My Dear Parents and Students

As a student friendly institution, we at Kaveri strive to give the best quality education,

infrastructure and other facilities to the citizens of tomorrow. The vision of our organisation is

‘Excellence in Education’. At Kaveri, we keep pace with the global changes and challenges and

so provide opportunities to our students to hone their People Skills, Presentation Skills, Business

Skills, Research Skills through various competitions like Paper Presentation in Commerce,

Management and Computer Science. We also provide a platform to the students for enhancing

their Event Management Skills, Leadership Skills and Inter Personal Skills through organizing a

grand Inter College festival ‘YuvaSpandan’.

The parent body of the college, ‘Kannada Sangha’ forayed into the field of education four decades

ago. After establishing the BRAND KAVERI in Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary and Junior

College, the Sangha has started shaping the Kaveri College of Science and Commerce to make

it one of the best Senior Colleges in Pune.

This Prospectus aims at giving you information about our Teaching-Learning Process, Curricular,

Co-curricular and Extra-curricular activities for the students.

The Management

Kannada Sangha, Pune, a Public Trust (registered under the Maharashtra

public Trust Act 1950) was established in 1952. Kannada Sangha Pune was

mainly a cultural organization that promoted camaraderie amongst the

Kannadigas in the city of Pune. With the visionary leadership of late Dr.

Shamarao Kalmadi, late Mr. G. M. Shetty and a group of dedicated and

sincere trustees and members, the Kannada Sangha Pune forayed into the

realm of education with the establishment of Karnataka High School in 1963. In 1965, the

Karnataka High School (both Kannada medium and English medium) was renamed Dr. Kalmadi

Shamarao High School in memory of its founder.

As the educational needs of the city grew, the Kannada Sangha Pune expanded its infrastructure to

set up its other institutions and today, apart from the Kannada Medium High School, it boasts of

having Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary Schools,Junior and Senior Colleges under its umbrella.

The total enrolment in these units is over 6000 students with 500 teaching faculty.

The logo based on the sentiments associated with the River Kaveri, symbolizes the flow of

learning and the depth of knowledge and education that widens the horizons and intellectual

intensity of an individual and society.

KAVERI COLLEGE OF ARTS, SCIENCE AND COMMERCE

The Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce was established in the year 2005. It is

recognised by the Government of Maharashtra and is affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune

University (SPPU). The college is included under Section 2(f) in the list of University Grants

Commission (UGC). This is an unaided college bearing the status of linguistic minority

institution. In the academic year 2016-17, the college received Permanent Affiliation from SPPU

forits under-graduate courses offered under the Faculty of Commerce and Faculty of Science,as

per Section 88 of the Maharashtra Universities Act 1994.

In the year of its establishment, the college started with Faculty of Commerce with a three-year

Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree course. In a short span of two years, the college started

Faculty of Science with Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)B.Sc.(CS)in the year 2007. In

addition, the college started two under-graduate professional degree courses, namely, Bachelor of

Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA)[now renamed as

Bachelor of Business Administration (Computer Application)BBA (CA)] in the same year under

the Faculty of Commerce. In the year 2011, the college established the Post Graduate Department

and started offering Master of Science (Computer Science)M.Sc. (CS)under the Faculty of

Science. In 2014, the college started offering a three-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree course

under the Faculty of Arts.In the year 2016, the college started conducting another three-year

degree course, titled ‘Bachelor of Business Administration (International Business) BBA (IB)

under the Faculty of Commerce. The college has permission of the State Government and also

from the University for conducting the Bachelor of Science (General) degree course as well.

Under its Extension Programmes, the college introduced a one year Diploma Course in

Experiential Education and Practice in 2011. Another programme titled, ‘Post Graduate Diploma

in Early Childhood Education’ has also been introduced since 2014. As a part of value addition

initiative, the college has introduced a Certificate Course in Tally ERP-9 in the year 2014.

In its march towards excellence, the college has taken a major step, as a response to the

suggestions made by the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council)Peer Team in its

report, of starting four centres, namely, Kaveri Skill Development Centre (KSDC), Kaveri

Research and Innovation Centre (KRIC), Kaveri Entrepreneurship Development Centre (KEDC)

and Kaveri Consultancy Cell (KCC) in the academic year 2016-17. Several

community/students/staff-oriented activities are being carried out under these centres.

Aspiring to fulfill the vision of the Management i.e. ‘Excellence in Education’, the college tries to

achieve excellence by providing the students quality education, better infrastructural facilities and

offering numerous opportunities – curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular. At Kaveri, the

impetus is on exposing the students with real life application of the theoretical knowledge.

Furthermore, the Industry- Institute interaction is encouraged to keep the students abreast with

global changes.

DISCIPLINE RULES

1. The students are advised to see all the notices displayed on the different notice-boards (1st

Floor to 7th

Floor) in their interests. Ignorance in this respect is no excuse.

2. The students are expected to strictly follow their time-table. Attendance for all lectures,

practicals, tutorials, tests, examinations etc. and completion of all tasks are compulsory.

3. As per the SPPU rule, 75% attendance for regular lectures is compulsory.

4. Decency and Discipline must be maintained in the campus.

5. Punctuality in all respects is of great importance in the college.

6. Politeness and good manners will be expected from all students towards each other and

towards all members of the staff.

7. The students are required to wear college uniform twice a week i.e. Monday & Thursday.

They are also required to be in uniform during guest lectures, seminars, workshops and

other special occasions.

8. Wearing Identity Card is mandatory in the college campus and it should be produced if

demanded by any of the college authorities in the campus.

9. Smoking, chewing tobacco and use of drugs are strictly prohibited in the college campus.

10. Students must not carry ordinary cell/smart phones during examination. They should keep

phones on silent mode while attending lectures, seminars or any other programmes.

11. Obedience to instructions given by the teachers and other members of the staff is essential.

12. The students are advised to park their vehicles in the authorized vehicles parking space.

13. Students’ co-operation is solicited for keeping the college clean.

14. Fees must be paid as per the notification. The fee is to be paid in cash/cheque/DD. A fine

will be imposed for late payment.

INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES

Library Facilities:

For any educational institution, apart from class room, the library tries to quench the thirst for

information and knowledge. To meet the growing need of this knowledge, the college library

has a comprehensive collection of books, periodicals, magazines, journals, novels etc. The

library also has six operational computers for students. In addition to this, the College also

houses a spacious Reading Hall.

Computer Laboratories:

The College has three well-furnished, sophisticated and spacious computer laboratories.

Equipped with latest computers, software, the Labs are also provided with Internet facility,

server, UPS and Genset Backup.

Electronics Laboratory:

The College has a spacious Electronics Laboratory with scientifically designed work tables

provided with electrical connection for soldering etc. The lab is equipped with the latest

electronic instruments and gadgets.

Mathematics & Statistics Laboratory:

The College has a well-furnished, sophisticated and spacious Mathematics/Statistics

Laboratory. Equipped with latest software, the Lab is also provided with Internet facility,

server, UPS and Genset Backup.

Commerce Laboratory:

In the Commerce Laboratory project work done by the students of the college is preserved.

The project work mainly concentrates on topics or issues related to the world of commerce

and business viz. Recession and its Impact, Accounting Practices, PAN Card, Excise Duty,

Passport, Sales Tax, Opening Bank Account, Functions of Bank etc.

Psychology Laboratory:

The college has a well equipped Psychology Laboratory having all the required tests and

experiments materialsfor the students opting for Psychology Special under the Faculty of

Arts.

Gymkhana Unit:

The Gymkhana Unit nurtures the talent of our students in the sports field, encourages them

and facilitates participation in various sports activities. The college also has a gymnasium

equipped with the latest instruments. This gymnasium has been set up with the financial

assistance from the SPPUunder the Quality Improvement Programme.

Ladies Common Room:

The college has provided a well-furnished ladies common room alongwith the required

additional facilities.

Art Gallery:

In this section, students’ creativity in the field of fine arts gets noticed. Kaveri Wall Journal, a

part of the Gallery, gives scope to the students to express their creative and visual

presentation ability.

Auditorium:

The students of the college are also benefitted by a well-furnished, well-equipped, highly

sophisticated auditorium with a seating capacity of over 500.

STUDENTS’ SUPPORT & PROGRESSION

With well qualified and student-friendly staff members, the college has been receiving positive

response from parents and students community at large. At Kaveri, students are exposed to

various forms of teaching-learning process like lectures, case studies analysis, general

presentation, power point presentation, group discussion, guest lectures, seminars, state and

national level conferences etc.

Our students are benefitted by various schemes with the financial help given by SPPU, carried out

in the college. Few of the schemes are viz. Lecture Series under the QIP, Students’ Welfare,

National Service Scheme(NSS), Soft Skills Development Programme, Bahishal Shikshan etc. The

activities that are conducted under the schemes are designed to bring all round development in the

students and to help them acquire the required life skills.

Apart from the University mandated programmes, the college also carries out certain activities

which are beneficial to the students like programmes conducted by BBA Club, Kaveri Kautilyas,

Kolors of Kaveri, Kaveri Techies Club, Science Association,Placement Cell, Women’s Forum,

Alumni Association, Environmental Forum and Students Forum for Yuva Spandan- the cultural

extravaganza. From the year 2011, the college has started holding the State Level Elocution

Competition in memory of our revered co-founder, Late Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi.

A sound mind requires sound body. To take care of the requirement of having physical fitness of

students, the Gymkhana Unit of the college conducts several events like Chess, Cricket, Football,

Table Tennis, Volley ball, Basketball, Handball and Athletics throughout the year and also

encourages students to participate in several events held at zonal, state, national and international

level. Over the years, students have brought laurels for the college participating at different levels.

The college has a spacious playground. The college also has a gymnasium equipped with the

latest instruments.
