Product Installation

Pre-Installation Tasks

As with other flight simulator add-ons, pre-instal-lation precautions should involve closing any open applications, as well as temporarily disabling any active antivirus software.

Failure to temporarily disable antivirus software when installing may result in a non-functioning product and/or simulator!!!

Beginning Installation

After purchase, this product may be supplied as a compressed (.zip) file. This compressed file con-tains an executable (.exe) file, which is the installer for the MilViz KA350i.

Using the Windows File Explorer or file compres-sion utility of your choice, unzip this file to a loca-tion of your choosing.

Once unzipped, you may begin installation by right clicking on the executable (.exe) file, then select-ing “Run as administrator”. The installer will run, showing an initial welcome screen. Left click on the “Next” button to continue.

Prerequisites Setup Wizard

The installer will first run a process that checks for missing components that are needed for the KA350i to function.

Clicking ‘Next’ when prompted and following any prompts within the component installers will en-sure that these components are installed and cor-rectly configured for use.

KA350i Setup Wizard

After clicking ‘Next’ on the welcome screen, our installer will require the serial number you received at time of purchase. Entering this will then register your aircraft. This helps to ensure that only legiti-mately purchased copies of the KA350i are in use.

The setup wizard will then determine the cor-rect location for installation. If incorrect, this can changed. Please note that the MilViz KA350i only supports Prepar3D version 4.

Clicking ‘Install’ at the Ready to Install screen will proceed with the installation of the KA350i.

MVAMS Setup Wizard

Once the aircraft files are finished being installed, the installer will automatically run the MilViz Ad-don Management System (MVAMS) Setup Wizard.

The MVAMS application has been bundled with our new aircraft for the last few years, but this wizard ensures that it is properly installed for use with your aircraft.

Post-Installation Tasks

Please be sure to revert your antivirus program settings back to their previous state. Also please make sure that your P3D directory is off-limits to any automatic antivirus scanning. Failure to do this may result in a non-functioning simulator!

It may be worthwhile to back-up or save a copy of the downloaded installer. Please be aware that as new updates are released over time, we do not continue to offer older versions for download due

to support issues. Please also note that support is intended for the latest releases of our products only.

Uninstalling the KA350i

The MilViz KA350i must be uninstalled through the use of the Programs and Features window within the Windows operating system.

Note: Prior to uninstalling the aircraft, please be sure to back up any customized files or custom liv-eries you have installed if you wish to keep them.

Updating

The KA350i is updated by one of two methods, with minor update notifications delivered through the MVAMS application, and major update notifi-cation being provided by your vendor.

To check for a minor update, open the MVAMS application via the MVAMS icon which has been placed on your desktop. If a minor update is avail-able, a notification will appear here. Click yes to begin the update process, which largely mirrors the install process. Major updates may require a new version of the aircraft to be downloaded and installed.

Simulator Configuration

Options - RealismMilViz aircraft are developed with an overall goal of replicating a realistic level of accuracy in regards to operation and flight response. To this end, devel-opment and testing are generally carried out using the highest realism settings available within the simulator.

Overall, the realism settings within Prepar3D exist in order to make simulated flying less of a chore, as well as to remove some of the tasks which are nec-essary in real life to ensure a safe and proper flight. Our intent is not to discourage such use, but only to ensure that the user has the means to enjoy the aircraft to the level at which it was designed.

Flight ModelFor correct operation, all sliders in the flight model section should be set fully to the right.

Instruments and LightsThe MilViz KA350i has a sophisticated lighting sys-tem in place, so the “Pilot controls aircraft lights” should be checked. “Enable gyro drift” and “Display indicated airspeed” may be left to user preference.

Crashes and DamageThe choices in this section may left to user prefer-ence.

EnginesAll three checkboxes in this section must remain unchecked for correct operation.

Special EffectsThis may be left to user preference.

Flight ControlsFor the most realistic flight experience, “Autorud-der” should not be selected.

AttachmentsThese should remain unchecked.

Options - InformationThe only option of concern in this section is con-cerning ‘User Tips’. There exists an issue in Pre-par3D where if the aircraft uses custom code to handle fuel flow (as the KA350i does), then an in-

correct tip will display to the user that the fuel is low.

To prevent this from showing, please deselect this option, located in General/Information/Miscella-neous Text.

MVAMS Overview

MVAMS stands for MilViz Addon Management Sys-tem. It is a standalone application used by many of our product releases which represents our us-er-friendly solution to the growing complexity of options and choices available within our aircraft. It provides a central location to manage your air-craft, as well as providing incremental update ca-pabilities.

If not already present, the MilViz KA350i installs, and fully integrates with, the MVAMS application. This allows the user access to a range of configu-ration utilities specific to this aircraft.

Starting MVAMS

If this is your first MilViz product that includes the MVAMS application, the KA350i installer will have ran the installer for MVAMS, which will place a shortcut icon on your desktop. If this is not your first MVAMS equipped MilViz product, the shortcut icon may already exist on your desktop. This icon will open the MVAMS application. In addition, the installer will open automatically run MVAMS once installation is complete.

MVAMS Location

The installer places the MVAMS application folder and related files within the AppData\Local\MVAMS folder. If your desktop shortcut is deleted or is oth-erwise missing, the application may be launched from this folder.

Selecting Your Aircraft

When you open the MVAMS application, you are presented with a pictorial view of all MVAMS-compatible aircraft installed on your computer. The configuration details for any aircraft may be

shown by clicking its image with the left mouse button. Your newly installed KA350i will be avail-able in this list for selection.

If it is desired to set the configuration options for more than one aircraft, the aircraft selection menu can be accessed by clicking the logo/icon at the top left corner. Note that leaving the current air-craft configuration page without saving will result in the loss of any options changed or selected.

The aircraft selection overview is not available if

there is only a single MilViz aircraft installed.

Aircraft Specific Details

Each individual aircraft represented within MVAMS has it’s own unique set of configuration options available which determine how the aircraft loads within the simulator. If there are many configura-tion options available, the options are organized into a series of tabs to group similar or related op-tions together. Tabs may be moved between with-out loss of selections or changes made.

Page 11: KA3 5 0 - MILVIZ · 2019-12-21 · MilViz KA350i 2-1 Product Features > Designed primarily for procedural flight training, the MilViz KA350i repre- sents the most advanced overall

6-2MilViz KA350i‘Load’ Tab

The KA350i has a configurable loadout for passengers, fuel, and cargo/bag-gage, configured on the ‘Load’ tab. A series of textboxes are displayed where a desired weight may be input, as well as a pictorial representation of the aircraft cabin to assist the user in making choices about how the aircraft is loaded.

‘Options’ Tab

The ‘Options’ tab for the KA350i consists of configuration for the state of the aircraft systems when the simulator is loaded, allowing the user to tailor the start-up experience to their liking.

The sound levels are customizable; the option exists to sync the KA350i sound with the simulator, or to manually adjust volume of the cockpit, internal en-gine, or external engine sounds.

The MilViz KA350i also tracks the health of the aircraft engines. Engines may be harmed through mishandling, as well as accumulate normal wear. Such damage and wear is persistent across simulator sessions, and can be reset here while the simulator is not running.

‘Show/Hide Items’ Tab

This tab contains initial display settings for the wheel chocks, the engine cov-ers, and the pitot covers. Selecting these allows for these items to be visible when the aircraft is loaded.

Saving and Closing MVAMS

To save any changes or selections made, click the ‘Save Defaults’ button lo-cated at the bottom of the screen (Note: If the aircraft is loaded while you access MVAMS, it will be required to reload the aircraft before most changes made will be present in the simulator.)

To close the MVAMS application, click on the ‘X’ in the top right corner. Note that closing MVAMS without saving will result in the loss of any options changed or selected.

Page 12: KA3 5 0 - MILVIZ · 2019-12-21 · MilViz KA350i 2-1 Product Features > Designed primarily for procedural flight training, the MilViz KA350i repre- sents the most advanced overall

6-3MilViz KA350iEngine State: Explained

As previously mentioned, the KA350i tracks and saves the health of the en-gine. This information is displayed to the user in the form of a pair of status bars in the ‘Options’ tab in the MVAMS application, as shown to the right.

It’s important to note that this bar decreases through wear accumulated dur-ing normal operation. From perfect condition, a full bar depleting to an empty bar represents approximately 100 hours of operation. After that point, the air-craft engine is extremely likely to fail during the next session. At any point prior to this, the aircraft may be ‘serviced’ by pressing the ‘Restore’ button to bring the aircraft to perfect condition. Please note that the simulator must be closed before the engine can be restored.

In addition to normal wear accumulating during regular use, engine wear can be accelerated by operator error and general mishandling of the aircraft engine. Exceeding any of the engine instrumentation limits will reduce the hours-to-service, with ITT over-temperature being one of the most serious.

This increased engine wear, if not monitored and acted upon, is capable of causing an unexpected engine failure. Should an engine failure occur, the only method for ‘fixing’ the failed engine is by closing the simulator and using the option within MVAMS to restore the engine to good condition.

Some of the situations that can cause greatly accelerated engine wear are:

» ITT exceedance at startup (30 or more seconds until failure) » Engine overtorque, such as full power with a feathered propeller (6 or 7

seconds until failure)

Remember, when in doubt, stay within the limitations indicated on the instru-mentation!

Systems & Controls Overview

General Overview

The KA350i is a twin-engine, all-metal, low-wing monoplane, with fully canti-levered wings and a T-tail empennage.

Seating may be provided for up to 17 persons, including crew.

Control Surfaces

The airplane is equipped with conventional ailerons and rudder, and utilizes a T-tail horizontal stabilizer and elevators mounted at the top of the vertical stabilizer.

The ailerons and elevators are operated through interconnected convention-al control wheels. The rudder pedals are interconnected via linkage located below the floor. Elevator, aileron, and rudder trim are adjustable via controls mounted on the center pedestal.

Control of the elevator trim is accomplished manually by rotating forward (nose-down trim) and aft (nose-up trim) the trim control wheel located on the left side of the pedestal. Electric control of the elevator trim is done through a thumb switch on each control wheel along with a trim disconnect switch on each control wheel.

Rudder Boost

Rudder boost is enabled by setting the pedestal mounted control switch to the RUDDER BOOST position and the AP/YD DISC bar in the up position.

This system senses engine torque from both engines; if the difference in torque exceeds a certain level, the electric servo is activated in order to assist the pilot. An amber caution annunciator, RUD BOOST OFF, is provided on the Caution/Status annunciator panel to indicate that the system is not operat-ing due to the control switch being in the OFF position or the trim disconnect switch being pressed.

Annunciator System

The annunciator system consists of a warning annunciator panel located in the center of the glareshield, and a caution/status annunciator panel locat-ed on the center subpanel. The indicators on the warning annunciator panel are red, while the indicators on the caution/status panel are amber (caution), green (advisory), and white (status).

Also part of the system are the pairs of red MASTER WARNING and amber MASTER CAUTION flashers located on the glareshield, as well as a PRESS TO TEST button located to the right of the warning annunciator panel.

If any triggering fault requires immediate attention and a reaction by the pilot, the appropriate red warning annunciator will illuminate and both red MASTER WARNING flashers will begin flashing. The flashers may be extinguished by pressing the face of either flasher. They will then stop flashing until an addi-tional warning annunciator illuminates.

When a triggering fault requires pilot attention and possible future action, an appropriate amber caution annunciator will illuminate and both amber MAS-TER CAUTION flashers will begin flashing. The flashers may be extinguished by pressing the face of either flasher. They will then stop flashing until an ad-ditional caution annunciator illuminates.

Green advisory annunciators signal that an operation initiated by the pilot was successful and do not require immediate pilot alerting or action. White status annunciators indicate the presence of a normal or abnormal condition and also do not require immediate pilot alerting or action. Green and white annun-ciators do not have a corresponding master flasher.

Flaps

The flaps are operated through the use of a sliding handle on the center ped-estal located below the condition levers. Flap travel is shown on an indicator located on the top of the center pedestal. The flap switch has three positions: UP, TAKEOFF AND APPROACH, and DOWN. The flaps are not able to be stopped in any other position than the three indicated.

Page 19: KA3 5 0 - MILVIZ · 2019-12-21 · MilViz KA350i 2-1 Product Features > Designed primarily for procedural flight training, the MilViz KA350i repre- sents the most advanced overall

9-2MilViz KA350iLanding Gear

Landing gear on the KA350i is extended and retracted hydraulically by means of a switch placarded LDG GEAR CONTROL- UP - DN located on the pilot’s right subpanel.

Safety switches prevent the LDG GEAR CONTROL from being raised while the airplane is on the ground. This safety mechanism can be overridden by use of the red DOWN LOCK REL button located to the left of the LDG GEAR CONTROL. If the LDG GEAR CONTROL is moved out of DN while the airplane is on the ground is, the landing gear warning horn will sound intermittently and a red indicator light located in the LDG GEAR CONTROL will illuminate.

Visual indication of landing gear position is provided by individual green GEARDOWN annunciators NOSE - L - R on the pilot’s right subpanel. These green annunciators may be checked by pressing the annunciator.

Landing Gear Warning System

The landing gear warning system warns the pilot that the landing gear is not down and locked during specific flight regimes. Depending upon the position of the flaps, various warning modes will occur.

With the FLAPS in either the UP or APPROACH position and either or both power levers are retarded below approximately 85% N1, the warning horn will sound and the LDG GEAR CONTROL lights will illuminate. The horn can be muted by pressing the GEAR WARN SILENCE button located on the left power lever. The lights in the LDG GEAR CONTROL cannot be extinguished. If the power lever(s) are advanced above approximately 85% N1, the warning system is rearmed.

With the FLAPS beyond APPROACH position, the warning horn and LDG GEARCONTROL lights will be activated regardless of the power settings, and neither can be cancelled.

Brakes

Dual hydraulic brakes are operated by depressing the toe portion of either the pilot’s or copilot’s rudder pedals. The parking brake control is located below the pilot’s left subpanel. The parking brake is applied by pulling out the park-ing brake handle, and may be released by pushing the parking brake handle in.

Propulsion System

The propulsion system is operated by three sets of controls; twin power levers twin propeller levers, and twin condition levers, with each lever corresponding to the engine on that side of the airplane.

Power Levers

The power levers enable control of engine power from idle through take-off power via the gas generator (N1) governor in the fuel control unit. Increasing gas generator (N1) RPM increases engine power.

Propeller Levers

Each propeller lever directly adjusts the propeller governor of the respective engine in order to increase or decrease propeller RPM. While in flight, the op-erating range of the propellers is 1450 to 1700 rpm.

Condition Levers

The condition levers control the fuel cutoff function of the fuel control unit, along with limiting idle speed at 62% N1 for low idle and 70% N1 for high idle. Each control lever has three positions; FUEL CUTOFF, LOW IDLE and HIGHIDLE.

Propeller Ground Fine Operation

Propeller ground fine operation provides optimum deceleration wile the air-plane is on the ground during landing by utilizing the maximum available pro-peller drag. Operation is achieved through a gate position for the power levers, retarded past IDLE into the GROUND FINE gate.

Propeller ReversingThe power levers, when retarded past the IDLE and GROUND FINE positions, provide engine power in the REVERSE range. Setting the condition levers at HIGH IDLE (70% N1 minimum) provides for maximum reversing performance.

9-3MilViz KA350iEngine Instrumentation

Engine instruments are displayed in the upper area of the MFD. Along with in-corporated green, yellow, and red operating ranges and time limit monitoring of each range, these give the pilot a visual indication of engine parameters. The following engine instrumentation is displayed:

» ITT indicators » Torquemeters » N2 (propeller) tachometers » N1 (gas generator) tachometers » Fuel Flow indicators » Oil Temperature & Pressure indicators

Propeller Synchrophaser

The propeller synchrophaser system serves to match the RPM of both propel-lers at a preset phase relationship in order to reduce cabin noise. It may be used in all flight operations.

To engage the synchrophaser system, manually set each propeller RPM to within 10 RPM of each other, then turn the prop sync switch to ON.

Starting & Ignition System

The engines are started through the use of a three position switch located on the pilot’s left subpanel placarded, IGNITION AND ENGINE START - LEFT - RIGHT - ON - OFF -STARTER ONLY. Moving the switch to the ON position activates both the starter and ignition, and the appropriate IGNITION ON an-nunciator will illuminate. The starter is stopped by moving the switch to the center OFF position. The STARTER ONLY position is used to motor the engine without ignition.

Auto Ignition

The auto ignition system is used to prevent engine loss in the case of com-bustion failure. This ensures constant ignition during turbulence or flight in icing or precipitation conditions.

Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS)

The electronic flight instrument system consists of three 8” x 10” adaptive flight displays (AFD), provided as two primary flight displays (PFD) and one multifunction display (MFD). Each PFD displays airplane attitude, heading, airspeed, altitude, vertical speed, flight guidance system annunciations and navigation data. The PFD may also provide engine monitoring information when placed in reversionary mode.

The upper area of the PFD displays the Attitude Director Indicator (ADI), alti-tude scale, airspeed scale and vertical speed scale. Flight guidance system mode information shows directly above the ADI.

The lower area of the PFD presents a Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI); Weather radar or EGPWS information can be overlaid on the partial arc format or map format. The space to either side of the HSI format is used to display lateral navigation data, weather radar mode, EGPWS mode, system messages and selected menus.

Along the bottom of the PFD is shown radio tuning, time and temperature displays.

The MFD is used to show information such as: Present Position Map, TCAS, and FMS based textual data, navigation data, engine data, and the electronic checklist.

Basic display formats are controlled through the line select keys that are pro-vided as bezel mounted line select keys. These, along with the display control panel and the flight guidance panel, provide a primary pilot interface to the PFD and the MFD. Radar, NAV sources, and bearing pointers are controlled through the display control panel and the line select keys, while the course, preselect heading, altitude and speed references are controlled through the flight guidance panel.

Display Control Panel (DCP)

Two display control panels handle the menu and display functions of the PFDs and the MFD, located adjacent to the PFD or MFD they normally control. When combined with the line select keys on the PFD, control is provided for the weather radar, NAV sources, bearing pointers, V speeds, BARO minimums and RA minimums.

9-4MilViz KA350iControl Display Unit (CDU)

A color LCD-based Control Display Unit (CDU) is located on the center pedes-tal. It includes an integrated keyboard, an alphanumeric keypad, and six line select keys located in the bezel of the color LCD display.

The CDU provides integrated control of various combinations of airplane com-munications and navigation, including the Flight Management System (FMS).

Flight Management System (FMS)

The Flight Management System (FMS) serves to provide flight plan manage-ment, airplane navigation, and radio tuning. The system consists of a Flight Management Computer (FMC), a Control Display Unit (CDU) and a Data Base Unit (DBU).

The FMC is used by the autopilot to fly a programmed flight plan. It processes coupled VNAV, NAV-to-NAV capture, navaid database storage and several control/planning functions. The FMS will provide navigation solutions if it is receiving suitable navigation information from one or more of the following:

» One VOR/DME » Two DMEs » One GPS

Radio Tuning System

The Radio Tuning System provides the control, displays, and sensors for VHF & HF voice communication, VOR/ILS/DME, ADF, transponder tuning, and TCAS II. The system consists of a primary Radio Tuning Unit (RTU) located in the center of the instrument panel, and a secondary radio tuning unit contained in the CDU on the pedestal.
