Brisbane German Club News Letter
FEB—MARCH 2015
From the President’s Desk
On Saturday, 28 February at 7.11pm we will have our Karneval night again. An invitation has gone out to the Gold Coast Club to join us again. Last year’s Fancy Dress Party was a huge and wonder-ful night organised by the German Club’s Stammtisch Group. Looking forward to seeing you all there. Regards, Your President Horst Langer
Dear Members and Friends,
First of all, a very happy New Year to everyone. I hope you all had a good holiday. The Board of Directors has already had its first meeting of the year. We decided that the paper copy of the news-letter will be phased out by June 2016. The newsletter will be emailed out to cut postage and printing costs. Members who have no email account can collect a paper copy from the Club. Please make sure the office has your email address.
The Club’s new roof and one of the sails suffered damaged during the big hail storm. The damage is covered by insur-ance. The houses only suffered minor damage. I invite you to attend the Spe-cial Extraordinary Members’ Meeting on Sunday, 8 February at 10am followed by the Ordi-nary Members’ Meeting. We will have Frühschoppen after. Please be aware Cricket is on as well on that day. Parking will be restricted. Our first two months of the year might be a bit quiet until the Football AFL Season starts in early April again.

were very excited, happy and laughed a lot during the pup-pet show. The children then all received a drink and Paula sang with them ‘Jingle Bells’ as Santa arrived and presents were dis-tributed. “Thank you Paula” for all your help. It was a great afternoon for children and parents alike. Our Member’s Christmas par-ty was well attended and we supplied all those lovely Ger-
man Christmas delights again. Thanks to all our members who were supporting us dur-ing the year by buying our raffle tickets. Hoping to see you all at our next Frühschoppen on Sun-day, 8 February 2015. On behalf of the Ladies Group, Dorit
Dear Members and Friends, Hoping you all had a good start in the New Year. At our children’s Christmas Party we had a lot of well-behaved children eager to see Santa. This year we did something different. We or-ganised a puppeteer to enter-tain them. Every child re-ceived a felt-puppet which they could decorate with a little help from Paula and then take it home. They all

wish for on a hot summer night? Thanks to the German Club Board’s support, our Stammtisch Karneval Party will be held in the great hall, invit-ing all 600 visiting Brisbanites from last year and more to dress up, celebrate and dance – without cover charge. And on top of it - we will raffle some great German prizes, so bring your lose change. Creativity rules since there is no common theme. Photos are taken on the night and will be published at various platforms. Don’t forget to book your table early! The Stammtisch celebrated Christmas at the German Club with a full house doing “Schrottwichteln” - exchanging
secret Santa gifts – at our De-cember Stammtisch. Everyone went home with a recycled gift and had some well deserved down time. 2015 is an exciting year for many Stammtischlers as more and more of us are obtaining their Australian citi-zenship and we hope that we’ll make many new friends at our monthly meetings. Find us in the ‘Keller’ on the first Tuesday of every month. All the best for a fantastic new year 2015! Liebe Gruesse, Claudia, Mark and Katrin [email protected]
It’s Fancy Dress Party time! We are digging out our wigs and costumes for the German so called ‘fifth season’ which we will celebrate with you at the German Club on Saturday, 28 February 2014 from 7.11pm until midnight! The German Karneval has many names, faces and tradi-tions in all German and many European regions but for Bris-bane we keep it to the basics – silly season FUN. That means: costumes for the keen ones, Karnevalmusik and German Club delicacies including food and a vast range of beers for everyone and great entertain-ment from the resident musi-cian Andrew. Christel Essebier, who will turn
80 years young.
It is always exciting when our
Conductor, Leo Keller an-
nounces the music he has cho-
sen for the new year. I heard a
rumour that it will have a Ham-
burg theme. The Choir will be
very busy practising for our
Annual Concert in July (Date
TBA in next Newsletter). We
received some sad news recent-
ly. One of our ladies in the
Choir, Heidi Read passed away
on the 2 January 2015. Our
sympathy goes to her Family.
Diana Becker, our Assistant
Secretary has decided to retire
from the Choir and take it easy
in the future. Thank you for all
your hard work over the years
and all the best.
Please join us at our choir
practice and sing along on
Tuesday evenings from 6.30-
