K-8 REGISTRATION FORM - SUMMER 2020Newport News Public Schools is expanding its community-wide effort to ensure that students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade have access to extended learning opportunities
during the summer.
SPARK, the Summer Program for Arts, Recreation and Knowledge, partners NNPS with local businesses, museums,
non-profit organizations and city agencies to provide anengaging menu of offerings for students four days a week
throughout the summer. With meals and transportation provided, SPARK is a great opportunity for young people
across the city.
SPARK will be held Monday through Thursday, July 6 - 30, 2020. Schools
and offices will be closed on Fridays. There is no cost for
K-8 participants.
SPARK will be held at multiple locations throughout the city. The 2020 summer program will give students the opportunity
to participate in an array of offerings including academics, leadership, physical fitness, mentoring, art, music, dance
and more.
SPARK school assignments will be determined by your home address as documented in the official NNPS database. SPARK site location and bus information will be sent home in June.
If your child will need bus transportation to or from a Newport News childcare location, please provide the childcare address on the application form.
If you would like for your child to participate in SPARK, please complete and return the attached registration form to your child’s school no later than Friday, May 8.
When student registration for SPARK exceeds the number of seats available in each school, a lottery process will be used to select participants. If your child is placed on a SPARK wait list, you will be notified after July 8 by phone if a space becomes available.
Acceptance into the program is based on the number of seats available at each grade level. Every attempt is made to include sibling participation. Siblings are defined as children who have at least one parent in common and live in the same household.
