PLAYER INTRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

One measure of success for a club is the development of it’s junior players into senior players that continue to play for theClub. To facilitate this it’s important for a club to have multiple teams in multiple grades (both competitive and casual) thatenable each club member to play the standard of hockey they enjoy.

With this in mind, a recent initiative by the club has started where selected junior players from both Kalamunda andMazenod College have been invited into the senior teams to play a couple of matches during the year. By doing thisplayers are introduced to future team mates, they get to play a senior match or two and they are involved in all the preand post match discussions as if they were a regular player. They are also invited to train with the seniors so they canfurther build their skills and contacts, making the transition into seniors (both on and off the field) simpler.

To date, Tim Meier from our Junior 9/10 Promotion A Boys team has played two games for the Provisional 2’s (andscored their first goal of the season), Matthew van Eck, who is a Mazenod Player, has played one game in the Provisional2’s and Cody Eva, also a Mazenod player, has played with the Promotion 1 team.

As discussed, this initiative has only just commenced, so even though the girls aren’t mentioned it is our goal that both themen and ladies teams invite junior players from the club and other clubs (where applicable) to a couple of matches eachyear. Given team sizes, junior players will need to work in with Senior coaches as to when they can play so thatregistered senior players receive the game time they deserve.

As a club one of our key objectives is to improve our junior and senior players’ skills, fitness and mental preparedness sothey can perform at their best. This development initiative supports this objective.

KALAMUNDA BOYS 7/8 B GOLD MATCH REPORT 10/05/14

With a full complement of 14 players the Kala 7/8’s took to the field at Hartfield Park against many former team matesnow playing in the Mazenod side.

The first half was played at quite a fast pace with the Mazenod team racing away to a 5-0 half time lead. Maybe it wasthe self determination to turn things around in the second half or maybe it was the promise of chocolate from Tricia, either way it was a different story after half time.

ONCE A KALA BOY, NOW A KOOKABURRA

Tyler Lovell, son of Tricia and Brian Lovell (club stalwarts), has been chosen to play in the

Australian team this year at the World Cup. For many hockey players, attaining a position in

the Australian team is the pinnacle of their sporting career. But what about the journey?

PLAYER PROFILE

As a goalkeeper and twin, Tyler played alongside his brother Mathew at their local Perth hockey club Kalamunda from theage of five. At the age of 15, he transferred to his now club YMCC to play in Western Australia premier division. While atKDHC he represented the club in the State Regional U13’s & U15’s and WA in the State U15’s.

As well as coaching juniors, he also played with our Senior Men’s sides from an early age. His Sister also representedKDHC at a Regional level and is currently playing with our newly formed Ladies Turf side, while coaching H2H on Satur-day mornings.

Tyler then went on to represent the State at U17’s and U21’s and while Head Boy at Forrestfield Senior High School, nowDarling Range Sport College, he represented Australia in the School Boys tour of South Africa. Tyler went straight fromcompleting high school to working full time in the sales and marketing industry. Currently working for RMEM Engineering, sales and marketing is something that he wishes to continue with life after hockey.

Tyler was heavily involved in cricket during his childhood/teens summers for Forrestfield and Perth cricket club. He stillenjoys cricket and also joins fellow teammates and friends for a round or two of golf when possible.

KALAMUNDA BOYS 7/8 B GOLD MATCH REPORT 10/05/14...CONT

With some strong team play from the Kalamunda team right across the field, it wasn’t long before we put our first goal onthe scoreboard courtesy of Julia Casella with many cheers from the sidelines.

Determined to add to our tally the Kalamunda team lifted another notch and managed to spend most of the second half inour attacking half. Elliot Neylon added two further goals to our tally and with our goalie Molly George deflecting many ofMazenod’s shots on goal, Kalamunda won the second half and a double helping of chocolate after the game.

The final score was a 7-3 win to Mazenod

Our Club is still needing a Club Secretary and Umpiring Co-Ordinator. They are volunteerpositions (as they all are) and are vital to the smooth operation of the committee and club.We encourage you to enquire about the positions on a no obligation to take them up basis.

Once you see the level of commitment required and duties to perform, we expect you’ll seeeither role is not too difficult to do.

Neither position requires you to be a current player, hence associates of the club are also welcome. Please contact one of the clubs committee representatives for further information on the roles.

The club appreciates your attention on this matter and your assistance in recruiting for the twopositions.
