12 years teaching experience in the US on various subjects such as AP Chemistry, Chemistry Honors, Algebra, Physics, Integrated Science, etc. to high school students

Student development

Taught AP Chemistry from 2005 -2008 in Bladensburg High School Maryland .The very first year yielded a pass percentage of 20%.This was because of the individualized differentiated instruction that was done by mentoring promising students outside school hours.

Was a part of the team of teachers who conducted a countywide AP Chemistry review session in May 2006 Was one of the team members tasked to create the mid-term exam paper for PG County, MD in the year 2007.

Innovative technology

Implemented the RAFT (Role, Audience ,Format and Topic) strategy of teaching Science by having students assume the role of an electron.

Used the flipped method of teaching classes by posting Podcasts of new lesson on a website called Edmodo where all students could watch the podcast and get ready for a new lesson next day.

Used various technology strategies like paper slides (students working in groups of 3) to prepare a video presentation of the topic, Educreations (an App using which students can write and read and record a topic), IMovie where students make a movie on the topic.

Even quizzes were made interesting by having them take online quizzes. (Padlet and Kahoot.it) Online treasure hunts fostered the spirit of inquiry and curiosity among the kids.

Collaborative subject matter expertise

Chemistry Collaborative meeting convener – 2012 to 14 Shared some of the podcasts and paper slides with team members and thus use of technology became

widespread in the department. Sometimes paper slides were used as a test grade and since it was a favorite among students it led to an increase in the passing rate by at least 20%

Student development

Started teaching Math and physics for grades 6-8 in 1982 and transitioned to teaching High School Chemistry from 1983 mainly to grades 10-12th.

Taught 11th and 12th grade Chemistry (Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry) with special emphasis on the ISC (Indian School Certificate) syllabus as well as the syllabus for competitive Entrance Exams like IIT (Indian Institute of technology).Specialized tutoring was given to interested students who wanted to test for IIT entrance. As a result on an average about 10% of the students secured admissions in well renowned engineering colleges like IIT every year.

Academic Excellence

Audio visual techniques were used to teach most concepts. Wherever possible students were actually shown the models that we are talking about .Students would also listen to lectures from famous professors about the topic at hand.

Students practiced Close Reading strategies and were asked to take turns and read in class. Wherever possible Science labs were conducted. The 11th and 12th grade students had regular weekly labs of 3 periods (Approximately 3 hours) Regular annual Science fairs were conducted where important Chemistry demos were set up at various

stalls with students conducting the demos like vanishing ink, color changes by indicators, Electrolysis of water and such like.

Collaborative Subject matter development/expertise Conducted Chemistry workshop for all teachers in Hyderabad, India while teaching in The Hyderabad
