FROMTHELEGIONCOMMANDER To start I want to thank all of our volunteers that do so much for our Post. Without you our Post would not be as great as it is. Too numerous to list here, I want you to know that you are truly appreciated. I want to thank all of you that took the time to come out and vote

during the last election and allowing me the privilege of being your Commander for one more year. Again – thank you. We have the time old problem with the kitchen. The 12 to 15 member that seem to always volunteer for the kitchen duties are becoming “burned out”! It is extremely hard in this day and age for each of the entities to meet their commitment(s) for the kitchen. The problem has become so serious as to the possibility of our kitchen being closed more than it is open! If you are able to spare a couple of hours a month to help out please let me or your Unit President, Squadron Commander, Director or me what you are able to do. Thank you in advance. Remember, there is no experience needed. Once again, we are looking for someone to manage our kitchen. If you know of anyone who would like the position, have them contact me. On the more pleasant side, there are a multitude of events in the works from now into next year. From outside events to parties with a lot of fun and games. Come and support those putting on each event. Check the calendar and the website for more details. A “Heads UP” on the Veterans Day weekend The Post will be open to the public to help us gain more exposure in our community, so bring your neighbors to our Post and introduce them to the America Legion Family. With the Post sponsoring the Veterans Day Parade we will be in the spotlight that weekend. If you have a suggestion please either call, email, or place it in the suggestion box. All ideas are read and placed under consideration See you at upcoming events. For God and Country Robert Hughes Commander 321-525-2668 [email protected]

FROM THE 2ND VICE COMMANDERWell! Here we are entering the Ninth Month of 2019. Elections are over and time to move in a direction of greater success. By the time you get this Newsletter, we are looking for a Kitchen Manager. The kitchen is one

of the biggest fund raisers at Post 163, next to the Bar, and we can’t seem to get a grip on making it a success. This is a Big Issue and we hope to have a plan in place very soon. We still have a problem with the Entertainment “Not Bringing In” patrons on Friday Night. If anyone has suggestions how to turn this around, please let me know. We can’t seem to keep members there after 8:00pm or even show up at all. Stay at 6pm to 10pm? Change to 5pm to 9pm? Karaoke has Two New Venues and it is coming along slowly. Karaoke will be held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month and there will be NO Karaoke on Saturdays anymore, as that did not pan out as we thought it would. Volunteers! Because ALL who work in the kitchen have to be Food Safe Certified, we will be holding classes for ALL Volunteers, on the 1st Wednesday of the month to Certify you. This is FREE for the Volunteer. Dewey is Certified to teach this class and all will have their card displayed in the kitchen. Start Date will be announced. Speaking of the Kitchen. The Post would like to Thank those who stepped up to fill in for Lunch and Dinner during Simon’s absence, Especially: Cricket, Barbara, Karen and Gail, who took the “Bull By The Horns” and opened for “Wings N’ Things when Christine was out with an injury. John and Michelle, who have been volunteering for A Lot of projects. And don’t forget Mack. He’s been there for Kitchen Duty with the Legion, Riders, and Auxiliary, as well as other functions throughout the Post On a Somber Note. Post 163 lost Several members over June and July, as noted in the Taps Section of this Newsletter. Two of the Most Memorable were: Post 163 Assistant Sgt. At Arms, Dr. Mark “DOC” Hoffman at 62, and Staff Sgt. Thomas “Tommy” Pechacek, at 98. Our Honor Guard Out Did themselves again by showing Tribute to these two Men with a Celebration of Life held at the Post. They will be Greatly missed for their candor, friendship, and ever humbleness in life. Their Burial Flags are prominently displayed in the Main Hall, in the designated area on the West Wall. Good-bye Old Friends. Finally! It has been a bit slow at the Post with the summer months not being favorable to our little post. Snowbirds not here yet. Families holding their own festive events at home. Bingo not drawing too many players. Kitchen Closed a lot. Friday Night Dinner sales down. Volunteers not available. So get out there and talk it up. We’re a proud Post, and we take care of our Vets. Any New Ideas? Pass them along. Your Officers are here for you and it is our duty to make sure we carry on the events and venues that make it a success. We’re trying. Are You? FROM THE 3rd VICE COMMANDER I have been appointed as the Post Adjutant in addition to my position of 3rd Vice. I'd like to thank our previous Adjutant, Debbie Gentry, for her many years of faithful service to this position. You are missed !

Veteran's Day Parade will be on November 11, 2019, in downtown Melbourne. This will be our third year sponsoring the parade!!! Donations to keep the Parades going are always appreciated as each Parade costs the Post approximately $4,000.00. These are fees we are required to pay the City of Melbourne. Please contact me for more information on the parade. 321 266 -5115 or email [email protected] Also , the Post will be having an open house that weekend. That means it is open to the public. Let your friends and neighbors know and encourage them to come by and check out the best Post on the Coast. Stay tuned for information on our 2nd annual fundraising golf tournament coming after the first of the year. This time we will have it in a cooler month! See you at the Post For God and Country Rose Yeary 3rd Vice Commander/Parade Chair

FROM THE A.L.R. DIRECTOR Hi everybody. Come out to the Legion Riders Steak Shoot, we are making a few small changes to make it more fun. When you play the Riders Steak Shoot, your money goes to good causes. Some of it goes to NVHS to

put Homeless Veteran’s up for the Holidays. Some goes to Honor Flights to send a Veteran and Escort to Washington DC. Some goes to send a boy and girl to Boys State and Girls State. Those are just a few of the things we do with the profits from the Steak Shoot. On Sept 28th the Riders will be hosting Taco Night and on Oct 12th we will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner. Thanks Malachy Mack McGuinness Director American Legion Riders Chapter 16
