Kast’s founder Tim Bayes began working with concrete 20 years ago producing custom works for contemporary interiors. Working with this ‘liquid stone’ that was strong, durable and aesthetically pure, he was convinced that it could become the ideal material for interior products.

Realising this vision took many years of development, researching and refining both the precise mix of the concrete and the complex casting process. Tim has grown his team and continued to innovate, pushing the envelope of how concrete can be used. Kast is the product of all these years of experience, condensed into a refined range of contemporary concrete basins.

Just a couple of miles from the world-famous Sherwood Forest, our factory continues the rich industrial history of Nottinghamshire, employing the best designers and expert craftsmen. The factory is also home to a research and development facility where specialist admixtures, pigments and casting processes are tested to deliver outstanding strength, durability and silk-smooth finishes. From this base, Kast basins can be delivered throughout the country and across the world in days.

Concrete is an extremely versatile material that combines the characteristics of natural stone with the ability to be cast into any shape.

One of the things that makes Kast stand out from other concrete basin manufacturers is our concrete. Using what we like to call ‘old school’ concrete, Kast basins are cast with a unique mix of natural aggregates, sand and cement. No glass fibres. The result is real, solid concrete with organic, stone-like characteristics.

The organic variations in colour and surface texture that can occur as a result of using real concrete and aggregates creates a distinctive aesthetic that is integral to the character of the material.

These idiosyncrasies are considered part of the aesthetic appeal of concrete and are what makes each Kast basin unique.

Concrete is also only as good as the mould from which it was cast which is why we use a combination of skilled craftsmen and precision engineering to produce highly refined concrete basins with a strong focus on attention to detail.

All Kast basins that are designed to be wall mounted will be supplied with wall mounting brackets. To ensure that basins are fully supported, brackets must be recessed into the wall by 10-22mm and fixed to an appropriate wall substrate such as timber or metal studding. All standard basin brackets have a 70mm width with a varying height from 60-100mm depending on the overall length.

All bespoke work will be judged accordingly by a member of the design team. Overall sizes will then be detailed on the manufacture drawings and require sign off by the client before going into production.

Weight

To maintain the natural characteristics of concrete all Kast basins are manufactured using an old school mix design made up of aggregates, sand and cement. As a result all Kast basins will be heavy and it is the client’s responsibility to ensure that the brackets are fixed sufficiently to a structural wall in order to support the basins. Custom basin weights can be provided as an estimation and then confirmed once the basin has been produced if required.

Frames

As an alternative option to wall mounting your basin, Kast can also supply you with a steel frame, powder coated to any RAL colour, customised to the size of your sink. Frame costs are calculated based on the overall size/specification of the basin. If you would like to explore the options available please contact a member of the Kast team.

Care & Maintenance

Concrete is a characteristically hardwearing, resistant material hence it being widely used for so many applications. Concrete however, like any stone, can stain and chip if not treated with care. Our unique system of cement, admixtures, aggregates and pigments along with our specialist sealing process ensures a quality finish. Our sealing system provides the most effective seal whilst maintaining the natural look and feel of the concrete.

To help maintain your Kast Concrete Basin, we provide the following guidelines:

- Avoid leaving any liquids on the surface, especially liquids containing acids or alkali as these may cause erosion to the surface of the concrete. If liquids containing these properties do come into contact with the surface we recommend these are wiped away as soon as possible.

-Avoid leaving any items on the surface that may allow a vacuum to form. Leaving items on the surface for a period of time can cause a difference in surface texture.

-All Kast basins must NOT be rubbed with abrasive materials such as metal pads or wire wool as this may result in scratching and permanent damage to the concrete. When cleaning your basin, Kast advises using a non abrasive cloth and a PH neutral cleaner. Kast basins must not be cleaned with any products containing bleach.

-Avoid impact from heavy objects directly onto the concrete surface. Although concrete is a very durable material the edges are most vulnerable and impact can cause chipping, cracking and in some situations, breakages.

Tap holes

All Kast basins that are designed to include tap holes can be supplied with the tap holes precast unless stated otherwise. Tap holes are an additional charge and the basin cannot be cast until hole size and location has been confirmed by the client. Tap holes must be confirmed at time of order or lead time may be affected. Alternatively basins can be supplied without the holes and these can be drilled on site. Please contact a member of the Kast team who can advise how best to do so.

Overflows

As standard all Kast basins are not designed to include an overflow. If this is a project requirement please contact a member of the Kast team to discuss your custom requirements and the options available.

Warranty

All Kast products have a warranty of 1 year against structural failings. It is advised that all Kast basins are fully inspected within 12 hours of delivery and any issues reported to a member of the Kast team. In the event that there is damage to your concrete basin Kast will recommend the best solution. Due to the nature of the material Kast do not offer refunds.

Specially designed and handcrafted in our factory, each bespoke basin mould is uniquely produced, cast and finished in your chosen colour.

The Kast design team can work in conjunction with their clients to realise their concepts, through detailed drawings and sampling.
