The 39th Annual CCA Competitive Exhibition will be on display February 13 through March 28,
representing all local and regional artists, 18 years and older. All accepted works will be displayed in the
First Floor Main Gallery (HAMPTON GALLERY and THE KENNETH & KRISTI BLIZZARD
GALLERY) and all unaccepted works will be displayed in the Second Floor Galleries (MINGES
GALLERY & RAYNER GALLERY). Four (4) Cash Place Awards and five (5) Non-cash Merit Awards
will be presented. Awards will be posted on our website www.kinstoncca.com Friday, February 14,
2020.
BARRUS GALLERY — CASWELL DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER ARTISTS — In March
we will be celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month by featuring artwork created by
Caswell Center residents. Artwork will be on display in the Barrus Gallery of the Arts Center. The
Caswell Developmental Center provides services to people with mental and physical disabilities and
has been in operation for more than 100 years as the State’s oldest residential facility for disabled
citizens. We thank the Center’s participation and look forward to showing these special works of art.

Calling Young Artists — A part of the mission of the Community Council for the Arts is to serve artists of
all ages — aspiring, professionals, hobbyists, and academics. The arts not only allow us a creative outlet, but
also inspire critical thinking skills that help us in decision making and problem solving throughout our lives. If
you know of other young artists who are seeking venues to exhibit their artwork or guidance in developing their

Stop by and visit Queen Street Deli which features the artwork of local artists. Featured in
February is the work of Madelaine Gray. Artwork on display is available for sale. The Queen Street

Kinston Jazz TAPS group
(Traditional Arts Program
for Students) — This group
meets each Wednesday, at
4:00 p.m. at the Arts Center.
TAPS is the only after-school Jazz
mentorship program in North Carolina and
is for middle school, high school and early

Lenoir County Artist League (LCAL) meets at the Arts Center on the first Tuesday of the month, September through
May. There is a small annual membership fee to join. The League is open to all local artists working in
two-dimensional and three-dimensional media in all genres. The LCAL has an annual juried exhibition at the Arts
Center, which runs from November to January. The goal as a group is to promote educational programming and a
critique environment for the membership. Call the Arts Center for more information — 252-527-2517.

UMBRELLA ORGANIZATIONS K.A.R.M.A. (Kinston Area Railroad Modelers
Association) meets every Tuesday evening from 6:30
p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m. at the Arts Center. Model trains run the
first and fourth Saturdays of each month from 11:00
a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Call the Arts Center for more

The Downeast Woodturners Association is an active group for craftsmen, artist and novices sharing and increasing
their knowledge of turning objects on a lathe. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at
the Community Council for the Arts, 400 North Queen Street in Kinston. They offer demonstrations on the 4th
Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, call the Arts Center — 252-527-2517

If interested, join them in the Adult Painting Studio of the Arts Center the second Tuesday of each month.
The next Illusions, Open Mic Night, will be February 29, 2020. Join us for an evening filled with poetry,
singing and some jazz. All are invited to attend this laid back show held at the Arts Center. Doors open at
8:00 p.m. and the show runs from 8:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. The show is $10 and there is a fee of $8 for
Open Mic talent. See you at the next Open Mic Night! Mark you calendar for future dates: March 28 (11th
Anniversary) and April 25.

This workshop offers a “twist of life” coaching accompanied with art healing components. It
provides evidence-based practices, life coaching techniques and the ability to express yourself
artistically while tapping into the best version of yourself! This workshop includes a Walking in Purpose with a Passion Inspirational Self-Help Guide/Journal to document your progress on a journey to achieve your ultimate life goals. Workshop Session Price: $35 per
person. A donation of $5 will be given to the Community Council for the Arts for each participant that attends the Walking in Purpose
with a Passion workshops. This workshop will be facilitated by Clevette "Chyna" Roberts, Certified Professional Life Coach, CSAC-R &
Artist who has facilitated workshops and group sessions for the Special Forces Division in Fort Bragg, The G.A.T.E., The Church of Faith
& Deliverance, local churches, mental health providers, etc. Ms. Roberts expresses her determination to help others become the best
version of themselves while implementing life coaching techniques seasoned with all genres of art.

Raney is an artist and teacher who lives and paints in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She also resides in the smARTkinston neighborhood. Raney has received
numerous awards and exhibited her art in many galleries around the world. She is the owner of Acorn Gallery in West Jefferson, North Carolina.

“Amaryllis”
The Arts Center is pleased to host art party sessions with Raney Rogers, fine artist and owner
of the Acorn Gallery in West Jefferson, North Carolina, and manager of smARTkinston Gallery
in Kinston on Queen Street. Raney has been offering painting workshops at the Arts Center for
several months, has her artwork in the Galleria Gift Shop, and has entered several exhibitions
at the Arts Center, many prior to moving to Kinston. Classes with Raney are packed with
laughter and great fellowship and are a fun-filled and stress-relieving way to allow your
creativity to flow, whether you have experience painting or not. All classes are $35 per person
and include all materials to paint your very own take home masterpiece! Participants are
invited to bring wine and treats if desired. The party sessions are great for a girls’ night out,
special event party, couple’s evening, teen/parent time, etc. Come join the fun!! Registration
