HAPPY Thursday! Here are some things you should know.

This Sunday!

This coming Sunday at the 10 a.m. service, and for the second time, Dean Ken will lead the PIANO MASS, which is essentially Holy Eucharist

done in the usual way, but with lots of music, most led by Dean Ken from the piano keyboard.

Most will be familiar with some unique pieces sporadically included. His sermon will explain why he and Kathie are off to South Africa for some

very special work with the Anglican Communion Environmental Network.

If the sermon and the sacrament are the middle of the sandwich, the bread of music will surround us all. Come one, come all. As the folk

hymn says, How can we keep from singing!

Dean Ken

THANK YOU!

Thank you to Cathy Shether for answering the Cathedral phones in my absence! Thank you to Joy Gothard, Connie Burris, Miriam & Barry

Baskin, Verna Albright and Natasha Lyndon for handing out soup while I was on vacation. It was a busy month and I am sure our soup guests

appreciate the friendly faces! It helps to come back to work when you left the place in the hands of such competent volunteers!!!

Into Africa, Again – A meeting of Bishops and Lay Leaders

In my sermon Sunday, I will flesh out in greater detail the purpose and context of an international meeting I will co-facilitate in South Africa. After travel for meetings and some vacation in London and Norwich,

Kathie and I will travel to the Good Shepherd Retreat Centre near Haertbeespoort, South Africa. It was at this very place I began my

environmental justice journey almost twenty years ago. This trip therefore completes a circle. With bishops and other lay leaders from

Southern, Central, Eastern and Northern Africa I will host and chronicle a conversation around adaptation to, mitigation of, and witness to the

realities and challenges of global climate change. It is abundantly clear to myself and others that the church has a vital voice and rich experience to share in such matters. I look forward to

sharing this experience with you when I return on September 30 which will through no accident marks the commencement of our own 2018

Season of Creation here at St. Paul’s. Until then I leave you in the capable hands of many including Bishop Barbara, Gordon Light and

Barb Liotscos and Sandra Sugden. Blessings and justice to you and for all, Dean Ken+
