THE ORIGINAL DEFINITION OF THE

TERM TECHNOLOGY

The term technology comes from two (2) Greek words techne and logos.

Techne means art, skill, craft or the way, manner or means by which a thing is gained.

Logos means a word, a saying or an expression.

Therefore technology means words or discourse about the way things are gained.

KALINAGO TECHNOLOGY

(BASKET WEAVING)

The Kalinago used Larouma Reeds (

scientifically known as Ischosiphon

arouma) to build their baskets.

This reed was originally found in

South America and brought to the

Caribbean.

ALL ABOUT THE REEDS

The stems/reeds are

cut 12-15 feet in

length and placed in

the sun to dry until

they turn to a

reddish brown

colour.

Reeds are coloured

black by placing

them in a pit of mud.

To obtain the colours

white or cream, the

underside of the

reeds are used.
