Christian Churches in Palestine areUnited in Asking Us or DivestmentWhen I was moderator o the Synod o the Northeast,

I visited churches in the Middle East and spoke with our

Christian brothers and sisters and Arab church leaders

in several countries, including Israel and Palestine.

Our brothers and sisters in Christ, the Christian Churches

in Palestine, are united in asking us or divestment.

They see this as a nonviolent response to the violence

o a brutal occupation. Please let us help them in their

    commitment to nonviolence.

Palestinian ChristiansNeed Freedom oMovementI am a Palestinian Christian. My amily in

    Ramallah lives under constant surveillance

and ear, unable to visit Christian holy

sites. We need your help to end this

injustice, so they can live in peace and

equality with their neighbors. Please vote

to end the churchs profting rom the

suering o Christians in the Holy Land.

    Divest rom Violence.Invest in Peace.

Preserving thePresbyterian Commitmentto Human RightsWhen I chaired the MRTI committee or 11

years during South Arican apartheid, our

church led the way in nonviolent, corporate

divestment, ultimately leading to peace in

South Arica. Have aith, and vote with your

heart instead o your ear. Divest rom

    Caterpillar, Motorola Solutions and Hewlett-

Packard, and invest in peace. God bless you.

A Thoughtul Decision Endorsed byMany Segments o the ChurchHaving listened to the call rom our brothers and sisters in

Christ in the Middle East, wrestled with the diversity o voicesin the Jewish community, and ater eight years o ailed

corporate engagement, the Middle East Peacemaking Issues

Committee has overwhelmingly recommended that three

companies profting rom non-peaceul pursuits be placed on

the divestment list. This conclusion to a long process has

now been endorsed by MRTI, GMAC, ACSWP, ACREC and

twelve ormer moderators. I hope the Assembly will stand

with us in afrming our churchs witness to a just peace.

Listening to Kairos and YoungLeadersAs a lie-long Presbyterian and a seminary student, I hope

the PC(USA) joins our brothers and sisters in Christ, the

Quakers, in taking a vital step toward peace in the Middle

East by divesting rom companies profting rom non-peaceul

pursuits in the Holy Land. Young leaders like me are

seeking to continue our churchs tradition o leading the

way towards justice. Even in the ace o controversy, we

stood on the side o justice against segregation, or ordaining

emale ministers, and or divesting rom Apartheid South

Arica. Through all these difcult choices, our church has

remained aithul, strong, and true to its values.

    Divest rom Violence.Invest in Peace.

A Call rom Our Palestinian Brothersand Sisters in ChristAs a Presbyterian Palestinian reugee, I know the pain o

losing a home. I have seen the pain and suering caused

by Caterpillar bulldozers destroying homes and livelihoods.

The prophetic mission o the church is to ollow the example

o Jesus by standing alongside the oppressed and promote

justice, peace and reconciliation. I urge you to ollow the

recomendation rom the MRTI, and suppor t divestment.
