Just a Quick Thought on Forgiveness

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you mayhave against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (Colossi-

    ans 3:13 NIV)

If the way the Lord forgave is our example, what does that mean? We can con-sider:

When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucifiedhim, along with the criminalsone on his right, the other on hisleft. Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know whatthey are doing . . . ( Luke 23:32-34 NIV)

Jesus asked for us to be forgivenwithout demanding, waiting for, orrequiring an apology. This, I believe,is our example of how we should for-give each other.

This is not at all an easy thing to do.In many cases, maybe it isn't evenpossible, in our own strength. Fortu-nately, forgiving in our own strength

is not expected. The things God asksus to do are always possible becausehe provides what is needed.

I can do everything through him whogives me strength. Philippians4:13(NIV)
