  • The spirit at KAZA Concrete has been curious, intuitive, functionally artistic and entertaining from the very beginning; manifesting in the love and improvement

    invested in what we create.

Things at KAZA dont change with fashion trends, because

good designs dont have a chronology, they all equally

    capture the progression of time.

This is why we produce prescient ideas first, before we turn to

one of the most ancient and most contemporary materials to

realise those ideas. No other medium serves our philosophy

and aesthetic demand better than refined concrete.

  • Under the name Mystile KAZA Concrete presents a cross section of contemporary artistic tile solutions. KAZA is proud to offer the worlds first truly bespoke concrete tile

    design system.

Applying a sensitive balance of artistry and technology, we

thrive to immerse into a dialogue with clients to design and

manufacture modular concrete surfacing solutions as objects

of art, through applied geometry and ornamentation.

The richness and diversity of contemporary tile art is conveyed

through examples from the entire spectrum of visual art:

    sculpture, painting, graphics and installations.

The exceptional design freedom enabled by the combination

of material and technology serves as inspiration for every

    creative individual.

This gave birth to our collection, always representing the

freshest tile designs together with previous timeless pieces. It

reflects each designers personal take on trends in their own

countries, but also developments on the international scene.

  • This palette constitutes KAZAs base colour offering.

  • F O R M As a wallpaper designer, I look to create a sense of space

and dimension in an interior, using a flat printed surface. For

the design of the wall tiles I was, in contrast, excited to work with

the actual relief only. I stripped back any surface image, reflection

and colour, to retain a purity to the overall effect.

Each Form tile can be applied individually in a continuous repeat,

or in endless combinations with the other 3D Form tiles to create

    a cohesive bespoke pattern.

  • Erica Wakerly | Her successful application to the RCA came

from a desire to develop her illustration and design skills together

as one. As an RCA undergraduate she won first prize in both

the Dorma Award and Graham & Brown Award. Upon gradu-

ation Erica founded her Erica Wakerly label launching her first

groundbreaking and highly acclaimed collection of wallpapers

in 2006 for which she received Elle Decoration Best Wallcover-

ing Award 2007 and Homes & Gardens Young Designer of the

Year 2007. Erica launched her first collection of textiles in 2009.

As well as having establishing a global distribution network with

representatives in over 25 countries she continues to work for

private clients on bespoke commissions and large scale public

spaces projects. In 2012 Erica contributed a unique design for

Wallpaper* Magazine Handmade exhibition in Milan. She lives

and works with her young family in Margate, Kent.

This tile design has come from a pastime that competes with illustration for my attentiongardening. I have recently begun studying horticulture to try and satisfy my

curiosity and have the utmost respect and fascination for

plant life both from botanical and aesthetic perspectives.

My studies have allowed me to research shape and form in

    detail, literally through a microscope!

Having lived in Japan, when young, and since travelled

there I am very drawn to motifs and icons and as a result

my work is often pared down to the simplest form. Con-

versely, a key inspiration is the late Joseph Frank of the

Stockholm design company Svenkst Tenn who really did

justice to the drama and diversity of flora in his exuberant

    fabric and wallpaper designs.

I imagine the tiles as a fluid rippling expanse on a tall wall,

seeds en masse as if packed into a flower.

Gillian Blease | Born 1970 in Congleton, Cheshire, Gillian

studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

After graduating she was employed by the Whitworth Art

Gallery in Manchester and continued her art practice at

local studios until she was awarded an artists work/live

residency in London in 1997. When a piece of work was

featured in a current affairs magazine in 2001 she recog-

nised a medium with which she felt instantly comfortable.

Having taught herself creative software she set herself up

as a digital illustrator and never looked back. Chiefly an

editorial illustrator Gillians clients include The Guardian

newspaper, the Economist, Wired Magazine and the Trade

    Union Congress.

As an antidote to current affairs and having always been

influenced by applied and surface pattern design she

began developing her own patterns in 2006 which have

since found their way onto book covers, table mats and

    now concrete tiles!

  • The design of Button concrete tile was induced by an experiment: it examined the development of a formation system created by objects pressed into a rubber sheet. The rub-

ber sheets own physical characteristics mould firm forms and

fine arcs impossible to reproduce by any other method. When

creating the form, the objective was to minimize human inter-

vention and leave the emergence of design to the materials

themselves. The shape resembling a pulled-in button connects

to the base layer with perfect arcs. As an extra compositional

feature, additional dimension is added to the tile by a visually

confusing characteristic, namely it is hard to decide whether we

see a stand-out or depressed pattern from certain perspectives.

Throughout my work I seek beauty derived by noble simplicity.

Forms created in the designing process are handled as objects

resembling musical instruments that oscillate along the edges,

and keep the bounded surface stretched. This tension triggers

the atmosphere and voice suggested by the design object.

Codolagni Design Studio | Gabor Kodolanyi, founder of Codolagni

Design Studio, is a true designer and maker with a special eye on

combining beautiful aesthetics with utmost precision. Throughout

his works he seeks beauty derived by noble simplicity.

A year after graduating as designer from the Institute of Applied

Arts (Sopron), Gabor founded his own Codolagni Design Studio

(CDS). Since then, his work has focused on designing and manu-

facturing unique pieces of furniture and lighting objects under the

Codolagni brand. Primary use of solid materials contributes to the

candid relationship between material and form. He presented his

    own collection at Tent London in 2012. T i l e e l e m e n t s 4 d i f f e r e n t f o r m s

  • My objective with this design was to dilute the plane of the surface by soft, organic forms. I was looking for a pattern suitable to create an intimate mood both for

    indoors and outdoors.

I turned to nature for inspiration, and ended up applying the

simplest of petal motives.I managed to enhance the rippling

effect of the motive by adding a soft bas-relief to the petals

for wall covering. The surface will appear to be moving when

lit by a moving light source (e.g. approaching car) due to

the shell shape of the petals. Placed into an interior, stat-

ic light conditions will constitute a slow-paced, pleasant

    background.

When installed on smaller surface, a single colour selection

    may suffice.

Akos Horvath | Creator in a wide range of visual arts,

Akos professional career spans more than 30 years.

Following the path of great masters, he combined his

study and work as apprentice at various artists including

the galleries of painters Lajos Cziraky and Otto Vagfalvi,

later worked with industrial artist Laszlo Hefter and painter

    Sandor Farsang.

He applied his experience as illustrator and interior

designer in the eighties when his visual language took a

definite shape. Besides designing coloured glass installations

and sculptural elements, he created several unique pieces

of furniture, as part of his interior design practice.

Currently Akos is the art director of award winning

video games and an avid collector of everything pattern.

He owns a collection of 10.000 publications on illustra-

tion and pattern, the greatest in Eastern Europe.

His works have been exhibited in various galleries since

the beginning of the eighties, and have been awarded the

grand prize of Fandom Directory Artwork Contest (USA)

    and Champagne Silhouettes magazin (Canada).

Crisp tile was born out of Levi Fignars enthusiasm for polygonal archi-tecture. Despite planning the design to function as a supplementary element of the space, be it a bathroom or a loft, at the same time it is also

empowered to attract attention through its visual effect. Refractions in

waveform induced by small triangles composing the surface enhance the

    luxury atmosphere of the space.

Levi Fignar | Learn the old, discover the present, experiment with the new,

and organise the matrix. Constantly return to the impossible to reverse the

course. Speak the language of the material, be it concrete or LCD. Levi Fignar

is a designer who believes in the superior power of the material.

The means and tools are the language of the material, fluency in this

language is fundamental to the birth of the unity. Within lies every value to

    be created and added.

  • For Skyline, the new textures designed by Marco Piva for Kaza Concrete, we figured out a graphic that rep-resents the overall view of a citys buildings and structures

    against the sky, skyline, indeed.

The contrast given by Skyline three-dimensional texture

is really of impact, and can be used in different contest,

both horizontal or vertical, to give new possibilities to the

concrete material: not just the worlds most commonly

used building material, but a dynamic and changeable

    one, in different situation.

Moreover, the pattern interlace across tiles, and different

combination are possible. So, also with concrete, custom

is possible, and Skyline could be the way.

The aim, in Skyline, is to demonstrate that concrete is a

versatile material. We can shape it both for new innovative

architectures, and for unexpected and unusual interior

design. The innovation comes from the matter, for building

a better skyline of our future.

Marco Piva | Exciting, fluid, func-

tional. This is the language that

    distinguishes Marco Pivas architec-

    tural creations, product design and

interior design. The effort in material research and tech-

nology, the value of differentiation, the design innovation,

lead the establishment of Studiodada Associates. In the

    80s opens Studio Marco Piva.

Traveller and designer, innovator who is educated in

rational approaches, Marco Piva studies and creates

design solutions which are pervaded by stylistic freedom

    and compositional sobriety.

Currently, he is engaged in the construction of the residential

complex Rawdhat Residential Buildings in Abu Dhabi, on

the architectural and interior project of the Hotel Gallia in

Milan, in a 4000 sqm masterplan in Beijing and in prestig-

ious private houses in India. Moreover, he has started a

collaboration with the acclaimed fashion maison Bulgari,

and he is designing all its store windows worldwide.

Haus derived from my love of architecture and persian design. I am constantly photographing interested surfaces and patterns, collecting exciting primary research.

When thinking about a design for tiles, I wanted to create

a simple yet striking visual, that would work well as a large

repeat structure, or mixed within other tile designs.

Kirath Ghundoo | is a surface pattern designer, primarily

designing striking wallpaper collections for interior

residential and commercial spaces worldwide. She explores

contrasts with pattern and colour in a distinct way, creating

an innovative brand with a strong identity. With inspirations

stemming from fashion, street-style, architecture, travel and

everyday daily encounters such as cocktails at her favourite

bar, people watching or a conversation, her designs are an

eclectic mix of exuberant pattern and explosive colour.

London has become KAZAs flagship design originally created for the 100% Design show. It intends to demonstrate the versatility the new concrete material offers in terms of shape, texture, pattern and colour vis--vis traditional tiles. This debut

design received great reviews and has been featured in numerous design and

architectural publications. London reflects the trust placed in serendipity and

symbolises life as a floral meadow. It vitalises the surface day after day for many

    years to come.

  • Zsanett Kincses | Since I was a child, to paint, fold, transform, shape, draw, or simply re-think, re-arrange

materials has always delighted me. My environment is about continuously changing objects, shapes and

colours which are related to each other. When there is an idea, I cant concentrate on anything else; the

whole outside world is going to turn off for a while. For me this is a complete peace of mind and much more.

I like to restore battered objects. I like interesting materials.

I live in Szentendre (City of Painters), and operate mainly as a graphic designer and try to become more

    expert in 3D designing.

  • Florentins flower-motife comes from an old book about medieval architecture and ornaments. It was decorating a wall in a monas-terys cloister. These tetragonal, half-opened spaces were designed

for meditation and contemplationexactly the same idea evoked in me

observing the undulate but smoothed down lines of this flower.

I multiplied the pattern and eked out the interspaces with assimetric

rhombs to make a constant and telling marking.

The name, Florentinwhich can refer to the capital of the Renais-

sanceis also a male name with the concurrent meaning of flourishing,

thriving and considerable. It derivates from the tender flower but it

still stands for the shielding, eternal man. Just as the main character of

the Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquezs novel Love in the Time

of Cholera, Florentino Ariza, who at the age of 80 enthralls his childhood

love. He is tenacious and steady but extremely gentlesimilar to flower

    patterns cast in concrete.

Mercedesz Nagy | Drawing and designing played a substantial role

in my life since childhood, but at the time of career decision I opt-

ed literature and aesthetics against actual art-studies. Although as a

profession I chose artphiolosophie, drawing and desinging remained

a vital background, a meditative basis and an inexhaustible source of joy.
