ICEBREAKERof the month

RALLYSurfin' up ServiceLet the final countdown to Rally begin! With

only a little time left, Division 13 clubs should be stocking up on tanning oil and flip flops for the beach-themed event. Escape the autumn chill for an afternoon and join your fellow Key Clubbers for one final day of summer. Remember- No shoes, no shirt... No entry. Now that all of the bases are covered, see you November 5th at Northshore High School!

BACK TO BACK: Every group member must find a partner of approximately equal height and weight, if possible. The partners will lock arms with their backs to one another. With arms remaining locked at all times, the partners will sit down on the ground, kick their legs out straight, and try to stand back up. Then groups of four will try the same thing. Then groups of eight, 16, and eventually, the entire group together. This is the perfect activity to begin a trust sequence.

This year's Governor's Project is Project Inspire. Project Inspire is a life changing project that helps children suffering from pediatric cancer by donating time, money, and love to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In order to achieve these goals, Key Clubbers will be hosting fundraisers, multiple 5K runs/walks, an eight hour dance marathon, and a Day of Inspiration. The Day of Inspiration will be the zenith of the project, where LaMissTenn Key Clubbers will be invited to accompany the Governor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to play with the children and present their accomplishments to the patients, staff, and families. Become inspired, get involved with Project Inspire.

PREMATURITY AWARENESS MONTH

• The month of November is Prematurity Awareness Month. This is a great time to educate others about the issues surrounding premature birth. 1 in every 8 babies is born premature. Visit marchofdimes.com/prematurity for the latest information on the campaign. To learn about the latest youth initiatives for this event, visit the Activities section of marchofdimes.com/youth.

KC WEEK AND PREMATURITY AWARENESS MONTH

• Key Club Week occurs within Prematurity Awareness Month. Show your dedication to service by assisting at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Babies that are too small or too sick to go home stay in the NICU. You can help by:o Preparing Parent Care Kits, which are gifts that are given to each NICU family filled with comforting and informative materialso Volunteering to assist in Sibling Hours, participating in crafts, storytelling and a NICU introduction for big brothers and sisterso Make greeting cards for new parents, including information about newborn screening and immunizations

Barbecue dinners This is an especially good project to do in early fall. Food usually can be secured wholesale. This project would be ideal before a school sporting event. Sell tickets prior to the dinner, and make sure you promote the event.

Car smash An old car usually will be donated to a club by a service station or a junk yard (or ask members of your sponsoring Kiwanis club). After painting the name of a rival school on the car and removing the glass, the club can charge a fee for each swing at the car with a sledgehammer. Publicity and active support of the principal are extremely important.

Games Activities&

Sardines (Reverse Hide and Seek) GameSardines is a fun game which is very much like Hide and Seek, except it is done in reverse. It can be pretty humorous, as many people end up hiding in interesting places, resembling a bunch of sardines jammed together! How to PlayOne person is picked to be “it”. This person is given some time to hide while everyone else sits in a neutral spot with their eyes closed for a specified amount of time. When the time is up, everyone searchers for the person who is “It”. When this person is found, instead of ending the game, one tries not to let other people know where the person is; instead, he or she joins the person at their hiding spot. The object is to not be the last one left. The first person that found “It” gets to be “It” the next time. Be sure to have proper guidelines in place for appropriate boundaries and hiding spots. Safety always comes first.
