Wide awake – Katy Perry

This wide shot of the artist Katy Perry is at the beginning of the music video, it shows the use of voyeurism due to the artist being on screen and off. The use of intertexual references is seen in this clip as we are shown Katy on a pink cloud which is also seen in another one of her music videos. The pink wig she is seen wearing is also shown in the "California girls" video.

Here a close-up shot is used, to show thefacial expression, and to show the contrast In the previous bright and colourful colours usedSuch as pink, to this video which has used black,reds, and blues.

In this clip a establishing shot is used to show theaudience the surroundings created for the music video.

In this shot a tracking movement is used to followthe character with the lantern. The tracking movementgives the audience a sense of involvement and feelLike they are going through this scene with her.

A close up is used again here, and shows a very similar story to snow white the fairy talein which the wicked witch takes a apple from the tree, this could mean that Katy is portrayinga evil character within the music video, and following the same characteristics.

Here a low angle is used in this shot, the purpose is to make the audience share the littlegirl's perspective of the scene. The low angle was also used to make the animals in thebackground look dominant and aggressive.

During this shot, a over-the-shoulder angle is used. This is very appealing to the audience because it gives a sense that they are involved and we get a feel of the relationship between the two characters. It also shows the audience the facial expressions of the character. This is the part of the video where the colour has changed, the colours used in this clip represent pop music, as they are bright, a contrast to the coloursused previously.

Here a mid- shot is used. The purpose of this is to show the character but to also showthe audience the name on the back of the bike. The name of the main character and artistis Katy Perry, and the little girl in this video is shown to be getting on a bike with thename Katheryn on the back of it, showing that maybe the young girl is playing Katy as a child.This is done cleverly because it again involves the viewers and they feel as if they arefollowing a story.

In this final shot, a low angle shot is used. The scene shows Katy performing her songlive, this is a link to the pop genre. The low angle is used to make Katy look powerful anddominant to viewers.
