Kambo is a biomedicine naturally produced by the Giant Monkey Tree Frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor) foundin the Amazon Rainforest. When under stress, this little amphibian secrets a waxy toxin through its skin asa means of protection. For thousands of years, this secretion has been carefully collected by local tribesthroughout the Amazon River Basin for its medicinal and ceremonial value. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Wait a minute, you mean it's poison?" Yes. It may seem strange to “treat” the body with venom, but many modern pharmaceutical therapies aredirectly derived from similar sources. Ziconotide, a non-addictive alternative to morphine, is derived from the venom of the cone snail. Captopril, an ACE inhibitor indispensable for treating high blood pressure, was derived from the venom ofthe Brazilian Pit Viper. The Southeastern Pygmy Rattlesnake and the Saw Scaled Viper have both given us life-savinganticoagulants used to treat heart attack and a range of other clot-related disorders. Exenatide, one of the leading treatments for Type 2 Diabetes, is derived from the venom of the Gilamonster. Reptilase, Defibrase, and Vivostat all come from the Andean Pit Viper. And these are just the synthetic medications that have been approved by the FDA to date. Many othersare still in development or clinical trails. As counterintuitive as it may seem, venom shows more medical promise for a wider range of treatmentsthan any other naturally occurring compound.

Unlike plant-based or synthetic drugs, venom is a highly selective compound. Like a key in a lock, mostvenom compounds have evolved to attack a single particular target, and generally, it won’t hit any othertarget with the same affinity. For this reason, a selective compound is more desirable as a therapeutictreatment because it is tightly targeted, far more potent, and less likely to cause undesired side effects.

When venoms are used to synthesize medicine, individual toxins are separated and then studied to revealthe relevant receptors on human cells. Kambo is special in that it utilizes the whole venom (much like RSO utilizing whole-plant extract). So,rather than singling out one particular peptide for one singular target, Kambo provides a broad spectrum ofhighly selective compounds that target a wide range of individual systems in the body synergistically. Andis one of the only venoms currently understood to do so safely.* Additionally, because of this potent cocktail of bioactive peptides, the human body is uniquel receptive toKambo in a way that is unparalleled in pharmeceutical medicine. Due to a combination of synergeticcompounds, Kambo has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and produce its effects at the level ofthe brain. Unlike synthetic pharmeceuticals, which are often filtered and eliminated by the body’s highly intelligentdefence system, Kambo is able to function at the cellular level because these same compounds are alsocapable of crossing the cell wall relatively unhindered, allwoing human cells to open and access thebeneficial properties of Kambo. In this chemical cocktail, we find peptides that perform hormone-like tasks, while others provide support forvital cellular processes throughout the body. And each one functions in tandem with the others to create aperfectly balanced combination of medicinal effects customized to your physical, mental, and spiritualneeds. Because this medicine is produced naturally, as a force of life moving through the frog, Kambo is viewedas a living medicine with an inborn spirit and consciousness which sets it aprat from the dead components synthesized for pharmeceutical drugs. It is this life force, that allows Kambo to be tailored to your body'sneeds in much the same way that breastmilk is tailored to the needs of a nursing child. When the medicine enters your body the peptides that are needed for your physical and spiritual healingbond to open cellular receptors to facilitate that healing. Those that are not needed are purged with therest of the built-up toxins in your system (because the receptors for those peptides are already saturated). Thus, certain peptides become active and certain peptides become inactive based on your personal bodychemistry to create an entirely unique and personally customized medicine for your exact healing needs. No other medicine currently known has this self-customizing characterisitic.

Phyllomedusins stimulate smoothe muscle, increase gastro-intestinal secretions, regulate the function of neurotransmitters(including dopamine and serotonin), increase permeability of theblood-brain barrier through vasodilation. Phyllokinins relax smoothe muscle, ease gastro-intestinal distress, increase permeability of the blood-brain barrier throughvasodilation, have potent antimicrobial, antifungal properties. Phyllomedusins and Phyllokinins work synergistically to produceKambo's signature purgative effects. Phyllocaeruleins and Sauvegines both stimulate the adrenalcortex and pituitary gland, increase sensory perception, increasetolerance to stressors and depression, interferes with neroreceptorsresponsible for stress, anxiety, depression, and addictive behavior,as well as having potent analgesic (pain relieving) properties. Dermaseptins act as cellular protectants, inhibits angiogenesis tocombat tumor growth, selectively ctyotoxic to cancerous cells, withbraod-spectrum antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungalproperties. Deltorphins and Dermorphins are analgesic opiod receptoragonists that decrease pain and ease withdrawl symptoms. 4000xstronger than morphine and 40x stronger than the body's naturalendorphins. Adenoregulins stimulate adenosine receptors th regulate variouscellular processes involved with depression, stroke, and cognitiveloss disorders (alzheimer's, dementia, parkinsons, etc). Bradykinins and Tryptophylins increase permeability of theblood-brain barrier, are suspected to increase healthy brain functionand increase Kambo's overall effectiveness at the brain level. In this chemical cocktail, we find peptides that perform hormone-liketasks, while others provide support for vital cellular processesthroughout the body which contribute to Kambo's unique ability forwhole-system healing. These biopeptides have aroused a greatdeal of scientific interest and many of them have been successfullysynthesized in the laboratory. But so far, none of these moleculeshave been used in clinical practice. Nor has the synergisticproperties of Kambo been reproduced with the synthetic variants ofthese petides.

KAMBO RELATED DEATHS

To date, there are NO deaths directly linked to the use of Kambo. However, several reported deaths have occured dueto complications with certain illnesses, medications, and chemical imbalances occuring pursuant to ceremony.

Death reported due to immune failure in terminal AIDS patient. Kambo was not directly implicated, but wasproprtedly used sometime prior. Death reported due to catastrophic cardiac event after self-administration of multiple Kambo treatments. Autopsy didNOT correlate the death with the use of Kambo.Death reported due to complications of severe electrolyte imbalance. Overconsumption of water andundernourishment following ceremony is suspected, but not confirmed.

These are the only instances of Kambo related death of which we are aware. In all instances, the medicine itself wasnot attributed as the CAUSE of death, but may be considered a contributing factor due to pre-existing conditions orcontraindications. We believe ALL of these situations were tragically avoidable had the users assumed properadministration of the medicine and adhereance to commonly recommended preparations and practices. For theaverage healthy individual, Kambo poses no inherent healht risks. And for those with health conditions - as with anymedical procedure or treatment - precautions can be taken before, during, and after ceremony to ensure a safe andeffective experience.

Kambo is a ceremonial medicine. As such, it is always applied in a sacred ritual setting. This ceremonyis, in and of itself, part of the healing process... and has been refined of centuries to make the experienceas effective and as potent as possible. To start, your facilitator will open sacre space - often calling in spiritual protectors, guides, healers, andteachers such as ancestors, elements, or the spirit of the frog itself. Once the space is consecrated andcleansed, then the actual ritual will begin. To function most effectively, the medicine must be delivered directly into the lymphatic system. This isacheived by creating "gates"... small burns in the uppermost layer of the epidermis with a smallsmouldering vine. And while this tends to make some people a little nervous, rest assured that if you'veever burned yoru hand on a hot stove you can get through this with no problem. It's really very small andvery mild. After the gates are created, the medicine is applied in small dots over the burns. Once applied, the medicine takes effect almost immediately. Within seconds you will feel hot or flushed.Pressure or pounding in your ears is very common as the medicine sets in, and other symptoms willmanifest very quickly there after, followed shortly by an intense purge. Each experience is a little different, and reaction times vary, but usually the most severe effects of themedicine only last 15-20 minutes, with the entire ceremony generally lasting around one hour. It isintense, but the brevity makes it more bearable.

KAMBO CEREMONYW H A T T O E X P E C T A N D H O W T O P R E P A R E

Page 8: Kambo - Meehl Foundation€¦ · Kambo in a way that is unparalleled in pharmeceutical medicine. Due to a combination of synergetic compounds, Kambo has the ability to cross the blood-brain

Each Kambo experience is unique and different. No two people experience it the same way, and not twoceremonies are ever exactly alike. Your body chemistry and physical/emotional/spiritual needs will be differentevery time you take the medicine. So your journey with the medicine will likewise be a little different eachtime. However, there are some commonalities that generally remain consistent. The following symptoms arethe most common, but this is by no means an exhaustive list:

Vomiting/DiarrheaNauseaFever/ChillsPressure/Pounding in Ears/HeadSweatingIncreased Heart RateIncreased UrinationDizziness/Light-headednessSwelling of the Lips/Face ( "frog face" )Temporary Vision Changes*Shivering/Twitches/Muscle SpasmEmotional Release/DisturbanceMental DisorientationFainting (This is referred to as "frog sleep" and, while very rare, is regarded as an extremely deep healing, often references as a complete reset of your somatic nervous system.)

*Kambo is NOT psychoactive. Meaning the medicine itself does not chemically cuase visions or hallucinations. However, some people do report visionary or spiritual experiences during their ceremonies. You may experience any or all of these (possibly others) during your Kambo ceremony. However, the key toremember is: purging is the point. All of these symptoms are ultimately manifestations of physical andenergetic shifts happening at a cellular and soul level. Purging is what clears the way for these changes totake root and creates a clean foundation for whole-being health moving forward. As uncomfortable as it mayseem, you really do want to purge. Because this is how the medicine works. The purge is also what marks the end of the ceremony. When you stop purging or feeling nasueous, etc., thismeans that the medicine has done its work and your healing is complete for the time being. At this point, themedicine is cleaned off, and you move into integration/recovery. Once the medicine is removed, symptoms usually taper off as quickly as they started. Within 1-2 minutes youshould begin to feel "normal" again. But we encourage people to take as much time as they need to readjust. Again, this process looks a little different for everyone. But often, it is necessary for the body to rest after suchan intense experience. You will be encouraged to lay down, relax, feel into your body, and take a your time toallow your healing to settle in. Sometimes there are lingering symptoms that occur during this phase. To helpsolidify your healing as you come back to your normal self, it is important to take your time and allow yourbody to recover fully. It is a good idea to gently sip additional water during this time. During this time, your shaman will often come around to clean and doctor your gates, which are "sealed" witha tincture of Dragon's Blood. This sacred plant acts as a natural scab to protect and encourage the gates toheal. Because scabs often do not scab on their own, this is an important part of the closing ceremony...signaling the end of the ceremony, but also the "selaing in" of your healing.

PREPARING FOR CEREMONY

Kambo works most effectively if you begin to prepare during the days leading up to your ceremony. Youwant to cultivate a body-mind that is most receptive to the medicine and promotes the smoothestexperience possible. To do so, there are several guidelines you can follow beforek, during, and after theceremony that have been proven to facilitate deeper and more profound healing experiences.

The Days Before (2-3 prior):

Try to eat as cleanly and wholesome as possible in the days leading up to your ceremony. Avoid fried, heavy, or processed food and anything particularly rich or spicy. Focus on remaining well hydrated bydrinking plenty of water, and eating nutrient rich foods. Additionally, adding electrolytes (non-sugar) andliquid minerals to your water/fluids will help prepare your body and keep your mineral intake balanced. Eliminate alcohol and recreational drugs in the days leading up to ceremony, as these can interact with themedicine and often cause a more intense purge. They WILL make the experience more difficult than itotherwise needs to be. This can be difficult for those with active addictions, but rest assured that thepeptides in Kambo are especially adept at treating withdrawal at a physical, symptomatic, and chemicallevel. If you let it, the medicine WILL help. It is also important to note that colonic irrigation, enemas, liver flushes, and water fasting* within 3 days(before AND after) your ceremony is strictly contraindicated. *With the exception of the 3-4 hours you will fast, drinking only water, before your Kambo treatment.

What To Bring:

The systemic purge of Kambo often occurs in stages or waves that have different bodily effects. Assuch, it is recommended that you dress comfortably, and in layers so that you can adjust yourtemperature as necessary (cool towels and blankets are also provided for this purpose). If you have long hair bring a band to tie it back during the purging phase. If you wear contacts, contact lens case with solution added is very helpful in the event that you need toremove your contacts (either due to the effects of the Kambo OR recieving Sananga). Likewise, if you wear glasses, bringing a case with you to protect your frames during the ceremony isadvisable. Once the initial phase is over you will want to be as relaxed and comfortable as possible so a pillowand/or light blanket may be useful. After the ceremony, you should snack on something light to balance your electrolytes, try fresh fruit, juice, or coconut water to sooth your stomach. You may choose to bring a water bottle or jug (although water is typically provided for you). We also encourage participants to bring a journal for recording insights and releases. And anything else that will make you more confident/comfortable during your experience.

Page 10: Kambo - Meehl Foundation€¦ · Kambo in a way that is unparalleled in pharmeceutical medicine. Due to a combination of synergetic compounds, Kambo has the ability to cross the blood-brain

During Ceremony:

The Kambo ceremony will be led by an experienced shaman or Kambo facilitator, who will over see everyaspect of your journey. They may offer insight, perform energetic adjustments, or suggest physical actionsas it appears necessary… such as drinking more water, changing positions, or otherwise aiding the purge. Throughout this process it is imperative that you relax as much as possible, and allow the medicine to doit’s work. You should open your mind to the process and trust in the medicine to guide you whereveryou need to go. Speaking to the spirit of the frog and asking the medicine for its blessings and healing is often very helpful. As is meditating with your breath. Breathe and invite the spirit of the medicine into you, exhale andsurrender your ego, your weight, your wonds, your trauma, your past and your toxicity. Breathe in andsoften to the medicine, breathe out and let go. Holding an objective in mind can often ease this process and make it much easier to fully embrace theexperience by giving your conscious mind something to focus on during the ceremony. This is why weencourage participants to set an intention before beginning ceremony. If at any point during the ceremony you feel "stuck" or otherwise overwhelmed, you should alert yourfacilitator immediately, and they will take or suggest actions to move you through that portion of yourexperience.

Do not eat anything for at least 3-4 hours before ceremony. It is best not to eat anything, and to drink only water or juice for 3-4 hours before the ceremony. You should fast and continue drinking plenty of water. Immediately before the start of the ceremony, drinking a liter of so of room temperature water is standard and customary. At this point you should be concentrating on the journey to come and what you hope to gain from theprocess. Conscious meditation is a good way to prepare emotionally and spiritually for Kambo, invite thehealing in and release any negativity. It is important to set an intention for your Kambo experience to trulyget the most out of it. Remember, it is important to prepare you mind as well as your body. Taking time to cultivate a reverentand receptive mindset will go farther than any other preparations you make in the moments leading up toyour ceremony.

The Day of Ceremony:

- 0 8 -

Page 11: Kambo - Meehl Foundation€¦ · Kambo in a way that is unparalleled in pharmeceutical medicine. Due to a combination of synergetic compounds, Kambo has the ability to cross the blood-brain

Within a day or so, your gates (the superficial burn points where the Kambo was applied) will form smallscabs. Try not to pick, scratch, or knock the scabs off as doing so will slow the healing rocess. You willwant to keep the area dry, except for bathing/showering, and keep abrasive clothing fabrics away from thearea for about one week. If they itch, you can apply some aloe vera which will also help the scabs dry outsooner... thought we recommend simply allowing the body to heal naturally after the application ofdragon's blood in ceremony. You will have anywhere between one and five small burns, which will usually heal and fade with time, though it is important to understand that some types of skin will continue to show small dots months later. Many people see their Kambo scars as a badge of honor for going through this warrior medicine. Additionally, in the days immediately following your Kambo ceremony, it is important to nourish andhydrate your body. Water and electrolyte intake are important to avoid dehydration, but over-hydration canalso be an issue. Many people feel the need to vastly increase their water, but this is not necessary andcan actually cause a dangerous electrolyte imbalance. A light, healthy diet following ceremony will helpsupport you, as well (and add to an optimal pose-ceremony balance of electrolytes/mineral/nutrients).

Integration:

You should be kind to yourself in the days and weeks after your Kambo ceremony, you have gone througha powerful therapeutic process and your body and spirit will need time to rest and recover. You may findyourself more sensitive than normal. Your may continue to experience various purges for several days. Some people report increased urinationor bowel movements. This is completely normal. You may also notice aversions to particular foods, situations, or energies that used to be "normal". Trustyour body and your spirit to know what is right for you. Often times, the things you feel aversion to arethose things which no longer serve you or pose the risk of recontaminating your body-mind.This can bejarring or disconcerting. But it is natural and normal. Do you best. That is all the medicine asks. You may also experience additional emotional releases as your spirit purges the negative experiences, beliefs, and fears that have accumulated over the course of your life. As these memories resurface, allowthem to move through you and be released. Lean into the process with love and compassion for yourself. And if at any point, you feel fearful, confused, or overwhelmed, reach out to you facilitator for support andguidnace. Most of all, be gentle with yourself. Remain aware of your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in thedays prior. And do not hesitate to reach out or ask for any help you feel you need.
