From Fabric A, cut:four 6-1/2” x WOF strips. Set two aside for strip piecing. From the two remaining strips, cut: fifty-six1-1/2”x6-1/2”rectanglesfour 5-1/4” x WOF strips. Subcut: twenty-eight5-1/4”squaresfortheflyinggeesefour 4-1/2” x WOF strips. Set two aside for strip piecing. From the two remaining strips, cut: fifty-six1-1/2”x4-1/2”rectanglesthree 3-3/8” x WOF strips. Subcut: twenty-eight 3-3/8” squares for the Square-in-a-Square units.seven 2-1/2” x WOF strips. Subcut: one hundred twelve 2-1/2” squaresfour 2-1/2” x WOF strips. Set two aside for strip piecing. From each of Fabrics C-I, cut:two 1-1/2” x WOF strips. Set aside for strip piecing.

From the Binding Fabric, cut:seven 2-1/2” x WOF strips

Cutting Instructions

Step 1: Pin two 2-7/8” Fabric B squares in opposing corners of a 5-1/4” Fabric A square, RST. The squares will overlap slightly in the center of the large square. Using a ruler, draw a diagonal line through the squares.

Step 3: Press the fabric toward smaller triangles. Repeat with the second unit.

Step 4: Place one 2-7/8” Fabric B square at the corner of sewn block unit. Draw diagonal line in pencil. Sew a scant 1/4” seam on each side of diagonal line. Set seam (press). Cut along diagonal line, creating two identical units.

Step 5: Press the seam toward smaller triangle. Trim off small dog ears left by the seam allowance. Trim to 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” if necessary. Repeat to makefourflyinggeeseblocks.

Step 6: Repeat with all remaining 2-7/8” Fabric B squares and 5-1/4” Fabric AsquarestomakeatotalofonehundredtwelveA/Bflyinggeeseblocks.

Step 7: Sew a Fabric B triangle to opposite sides of a 3-3/8” Fabric A square. Press seam allowances toward the triangles. Repeat on remaining sides of the Fabric A square. Trim the SIAS block to 4-1/2” square.

Step 8: Repeat with all remaining Fabric B triangles and 3-3/8” Fabric A squares to make a total of twenty-eight SIAS units.

Assemble the Square-in-a-Square Units (SIAS)

Step 2: Sew scant 1/4” seam on each side of the diagonal line. Set theseambypressingitflat.Cutalongthediagonalline,creatingtwoidentical units.

Step 9: Gather:one SIAS unit from Step 8four Flying Geese units from Step 6four 2-1/2” Fabric A squares

Arrange the units into three rows of three. Note the fabric placement and block orientation in the Block Assembly Diagram.

Step 12: Gather:one 1-1/2” x WOF Fabric E stripone 6-1/2” x WOF Fabric A stripone 1-1/2” x WOF Fabric I strip

Sew together, in that order, along the longest edge. Press toward the 1-1/2” strips. Repeat to make a second strip set like this.

Cuteachstripsettoformatotaloffifty-six1-1/2”x8-1/2”units.

Assemble the A Blocks

Step 10: Sew the units together to form the rows. Press the seams away from the flyinggeeseunits.

Step 11: Sew the rows together, nesting the seams and pressing the seams to one side to form the block.

The A Block will measure 10-1/2” square. Repeat Steps 9-11 to make a total of twenty-eight A Blocks.

Sew together, in that order, along the longest edge. Press toward the 1-1/2” strips. Repeat to make a second strip set like this.

Step 14: Gather:one 1-1/2” x WOF Fabric B stripone 2-1/2” x WOF Fabric A stripone 1-1/2” x WOF Fabric G strip

Step 16: Sew two completed Step 15 units together to form a four patch. Press.

Assemble the B Blocks

Arrange the units as shown. Note the fabric placement in the Block Assembly Diagram.

Step 18: Sew 2-1/2” Fabric A rectangles to the top and bottom of the four-patch center. Press away from the center.

Step 19: Sew the Step 14 units to the left and right of the four-patch center, noting the fabric placement in the diagram. Press away from the center.

Step 20: Sew 4-1/2” Fabric A rectangles to the top and bottom of the block center. Press away from the center.

Step 21: Sew the Step 13 units to the left and right of the block center, noting the fabric placement in the diagram. Press away from the center.

Step 22: Sew 6-1/2” Fabric A rectangles to the top and bottom of the block center. Press away from the center.

Step 23: Sew the Step 12 units to the left and right of the block center, noting the fabric placement in the diagram. Press away from the center.

The B Block will measure 10-1/2” square. Repeat Steps 17-23 to make a total of twenty-eight B Blocks.

Assemble the Quilt

Step 24: Arrange the blocks into eight rows of seven blocks. Note the fabric placement and block orientation in the Quilt Assembly Diagram.

Step 25: Sew the blocks together to form rows. Press the rows to the left in the odd numbered rows and to the right in the even numbered rows.

Step 26: Sew the rows together to form the quilt center. Press the row seams open.

Your quilt top is complete! Baste, quilt, bind and enjoy!
