A palengke is a type of public market commonthroughout the Philippines.
The word palengke is a local variant spelling of theSpanishword palenque, literallymeaning "(wooden)palisade or stockade" and by extension the areaenclosed by such a structure for defines, publicfestivals or some other purpose.
A palengke is usually composed of several dozenstalls arranged in rows under a shared roof.Management is usually by the local governmentalunits whose jurisdiction encompasses the physicallocation of the markets.

By way of paying tribute to the late MarioParial, this issue of Kairos will feature aselection of photos fromMario Parial's exhibitentitled "The Peripatetic Process of Parial'sPainted Photographs".
"Art pieces rendered by a visual artist are justanother form of art expression", according toParial (Philippine Daily Inquirer, September16, 2012 edition).
"I found some of my negatives from as early as1973, printed them in the darkroom andpainted on themwith acrylic, pastel and pencil, crosshatches with felt tip markers and papercollages, and other found medium, renderingphotographs finished with techniques Ideveloped as a painter and from my earlyexperience with the printmakingprocess." A Sunday atHacienda LuisitaAnwrdn Macaraig Hacienda Luisita is a sugar plantation located in the
province of Tarlac, Philippines, owned by the Cojuangcofamily, which includes the late formerPresidentCorazonC. Aquino and her son, incumbent President Benigno S.Aquino III. The hacienda spans various municipalities inthe province, including the capital Tarlac City.(Wikipedia)
"Hacienda Luisita has long been a symbol of the failureof land reform programs in a nation that suffers from asharp division between rich and poor." (AFP,Inquirer.net August 3, 2013)
We arrived at around noon time and a medical missionwas being held there at a multi-purpose area sometimeinDecember of2011. Thenweproceeded to takephotosat the nearby rice field and to the‘picket line’ andfinally near the Central Azucarera de Tarlac where in2004, 14 people were killed and hundreds injured in aclash between protesters and the police (Wikipedia).
The photos are my impressions of the place.

Million PeopleMarch
The Million People March is the first of an ongoing series ofprotests in the Philippines calling for the total abolition of thePork Barrel fund, triggered by public anger over the PriorityDevelopment Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam. Initial callscirculated through social media (mainly on Facebook andTwitter) to convene a protest on August 26, 2013 at LunetaPark in Manila as well as other cities nationwide and overseas. Some media commentators consider this as the first evermassive rally in the Philippines called and organised mostlythrough social media channels. (Wikipedia)
On November, 2013, the Supreme Court of the Philippinesdeclared PDAF as unconstitutional.
A glimpse of the protest.

Wawa DamMark Valle Dumandan
WawaDam(alsoknownasMontalbanDam) is agravitydamconstructed over the Marikina River in the municipality ofRodriguez inRizal province, Philippines. The slightly archeddam is situated in the 360-metre (1,180 ft) highMontalbanGorge or Wawa Gorge, a water gap in the Sierra MadreMountains, east of Manila. It was built in 1909 during theAmerican colonial era to provide the water needs forMetroManila.
It used to be the only source of water forManila until AngatDam was built and Wawa was abandoned. Due toinsufficiency of water supply for Metro Manila, there was astrong clamor to reuse the dam. (Wikipedia)

Many times, what we see in others' faces or demeanor arenot real. We don't realise this becausewe believe onlywhatappears before our eyes. We fail to see beyond an exteriorthat tries to hide a less pleasant reality. Or on the flip side, maybe a wonderful instance suppressed by an outwardappearance of cheerlessness.
A cheerful mood to conceal a hurting soul. A sweet smile todisguise an evil thought. A calm voice to...
Wait, these are just images of hackneyed walls and closeddoors. What am I talking about?!
Maybe I'm just the cynicwhobelieves that every face put uptome is but a deceptive front. Ormaybe, this is just a facadeI myself am putting up in an effort to show a semblance ofphotographic artistry.
Whatever. Tome,my thoughts and these images are simplya beautiful happenstance.
