Tide has produced stellar athletes in other sports. Joe Sewell made the Baseball Hall of Fame. Riggs Stephenson, Dave Magadan, Butch Hobson, and others starred in the major leagues, and Alex Avila and David Rob-ertson have started building their own legends. In basketball, Antonio McDyess, Gerald Wallace, Latrell Sprewell, T. R. Dunn, and Robert Horry made their names in the NBA—so has Dominique Canty in the WNBA. Alabama has produced some top pro golfers, including Gardner Dickinson and U.S. Open champion Jerry Pate. And remember longtime baseball an-nouncer Mel Allen? He too got his start at Alabama.
Steve Millburg has been a freelance writer and editor since March 2007 after 17 years with magazines and 16 years with newspapers. Millburg began his professional career on the sports desk of the Omaha World-Herald in Nebraska while still in college. He lives in Birmingham, Alabama.

Sid gillman Father of the Passing Game
JoSh kATzoWiTz, FoReWoRD By DiCk veRmeiL
The first book ever written about Sid Gillman also contains stories of other famous coaches and Gillman’s impact on them.
Sid Gillman, unlike so many of his coaching colleagues, never wrote a book about himself. But Gillman was a true innovator, one who will never be forgotten by the coaches he directly—and indirectly—impacted. The high-flying offenses NFL fans love can be directly traced back to the Midwestern coach who was a pioneer of the West Coast offense. In order to truly understand why football offenses are so exciting today, learning about Gill-man is absolutely essential.
Josh Katzowitz covers the NFL for CBSSports.com.
