Welcome Back
Welcome back to school to all families for the 2016 school year. The children seem refreshed from their holidays and
keen to learn in their new classrooms. We do not have any change in staffing this year apart from downgrading to four
classroom teachers. This year is an important one in our triennial cycle as it is our school review year. This means that
an external person from another school or department will review our policies, procedures and practises. In this
process, staff, students, school council and parents will be asked to provide information. I will keep you up to date
when the review is happening.
Our swimming program starts on February 8th and will run for ten swimming days. The cost of this program is included in
our School fees. This is an important program for the children and the focus is on water safety with stroke development
being introduced as the children’s competence improves. We need parent volunteers for this program to operate so
please consider participating in the program if you can be at the Numurkah pool from 12.00 – 1.00pm for the swimming
sessions. Please refer to the attached roster and contact the office or return the form with your availability if you are
able to assist in anyway. A parent information session will be held on Friday the 5th of February at 10.00 am for parents
who are assisting with the program.
Other dates to be aware of that our school will be involved in includes Saturday March 12th where we cater for the
Waaia Tractor Pull as well as Bunnings BBQ on February 7th in Shepparton. Both of these days are major fundraisers for
the school and we have enjoyed significant parent participation in previous years. Of course more information on these
activities will follow.

2 Thrive, Strive and Achieve
I have attached information about the forthcoming tennis trials for children that will take place on Wednesday February
10th in Shepparton. Please contact the school if you would like your child to participate in the tennis trials.
This year looks like another busy one. We are looking forward to it as a staff and I envisage that you as parents are in
the same boat. Let’s make it an excellent year for everyone involved in the Katunga Primary School community and give
our students every opportunity to Strive, Thrive and Achieve in 2016.
Scott McKenzie - Principal
Bus Travellers
Parents should note that if you have made other than normal travel arrangements for your child you must inform the school. Without a note or telephone call, your child will be put on the bus and dropped off at their regular stop. Please note that only registered bus travellers are able to travel on the school bus.
Permission Form and Confidential Student Information/Bus Policy
In order to keep our school records up to date we are asking parents to read through the School Bus Policy, Student Information form and sign the Permission / Consent form being sent home today. All students will travel on a bus at some stage for excursions etc therefore we ask all families to complete the Bus form.
Please return completed forms to school as soon as possible so that we have your child’s records up to date.
Library Books
Thank you to everyone who has returned books in 2015. Can you please have another look at home to see if there are
any other library books hanging around as we do have some books not accounted for. We will begin borrowing from
the library next week. At present the library is in the old grade 5/6 room. This will continue to be the case in 2016 until
we have refurbished the other building.
Privately run Music classes (DILLMAC Entertainment)
Andrew from DILLMAC will once again by out at our school this year. He will start running lessons next Tuesday for the
guitar or keyboard. If you are interested in having your child participate in these lessons you can either contact Andrew
directly (see flyer at end of newsletter) or the office where we can supply you with an enrolment form. To participate in
these lessons you must pay DILLMAC Entertainment as it is a privately run class, these classes are not ran by the school.
Personal Property
Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. The Department of Education and Training does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it will generally not pay for any loss or damage to such property.
Lunch Orders
Lunch orders are provided from the Katunga General Store each day of the school week. Order forms are available from the foyer of the office. Parents are encouraged to speak with Peter or Vicki at the Katunga General Store if they wish to open accounts otherwise money should be placed in an envelope with the child’s order and placed in the blue container in the foyer of the school. Lunch orders are collected each morning and lunches brought back to the school at 1pm. Please note a couple of changes to the order form. Dim Sims and toasted sandwiches will now be available from Monday the 1st of February.
