Kara von aschwege (edith)

Kara is a BIG fan of multitasking, so she is beyond excited to be making four debuts at once with this production- Scottish Rite, Art In Relation, Children’s Theatre of Long Beach, AND her first Gilbert & Sullivan!

Originally from Omaha, NE, Kara received a BFA in Music Theatre Performance from Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI. Her career has taken her from the Las Vegas Strip to

Carnegie Hall and around the globe!

Favorite roles include: Cathy (The Last 5 Years), Sara Jane Moore (Assassins), Beggar Woman (Sweeney Todd), Sally (You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown), and Smitty (H2$).

When not on a theatrical stage, Kara enjoys playing the role of front woman in her San Diego-based rock cover band, CHEAP DATE, and vocalist in her acoustic duo, 3 Mile Radius, where she gets to play with her guitarist beau, Chris!

Kara is a recent transplant from New York, where she was fortunate to have performed under Judith Clurman with Essential Voices USA for the NYPops: Rodgers & Hammerstein concert featuring Kelli O’Hara, Paulo Szot and Aaron Lazar.

Thank you to the creative team for taking a chance on the new kid in town, to Steven Schnurman for keeping her voice in shape, and to her family for their endless support. For Dr. Benser, who knew I’d “make my money singing opera, because I’ve got those big cheeks with all that space for resonance.”

anthony Barrios (Pirate “charles dontcomeBacK nunca”)

Anthony is honored and humbled to have been accepted into this cast, and has learned a lot from the diverse experience of these brilliant performers. Anthony is a professional bassist, vocalist, and songwriter who studied at the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood. He built a solid repertoire of

experience in rock bands, Delta Blues, and jazz ensembles in Los Angeles, eventually becoming a hired gun for tours featuring classic pop and soul groups. A fan of musicals since childhood and always up for a challenge, he finally made his way over to a musical theater debut in The Pirates of Penzance.

When he is not performing he enjoys writing, woodworking, and being a father to Hazel. He informally continues studies in philosophy, law, and science while compiling material for at least two books. He is flattered that Sean and Becky would assume he would somehow figure out how to keep up with such accomplished talent.

sara BraKe (constaBle “rocKy shore”)

Sara Brake is so grateful to have the opportunity to appear in this production of Pirates of Penzance. This will be her sixth show with CTLB with previous roles in The

Velveteen Rabbit, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, The Secret Garden, and Twelfth Night. She will be attending Renaissance High School next year, so that she can further improve her acting and singing skills. The cast and crew have worked very hard on this amazing show and Sara hopes you enjoy it.

sara cooPer(constaBle “aPollo shortcaKe”) studied music and theatre at the Orange County High School of the Arts, followed by conservatory with Irvine Valley College. She aims to attend Cal State Long Beach this coming year, for a major in Jazz Vocals. Sara enjoys sushi, ice cream, and long walks to rehearsal - especially if there are cats to pet along the way! She has had a blast being a policeman in this production, and hopes you have just as much fun watching the show!

amBra costanza (daughter)

Ambra was bitten by the acting bug as a Kindergartener when she played a caterpillar morphing into a butterfly in

the elementary school production of Alice in

school and CTLB productions. She has been

the lead in several productions, including

playing Willy Wonka (as a female

character), a narrator in the Velveteen Rabbit, Fiona in Once Upon a Time, and most recently Mary Lennox in

The Secret Garden. When she is not acting or studying for a part, Ambra

enjoys participating in her school band as a percussionist, taking photographs, hanging out with

friends, and dancing “en pointe” with her dance company.

Ferdie directo (Pirate nauseous narwhalson)

Ferdie is thrilled to be part of his second production with Art-In-relation, CTLB & the

Anne Gundry - (Constable Izzy Stumblemore)

Anne, a life-long theatre-goer, found her passion for acting later in life. At the insistence of

her sweetheart, David, she joined an adult

community musical theatre class at the

Jewish Community Center directed by

Sean McMullen. From being too shy to

“sing out, Louise” to belting out songs in

“Working,” Anne was bitten by the acting

bug and the rest is history. Her favorite

roles include Mrs. Medlock in “Secret

Garden,” Miss Spider in “James and the

Giant Peach,” Mrs. Van Daan in “The

Diary of Anne Frank,” and Maria in

“Twelfth Night.” Anne is also a Founding
