Week 1 – Week Commencing 26th February 2018

ObjectivePlanning Tasks to be undertaken this week

Monday am x3 The first task I will undertake is creating my PowerPoint presentation. Using the work I have undertaken for Unit 12, my next step is to develop my ideas to commence Unit 13.

For each idea I will be placing my ideas in context, talking about why I have decided up on this idea and thinking about and discussing the areas of research that I would undertake for example:

• Literature review

• Exploration of existing media products

• Experimentation

I will then consider my target audience, thinking about who I would be making my product for.

Monday pm x2 I will be beginning my unit 13 document by completing my skills timeline and my skills focus

Tuesday am x2 Present my ideas to my tutor to decide which one I am going to move forward with.

This week has been a really great kick start to the project. It has helped me to feel really motivated and excited to begin researching, experimenting and filming my idea. I not only have made a really solid start to chapter one, I have also been able to present my ideas and decide on the idea that I am going to be moving forward with. Although I did struggle at first to put pen to paper and actually articulate the ideas that were in my head, after a lot of editing and cutting down, I managed to complete my presentation with a solid idea and I am really excited for what is to come.Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Problem Resolution

The first problem that I have had this week is putting the ideas that are buzzing around my mind onto paper. As I was trying to articulate my ideas, I felt like I had so much to talk about. I found that my ideas were too broad, and weren’t focusing on anything specific.

The other problem that I have had this week is the snow. Because of the awful weather conditions, the college had to close on Wednesday.

To resolve this problem, I made a small mind map on a rough piece of paper, and simply wrote the specific elements of my idea. This helped me to focus in more on the specific parts of my ideas.

The simple resolutions to this problem was working from home. Because I presented on Tuesday, it was able to continue working on my ‘Who am I’ task, as well as beginning my project proposal and timetable.

Tasks to be undertaken this week

Monday am x3 I will firstly be working on my second draft of my project proposal and rework my schedule slightly to better fit the time frame that I have. This will give me more time for research and experimentation.

Monday pm x 2 I am going to finish working on chapter one, making sure my work is well illustrated, with detailed introductions and conclusions.

Tuesday am x 2 I will now move onto chapter 2, researching into and beginning my literature review.

Tuesday pm x 2 Continue with my literature review, and begin research towards my practitioners report and media product review.

Wednesday am x 2 Continue with my literature review, practitioners report and media product review, making sure that my work is well illustrated and well thought through.



This week has been really informative, have completed the second draft of m proposal and have sent it off to my tutor. I feel like going through my proposal and thinking about specific elements of my project has helped me to understand my project in greater detail. I have also finished chapter one. Finishing chapter one and creating my research plan has helped me to become more aware of what I specifically need to research throughout the next few weeks to make sure my project is well informed. Also, reflecting upon ‘who I am’ has also greatened my understanding towards why I decided to do my project, and what makes me want to do my project. I also made a strong start to chapter to, adding illustrations and began searching m sources. Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Problem Resolution

Like last week, one problem that I did struggle with this week is being able to cut down the length of each section of my project proposal. I have always struggled to stick to word limits simply because I am so passionate about my project and I really want to talk about it.

Another thing that I struggled with this week was coming up with specific research questions to back up my research plan. My questions were far too broad.

I resolved this problem by only stating the points that were completely necessary to the comprehension of my project. I made sure to stay specific, and not go off on a tangent.

I resolved this by thinking about exactly what I wanted to find out with the research that I was doing. When I struggled further, I noted down my main research points and this helped me to curate a well thought out research question.

I went through my project proposal with my tutor this morning I have realised that I need to be more specific instead of adding lots of big statements that haven’t been backed up. I also need to be careful with how I word each sentence as sometimes I can go over the word count by trying to make a sentence longer than it needs to be. Peer Reviews – minimum 1 a week, ideally 1 a task. Please state clearly who is reviewing your work, and what task they are reviewing.

Finn Connolly:Project proposal: I really like how you have made sure discuss the most specific and important parts of your project within your proposal. I am really interesting the idea of using what the audience already knows and sees every day to show the unrealistic expectations of being perfect.Carla Binder:Your research plan were specific and clear. I think you could add even more detail by saying specific examples of websites you would visit.Ben Miller:Your intro is clear and concise. I love how well edited all of your work is. You have started planning your research and I can see that you have a strong bibliography forming for this chapter.



Monday am x 3 Chapter two has turned out to be a slightly bigger task than I first thought. I realise the importance of this task and I have decided to spend today working on my chapter two. More specifically my literature review.

Monday pm x 2 This afternoon I am going to be finishing on my chapter two work. I ned to make sure that all of my work is proofread and well-illustrated.

Tuesday am x 2 Today I will be working on my research design. This includes target audience research, skills and techniques research and production research. I will make sure to plan my research thoroughly, and conduct my experiments professionally, making sure to use reliable sources for my research.
