Pre-registrationPre-registration is required. Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to minimum enrollment requirements, you are encouraged to sign up at least seven business days before the first session. In all classes except online classes, once the minimum enrollment requirement is met, registrations will be accepted until the start date if space is available. For online classes, the registration deadline is one week before the class begins.

Registering a friend or co-workerYou may register yourself and others. A separate form (or online registration) must be submitted for each person. Information required for each person – such as address, birth date and Social Security number – must be included.

Registration confirmationKCC will send a confirmation of each registration. The confirmation will include a receipt, your beginning and end course dates, classroom location and any additional information.

Waiting listsIf the class you want to take is full, ask to be placed on a waiting list. If another class is opened, you will be contacted.

Instructor absencesInstructors rarely miss classes, but if a session is unexpectedly canceled, every effort will be made to call you. However, since this often happens on short notice, a sign will be posted at the class location.

Weather cancellationsWhen KCC campus closes due to inclement weather, Continuing Education and Career Services classes are postponed. Classes canceled due to weather will be rescheduled. Visit www.kcc.edu/severeweatherclosings for information on notifications.

Cancellation policyIf a class must be canceled by KCC, those who have enrolled will receive full refunds. The college will make every attempt to notify participants in advance of cancellations. Refunds from credit card payments will be made in the form of a credit to the cardholder’s account.

Withdrawal policyParticipants may withdraw and receive full refunds, minus a $3 service fee, until two working days before the first session of class. After that point, no refunds will be given. Withdrawals are accepted by phone at 815-802-8207, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Spanish Interpretation: General InterpretationInterpreters are needed in public service areas throughout the state. If you love helping people, have a good ear for language and can speak Spanish, you should consider working as a Spanish interpreter. This course introduces the field of interpreting, cognitive processes associated with interpreting, listening, short-term memory, visual/auditory processing, thought organization, and logic. Emphasis is on developing skills necessary to generate equivalent messages between Spanish and English. Our instructorAnn ObergfellAnn Obergfell presents at the local, state and national level on the subjects of law, ethics and practice standards in medical imaging. Obergfell is the interim dean, professor and chair of the department of radiography at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, in Indiana. Prior to working for IPFW, Obergfell was dean of health sciences at St. Catharine College in St. Catharine, Ky. from 1999-2010. She was a faculty member and coordinator of clinical education in radiography in the School of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Louisville from 1984-1999. Obergfell is a graduate of the Parkview Hospital School of Radiography and Indiana University Fort Wayne with an Associate of Science

degree in radiologic technology. Our instructorAlyson BeytienAlyson Beytien—the mother of three sons with autism—is a nationally-known, popular speaker on Autism Spectrum Disorders. Beytien is a consultant and trainer for school systems throughout the U.S. on educating and supporting individuals with autism. She

specializes in keynote addresses and workshops for educators, support personnel, medical professionals, caregivers, and families. Beytien has a master’s degree in education, specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorders, from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood special education. She is the moderator of DVD training for families and a columnist for Autism Spectrum Quarterly magazine. When she isn’t writing behavior plans, Beytien plays in dirt and hoards quilt fabric.

CNA Re-certification This certified nursing assistant recertification is for those who have successfully completed the Illinois Nurse Aide Examination, but are no longer on the Illinois Nurse Aide Registry. The process provides recertification skills and offers a review for the state exam. All students will undergo a Uniform Conviction Information Act (UCIA) criminal background check prior to the clinical. Our instructorFreddie FrankenAn adjunct professor of music at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Freddie Franken teaches Applied Guitar, Jazz Theory, 20th Century American Popular Music, Jazz Combo Ensembles, and Music in the Church Service. Franken has

been active in the Chicago music scene for many years, performing a wide range of genres, including smooth jazz, Latin jazz, gypsy jazz, classical, rock and acoustic worship. Currently, he plays with Paris La Nuit and his band, Eastbound, as well as making frequent freelance appearances. Franken is a graduate of Governors State University in University Park and the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.

GED predictive testingBefore paying a fee and sitting for the GED tests, you can take the free GED predictive test. This test is especially useful for those who have not taken tests for awhile.

• The test is available by appointment.

• The test takes approximately 4 hours, and it covers the same 5 areas as the actual GED exam.

• Participation in GED preparation courses is recommended but not required prior to taking the predictive test.

• Results are available within one hour.

Note: Although the GED predictive test is free, there is a charge to take the actual GED exam.

Adult basic literacyDo you want to learn to read better? Do you know someone who wants to learn to read better?

The ALIVE Adult Literacy program provides individual and small group tutoring to improve the reading skills of adults ages 16 years and older.

English as a Second Language (ESL)All English as a Second Language classes are provided at no cost to the student. The classes are designed for foreign-born adults who would like to improve their English language speaking and writing skills. Instructors and tutors work with students in small groups. There are five levels of classes, to help students at every stage of learning.

These programs are designed for the student to prepare for the GED high school equivalency diploma. The classes are for those who can read, but who would like to improve skills. Program features:

• Open to anyone age 16 and over who is separated from his/ her high school and is no longer attending high school.

After training, you’ll be prepared for an entry-level position in the trucking industry.KCC’s Truck Driver Training program works with many trucking companies that will pre-hire students. The fact is, truck driving is one of the few occupations where students who complete training are almost certain to go to work immediately. Most students receive several job offers prior to completion of the program.

Register at any time. Full-time programs start every month. Part-time programs start every eight to 10 weeks. Training is scheduled around holidays and interruptions caused by weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
