Kay H. Hoke

It is with sadness the Society announces the death of Kay Hoke. Kay passed away at his residence sometime during the

weekend of December 10-11, 2016, prior to the Holiday meeting of the Society on the 12th. Kay was a Life Member of the

Society for approximately 40 years and served faithfully as a Board member for most of that time. At one point, he was

the sole person responsible for all of the Society’s business and daily needs including picking up the mail, creating the

monthly bulletin and auction, corresponding secretary and treasurer! Over the last couple of years Kay worked with the

Board to “share the workload” by seamlessly training other members how to perform the many tasks required to keep

the Society humming along every month.

A viewing was held at the Nuuanu Memorial Park on Monday, December 19th. The Family has taken Kay back to Arizona

for burial and will be planning a memorial service to be held in Arizona at a date to be announced. Additionally, the Family

is planning a memorial service to be held in Hawaii for Kay’s “Hawaii Ohana”—date to be determined.

The Society sends its condolences to the Hoke Family. The Society will be following up with an appropriate obituary in a

future edition of the Bulletin.

December 12, 2016, the Society’s Annual Christmas celebration, was called to order by President Yakuma at 7:40PM. The

“Business” portion of the meeting was postponed allowing members and guests to accept the death of one of its long-

time members and to socialize as Kay would have insisted. It was a merry time for him----wearing his Santa hat! Following

a catered banquet meal, President Yakuma conducted the December All-Hawaiian Auction. Adjourned at 10:00 PM.

BUYERS WANTED

1) The Society is assisting in the disposal of a former member’s U.S. Coil Collection. This is an extensive collection, in terms of

volume of material, of mostly used, pre-cancel and unused lots.

2) Plate Blocks for sale or trade! Member has a rather large inventory of duplicates and is anxious to “clear out his stock books”.

3) Looking for United Nations stamps, FDC’s, etc.? Also, a modest collection of Vatican stamps.

and details.

NOTICE – PROPOSED EXPERTIZING CHANGES The Board is in the process of reviewing the fees charged for expertizing stamps and is offering the following draft for comment from

the membership. Please forward comments to the HPS email or PO Box. Should this be acceptable to the membership, implementation

is proposed for April 1, 2017, which allows members to take advantage of the current fee structure prior to any increase.
