Welcome to our 20th Annual Show and Shine! This event has grown from one to
thirteen city blocks. It started out as Thursday evening show moved to a Saturday day-long event several years later. Moving to Saturday has helped to bring vehicles from all areas of Brit-ish Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Washington State, Oregon and Colo-rado to our event.
This year there will be approximate-ly 350 street rods, American muscle cars, sport compacts, vintage cars and trucks, British and European collector cars, tuners, highway tractors and ve-hicles of special interest, plus the live entertainment on the main stage.
This event would not be possible without the help of our sponsors, the City of Kamloops, Kamloops Busi-ness Association and all the behind the scenes personnel.
The participants are the ones that make the show, the ones that travel to our event and all the locals that enter
their vehicles. We have a group of GTOs coming from the “Goat Herd” out of Oregon. They were at our 15th Anniversary Show and Shine and will once again make the trip up to enjoy the event.
We appreciate all who come down and enjoy the show.
We do ask that everyone respect the time, effort, and nances that go into the vehicles and please be careful when admiring them.
A very special thank you goes to the organizing committee. Everyone on the committee is important to the event, as they all have a job to do and are ef cient at it. These are the people that bring it together.
Also, a thank you to my family for their patience and understanding.
Thank you to everyone who sup-ports Hot Nite and enjoy the show!

Ribfest is back for its third edition this summer. Ribfest runs Aug. 8 to Aug. 10,
from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., in Riverside Park, in conjunction with Hot Nite in the City.
Ribfest is a growing attraction and the Daybreak Rotary Club of Kamloops’ big-gest fundraising event of the year.
The 2012 inaugural Ribfest was a resounding success, raising $40,000 for Kamloops charities. Last year, it raised $60,000 for various youth organizations in the city. With an ultimate fundraising goal of $100,000, Ribfest is expected to grow again this year.
Similar to the rst two years, there will be live music from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
and beer gardens. This year, there will be one more competitor, bringing the ribbers up to six in total. They will serve up ribs, pulled pork and barbecued chicken in this culinary showcase.
A large kid zone will be set up again, with bouncy castles, different booths and special entertainment for children. The kid zone is a free attraction, but donations to the Rotary Club are encouraged so it can bring money back into the community.
st is back for its third edition thismmer. Ribfest runs Aug. 8 to Aug. 10, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., in Riverside Park,

Downtown, Sahali and Valleyview.
As Premier of the Province of Brit-ish Columbia, it gives me great pleasure to extend greetings to the community of Kamloops as everyone comes together for Hot Nite in the City (HNITC).
I understand this year marks the 20th anniversary of HNITC. It is great to see how this event has grown over the years, bringing together not only automobile enthusiasts, but also people of all ages and backgrounds for this fun, family- friendly event. It is also great to know that over the years HNITC Society has been able to donate upwards of $40,000 back into the community.
These donations have gone to support many incredible organizations, helping them to continue to serve the community
and positively impact so many people’s lives.
Thank you to all the event organizers and volunteers for bringing this event to fruition each year. To all those visiting from outside Kamloops, I hope you will enjoy your stay and have a chance to ex-plore some of the great beauty this region of the Province has to offer.
Best wishes for a wonderful Hot Nite in the City!
Sincerely, Christy ClarkPremier

Barry Head purchased this 1966 VW bug
three years ago from Burlington Ontario and had it shipped across Canada.
The bug was original-ly sold in Dallas, Texas in 1966, then sold into Burlington, Ontario in 2006, where it began to be restored.
Barry then purchased the partially restored bug and got busy.
The bug was a lot of work but well worth the time. He had help from
friends including Roy Wall, Dean Russell, Len Donald-son, to complete the project. The reason he picked a VW bug to restore was an easy decision — it was his rst car.

Ric MacDonald of Whistler B.C. took over the care of this car in 1990 as the
third owner. The 1965 Morgan 4/4, chassis # B1120, is a member of Morgan Owners Group Northwest and the Old English Car
Club of B.C. It was created in 1965, being completed on April 29, 1965 for delivery to Sterne Motors of Vancouver, BC. The car spent the next 20 years with the rst owner in the Okanagan before moving to White Rock for ve years with the second owner. During this time the car was repainted a burgundy with black fenders from the original green color. As the car had covered 95,000 miles by this time the engine was tired and needed an overhaul, so a 2000 cc German Ford Pinto motor was substituted for the original 1600 cc English Ford Cortina motor, the larger mo-tor producing more power. Ric has located the original motor and it remains in stor-age. Through the years he has maintained the car; interior re-upholstered in new leather in 2005, the original dashboard and instruments remaining; motor overhauled in 2006; suspension with all bushings, springs, king pins and shock absorbers replaced during the winter of 2011. With rot in the wooden frame worsening, a new frame was ordered from Morgan this past winter. The car was stripped down to the bare chassis and repairs were made to the chassis, and to the body before re-assem-bly. At this time new wiring and various other parts were re-placed as necessary. The car was also being re-painted again in maroon with dark blue fenders.

Gary and Tammy Dillon of Damascus, Oregon purchased this GTO on Memorial Day 2006 after bidding on eBay and winning. This car underwent a full blown restora-
tion, refurbishing everything possible from its past. It started its life as a 1967 Pontiac LeMans, 326 two barrel, 3 speed on the oor. It’s still using that same Dearborn 3 speed. It now sits behind a .030 over 389 with a 2802 Summit cam and a set of worked over #13 iron heads. It is now a GTO tribute car. It has a power cloth top and 1966 Legendary upholstery with custom interior paint and carbon ber touches on its dash and console. The colour is a 1969 colour called Warwick Blue. The body work was done by Goat Herd GTO club member and friend Dave Fornshell, paint by Superior Auto Body in Gresham Oregon and the top and upholstery by Top-n-Trim in Troutdale Oregon.

Ron Popove found a picture of the Nova at the swap meet in Chase in June 2010. He was able to track it down to a garage
in Vernon where it had sat for about 10 years.
After taking his wife over to see it and smelling the exhaust when it was rst red up, they purchased it.
With the help of his son in law, Trevor, they gutted the car and a complete resto-ration was in progress beginning in the spring of 2011.
A two-tone paint scheme was decided on and Trevor took to painting the car. The interior was completely redone including replacing the front bench seat with buckets, new headliner, carpets and dash.
The interior was done by Rudy and Pete at Kamloops Upholstery.
During the winter of 2011 the engine was replaced with a 383 Stroker that breaths with the help of the 2 1/2” Flow-master exhaust. The engine and drivetrain were done by Doug Baird.
They have put about 8000 km on it since the rebuild.

Nick Garrels owns this 1968 Ford Mustang. Originally it was a 302ci automatic with an 8” rear end and manual drum brakes all around. Since purchasing the car seven years
ago Nick has re-done the whole drivetrain. Now the engine is a 302 bored 30 over and has a comp cams 284 cam with substantial cylinder headwork. He also put in a Weiand intake, a holley double pumper carb and a little bit of nitrous. The transmission is a world class T5 5 speed with a ford racing clutch and a hurst shifter. In the rear is a Ford 9” with a nodular carrier 3.90:1 gears and a spool. This car does what Mustangs do best — burnouts! Seven years and 25 pairs of tires later it’s going strong.

Russ Forman had just turned 18 and had purchased himself his dream car — a
1967 Chevelle, beautiful dark blue with a light blue interior, 283 power glide. Behind every beautiful car is a great story, here’s his:
“After getting off work one day my cousin convinced me to drive over to the next small town for some church meet-ings, seems he was interested in a girl over there, of all things.
So we hop in my car and over we go. After the service I was outside showing my car to a buddy of mine when this cute little thing, and I mean little —all 4’ 10 and ¾ inches of her —pulls up in the park-ing lot, after taking her Grandpa’s car for a spin. She walks over to me with the line, “I sure like your car, it sure looks nice.”
I can’t really remember what I said in response. I was just trying to get over the fact that this little hotty in her short little mini-skirt was actually talking to me. Well
my cousin’s romance never took off but the little cute one and mine did.
Three months later we got engaged in the Chevelle and a year later we married.
But being young and not having a lot of money we ended up having to sell her.
Life went on — four kids and 35 years later still missing my car and now my wife was in the position to buy me another one.
So the hunt was on and after two years and a ton of crappy cars I found “Me-linda.”
She is a 1966 Chevelle SS 396 with factory air conditioning, bucket seats, con-sole and factory black vinyl roof and the best part is she is a survivor, having never been restored.
So my beautiful wife of 37 years, knowing I gave up my dream car all those years ago for the sake of our family, bought me an even better one. It is only tting I named her after her.”
-Russ Forman

Dale and Deborah Mo-nahan of Kamloops
purchased this 1969 Impala Convertable in 2007. Dale opted to in-stall a Caprice hideaway headlight assembly on it, cleaned up the rebuilt 327 engine, installed tilt steering, disc brakes and re-chromed the rear bumper and added NOS factory bumperettes.

This is the seventh year since the invasion of the Big Rigs at Hot Nite in the City.
It started as a wish to show Kamloops the other side of trucking and a day the truck-ers could spend together showing their pride. It has grown into an opportunity for us all to understand a little about the person behind the wheel and their love of the road, their truck, and the industry. On Aug. 8 Fountain Tire on the Yellowhead will host the 3rd Annual Friday Night Lights where the night sights and sounds of the trucks are highlighted at 9 p.m. Drop on over after the cruise to enjoy this unique event.
The passion and dedication necessary to participate in a show and shine is obvious. To add the sheer volume of a semi and the year round labour to maintain the working truck at this level is daunting. Truck shows are becoming more common for the work-ing truck. Pro-Trucker Magazine holds the B.C. Big Rig weekend in Chilliwack in July, while Quesnel has the Cariboo Big Rig Show and Shine during Billy Barker Days.
Take a stroll down 5th Avenue and ask
about the specialty trucks. They really are fascinating and they love to share their hard work with you. Enter your name in the draw barrel for a chance to win a prize.
Here’s a glimpse into the lifestyle of a show truck as told by Chester:
From The Bush to the Snow“In my case, I am from Prince George,
B.C. and to make it to the Show N Shine in Chilliwack or Kamloops, it takes a lot of work and a lack of sleep. I usually get all my wheels and tanks polished during the spring thaw when we have time off to get ready for show season.
The truck is usually covered in dust or, worst case, mud so I try to keep up on the washing during the week prior to the show weekend. Once I unload my last load at the mill, I leave for my destination wherever that show may be.
When I arrive, I get all washed up, and that usually takes about 4-5 hours depend-ing on how dirty I was. Once parked at the show I get out the rags and tire shine and polish it all up which takes me another three hours, if I am lucky! Monday, it’s back to the bush.”
When Chester is not busy working or polishing, he is organizing the Cariboo Show. He’s a great example of what this industry is all about.
