EXT. ISLA NUBLAR - DAY

A downpour of rain...

A military caravan is trekking through the thick foliage of the island, when they encounter a T-Rex. It looks at the team of soldiers and twists its head like a curious bird.

EDDIE, the man in the clean black suit, steps out of the lead truck with a high powered rifle. He looks through the scope and aims carefully at the T-Rex’s eye.

EDDIEYou’re a big clumsy creature, that’s why you became extinct. You were wiped out by a meteor for good reason. Now you will be wiped out by me. You’re the last one, buddy.

Eddie pulls the trigger on his rifle. Nothing happens. He pulls it again. Nothing happens. The T-rex charges toward the caravan.

EDDIE(pounding on rifle)

C’mon you piece of crap!

The T-rex slams into the lead truck, which crashes into the vehicle directly behind, causing a domino effect. As Eddie fiddles with his rifle, the T-rex goes around picking off soldiers.

INT. TROOP TRUCK - DAY

It forces its head through the side of a troop truck. The soldiers scurry back and huddle together. SOLDIER #1 nudges SOLDIER #2.

SOLDIER #1Shoot that goddamn thing!

SOLDIER #2I’m outta ammunition!

The T-rex roars as its head presses against the canvas ceiling.

EXT. ISLA NUBLAR - DAY

The T-rex backs up from the troop truck, its mouth stained with blood. It swings back toward, Eddie. Eddie aims his rifle again and pulls the trigger.

Page 3: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

A large feathered dart shoots the T-rex in the neck. It falls down and splashes in the mud.

Eddie walks over to the T-rex. He pulls out the dart and smirks.

EDDIEToo bad you didn’t evolve for an immunity against poison.

Eddie throws the dart behind his shoulder. It lands in a puddle of water, which make concentric circles, as the island reverberates from the clapping thunder.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. UNIVERSAL LOGO - DAY

A globe spins against a black background, encapsulated by large letters which read, UNIVERSAL.

EXT. USC - DAY - ESTABLISHING

The University of Southern California. Lots of students.

INT. LECTURE HALL - DAY

The lecture is seen behind a tall thin man with brown hair, facing out toward a huge crowd of students.

GRANT(back facing)

Yes, most scientists believe that the dinosaurs went extinct because of a meteorite. But what most people don’t know it was in fact double impact...

A spirited looking boy raises his hand for a question.

GRANTQuestions will be answered after the presentation.

MAX interrupts anyway.

MAXYour meteorites are a fantasy! The reason the dinos went extinct is because of gradual climactic change.

2.

Page 4: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

The disappearance of key plant species and an inability to adapt to colder weather is what really did them in.

The camera turns to reveal Grant’s calm but irritated face.

GRANTWould you please come up on stage for a minute?

Max looks at the others, unsure.

GRANTI’d like to show you something.

He reluctantly stands up and goes on the stage.

GRANT(gestures)

Step here for a minute.

Max walks out, dead center for everyone to see. Grant leaves for a minute and returns with a beach ball painted in the likeness of a meteor.

GRANTNow imagine for a second you are a dinosaur. I know it’s difficult. Just try.

Max is tense, motionless as Grant circles around him.

GRANTOkay, here I have a meteor. You are dinosaur, a little, littledinosaur. I throw this meteor at your head.

Grant throws the ball at Max, the crowd laughs as it bounces off his head.

GRANTTwice.

Grant picks up the ball and throws it again.

GRANTSo you’re alive, you’re still standing, you’re still on stage. Nothing has happened.

Grant takes out a tiny meteorite from his pocket and shows it to the crowd.

3.

MAX (CONT'D)

Page 5: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANT(showing meteor)

But what if the meteor was made out of a dense material, like this?

Grant throws the meteor at Max’s head. Max flinches.

GRANTHurts? Okay. Now take that little pebble of a meteor and increase the size by a million... Then multiply the speed by a hundred... Do you think you’d be dead?

Max concedes with shoulders slumped forward and an embarrassed face. Grant pats Max on the shoulder.

GRANTGo have a seat, son.

INT. BACKSTAGE - DAY

As the students leave, Grant tramps down a small set of stairs. A lady in shadow appears in front.

GRANTSorry, I’m not signing any books today.

ELLIE(in shadow)

No?

GRANTUnfortunately.

Grant walks forward. ELLIE comes out from the shadow. She is absolutely stunning, more gorgeous than ever. Age has only made her more attractive. The fine lines on her face draw toward her pouty lips.

GRANTEllie?

ELLIEI really enjoyed the lecture, Alan. But you were a little rough around the edges -- as usual.

GRANTHe’s a tough kid. He can take it.

4.

Page 6: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

INT. CAFETARIA - DAY

Grant and Ellie are in line, waiting to buy food.

ELLIEIt’s a shame we can’t see more of each other. I guess we’re all busy.

GRANTWhen did we last meet? 2001, I think... So why are you here?

ELLIEWorking on a little project for the university.

GRANTWhat’s it about?

The line moves forward. The lunch lady looks at Grant.

ELLIE(teasing)

It’s a secret.

GRANT(to lunch lady)

I’ll have a bagel with cream cheese.

(to Ellie)Oh come now. You can tell an old friend, can’t you?

ELLIE(to lunch lady)

A salad and water, please. (to Grant)

Okay, I’ll explain it when we sit down.

Ellie and Grant take their meals and sit down at an empty table.

ELLIEDo your remember, Jurassic Park?

GRANTDon’t remind me... Wait, don’t tell me...

5.

Page 7: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

ELLIEAfter InGen went bankrupt they auctioned off their assets.

GRANTWhat are you saying?

ELLIEThe university purchased some of the technology Hammond invented. They’re using it to replicate velociraptor blood... They believe it can fight disease, as a sort of super antibiotic.

GRANTAre you sure they aren’t using it for something else?

ELLIEIt’s legitimate.

GRANTSince when did you start getting into medicine?

Ellie rests her face on her hands and smiles.

ELLIEWow. It really has been a long time hasn’t it?

EXT. INGEN OFFICE - DAY - ESTABLISHING

The ghost of glory’s past. A quiet grey stone building sits outside while the wind gently blows trash down the sidewalk.

INT. INGEN OFFICE - DAY

In a large empty room, a big black chair sits in the middle, its back facing out. It spins around. HAMMOND sighs and twirls a cane with an amber stone on top. He gets up and ambles outside through the double doors.

INT. CIRCULAR ROOM - DAY

Hammond enters a circular room, the center of the former InGen Office. He watches as repo men carry away his past in cheap cardboard boxes.

6.

Page 8: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

HAMMOND(to man trying to pry away a fiberglass dino)

Be careful with that!

The repo man ignore him and tears away the bolted fiberglass dino, leaving only its feet. Hammond looks crestfallen. He sits down on the floor. A long shadow appears over him.

Hammond lifts his head. His grown-up grandchildren, TIM and LEX, lift him off the floor. Tim puts his arm around Hammond.

TIMLet’s go grampa.

The three quietly exit as a ray of light shines through skylight, highlighting the sparkling dust hanging in the musky air.

EXT. VERMONT AVE - DAY

An arm spray paints a white line across the asphalt. Two cars pull up and we see a crowd of people. In the yellow car, LOGAN. In the red Cadillac, Max and his girlfriend, SASHA.

LOGANYou ready for this?

MAXThose textbooks won’t buy ‘emselves.

Sasha looks at Max.

SASHAReally, Max. Racing for textbooks?

MAXIt’s a guy thing, Sasha.

Max puts on his glasses.

MAXIf you wanna leave, you can.

Sasha buckles up her seat belt. A SCRAWNY kid raises a pistol in the air.

SCRAWNY(deep voice)

On your marks...

7.

Page 9: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

The cars rev their engines.

SCRAWNYGet set...

Max squeezes the wheel of his car.

SCRAWNYReady...

Logan hangs a pair of dice on his mirror.

SCRAWNYGo!

Max and Logan step on the gas. Logan’s car zooms off. Max’s car just sputters.

MAXAw! Not now!

Max hops out his car.

MAXPop the hood, Sasha!

Sasha pops the hood. Max takes out a multi-tool from his pocket and fiddles around inside. He slams the hood down and jumps back inside the car.

MAXLet’s go!

Max presses on the gas. The car takes off at lightning speed. It catches up to Logan’s yellow car. Logan looks out, surprised.

LOGANHoly shit!

Sasha waves goodbye to Logan as the Cadillac zooms ahead and goes past the finish line.

EXT. SASHA’S HOUSE - NIGHT

Max pulls the Cadillac into the driveway, along with Sasha. He kisses her on the cheek.

MAXI’ll see you tomorrow.

8.

Page 10: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

Sasha gets of the car. She waves goodbye as Max takes his car into the driveway next door.

EXT. GRANT’S HOUSE - NIGHT

Max blows Sasha a kiss, then he goes inside of the house.

INT. GRANT’S HOUSE - MAIN FOYER - NIGHT

Max enters the house, his ears pick up on a sound, a light jazzy music.

INT. GRANT’S HOUSE - DINING - NIGHT

Grant and Ellie tap their wine glasses together and smile at each other as the swig down the dark purple liquid. Max enters the room.

MAXDad?

GRANTEllie, I’d like you to meet my son... Max.

Ellie reaches across the table and shakes Max’s hand.

MAXWhat’s going on here? You’re not having a romantic dinner are you?

GRANTMax, don’t be ridiculous. She’s an old friend.

Max spots the wedding ring on Ellie’s finger.

GRANTHave a seat, son.

MAXNo, I think I should...

GRANTSit down.

Max sits down on Grant’s command.

ELLIESo, how old are you exactly?

9.

Page 11: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXOld enough to drink.

Ellie raises an eyebrow. She smirks and pours Max a glass a wine. Grant takes away the wine glass.

GRANTNo. He doesn’t drink.

ELLIEOh. My mistake.

MAXI’m kind of a monk when it comes to alcohol. I just don’t like the stuff. For obvious reasons...

ELLIEWhat do you mean by that?

Grant looks at Max and shakes his head.

MAXMy mom died in a car accident.

ELLIEOh that’s so sad.

MAXAnd I think by my previous statement, you can guess how it happened.

Ellie looks at her watch. It’s way past midnight.

ELLIEOh shoot. I gotta go.

Ellie stands. Grant gets up from his seat.

GRANTSo soon?

ELLIEI have to be at the lab six hours.

GRANTWell, let me see you to the door.

Max continues sitting as Grant shows Ellie to the door. He smells the wine, makes a disgusted face.

10.

Page 12: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

INT. GRANT’S HOUSE - MAX’S ROOM - DAY

Morning has come. The alarm clock on Max;s night stand goes off. Max searches with his arm, trying to find the snooze button. But he reaches too far out and accidentally tumbles to the floor.

Thud!

GRANT (OS)Everything alright up there?

MAXYeah. I’m just exercising!

Max gets up and rubs his head.

INT. GRANT’S HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY

Max runs into the kitchen and grabs his knapsack. Grant is already awake, making breakfast -- orange juice, burnt toast and tofu sausages.

As Max is about to leave...

GRANTBreakfast is ready!

Max reluctantly takes a seat. Grant puts the food onto a plate and serves the unappetizing melange. Max picks up the blackened toast. It snaps in half.

GRANTEat up.

MAXI’m not really that hungry.

GRANTA growing boy needs to eat.

MAX(to self)

Eat what, that’s the question.

GRANTWhat was that?

MAXI have a stomach ache.

11.

Page 13: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

Max gets up.

MAXI’ll eat the breakfast when I come home!

Max runs out the kitchen.

EXT. GRANT’S HOUSE - BACKYARD - DAY

Grant puts on his famous hat and walks into the backyard. He hears the sound of a child playing through the fence. He walks over to look.

There is a toddler playing with disfigured G.I. Joes in a sandbox.

GRANTWhatcha got there, Jeff?

JEFF looks up.

JEFFGI Joe!

Grant reaches into his back pocket and takes out a toy dinosaur, a triceratops.

JEFFWhat’s that?

GRANTA triceratops.

JEFFTwy-sawah-tops?

GRANTWould you like to play with it?

Jeff waddles over to Grant and lifts his head. Grant reaches over and hands him the toy. Jeff looks at the toy. He runs back to his sandbox and uses it to fight with the GI Joes.

Grant lifts his hat and smiles.

EXT. BEACH - DAY

Max and Sasha are at the beach, relaxing under a big umbrella. Max is reading a book, “The City and the Stars”.

12.

Page 14: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXI love the weekend.

Sasha lifts her sunglasses and sees a crowd gathering by the shore, staring out.

SASHAMax!

MAXWhat?

SASHAI think something’s going on.

MAXLet the coast guard worry about it.

Sasha takes Max’s book. Max looks at the crowd.

MAXSo there’s a bunch of people staring at the water...

Sasha gets up. Max follows her as she goes to join the crowd. They push through to the front.

MAXI don’t see anything.

Sasha points to a little island.

SASHAOver there.

There is a silhouette of an Apatosaurus, swaying its head back and forth.

MAXIt couldn’t be...

EXT. LITTLE ISLAND - DAY

A stout man in overalls with the words “NuTech” emblazoned on the front, is controlling a fake robotic dinosaur with a radio.

INT. NUTECH BOARD ROOM - DAY

Eddie, the CEO of National United Technology, is standing in front of his peers in a dark room, lit only by a projector.

13.

Page 15: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

On screen is a picture of tourists bunched together, artificially smiling.

EDDIEIf we make this thing... we can be bigger than Disney Land... There’s no stopping us. We have the real estate. We have the technology -- which we got for dirt cheap -- and we virtually have no competitors.

The Chief Marketing Officer, the CMO, raises his hand.

EDDIEYes?

CMOWhen you say ‘virtually no competitors’, what exactly do you mean by that?

EDDIEI mean -- no competitors. Not even the old, Jurassic Park. The U.S. Military and I got rid of that problem. It was a real hazard.

CMOEven with what we have now, I still think it’s too dangerous.

EDDIEIt’s been more than a decade and a half since the original park opened. Technology has advance significantly. It would be nothing but safe.

The CHAIRMAN rubs his chin with skepticism.

CHAIRMANI realize we have this technology, Edward, but it doesn’t mean we have to use it.

EDDIEDid you not watch the video I showed you. Did you see how the people at the beach reacted? It wasn’t even a real dinosaur... Imagine what they would pay to see a real one.

14.

Page 16: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

INT. LARRY KING LIVE - NIGHT

Grant looks at LARRY King across the table. There’s a twinkle in his eye.

LARRYYou are the dinosaur man.

GRANTSome people call me that.

LARRYEven after the horrific tragedy on Jurassic Park, you still maintain an interest in dinosaurs. Why is that?

GRANTI’ve grew up with dinosaurs all my life, both in the dirt and above it -- and I believe they’re creatures that need our respect. My reverence for them, what they’ve done to my life, will never die down. Just because you’ve loved and lost, does not mean you can love again.

LARRYAnd let’s talk about your book for a moment...

Larry King lifts a book and shows it to the camera, “Dances with Dinosaurs”.

LARRYWhy the strange title? Dances with Dinosaurs.

GRANTA dinosaur is an agile creature. When you go face to face with one it’s like a dance. Except if you screw up you won’t get dumped, you’ll get eaten.

LARRYThat actually make sense.

Grant and Larry snicker together.

15.

Page 17: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT

Ellie turns off the television. She takes off her glasses and puts them on the night stand behind. She turns off the lights and spreads out her limbs.

There is a knock at the door. Ellie turns on the light. She puts on a robe and goes to answer it. When she opens the door there are two police officers standing in front of her.

OFFICER #1 folds his arms.

OFFICER #1Are you Miss Sattler?

ELLIEDr. Ellie Sattler, yes.

OFFICER #2 speaks up.

OFFICER #2Sorry to bother you so late in the night, but we need to ask you some questions.

ELLIEWhat about?

OFFICER #2We believe your laboratory has been broken into.

ELLIEYou’re kidding me. What did they take?

OFFICER #1Microscopes, lab equipment... that sort of thing.

OFFICER #2 At first we thought they were taking something of more value, but it turns they just might be hoodlums -- trying to make a couple extra bucks.

ELLIESo what can I do?

16.

Page 18: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

OFFICER #1 Come down with us to the lab. Let us investigate the crime scene. That sort of thing.

ELLIEWhy are you coming to me? Shouldn’t you speak with the University?

OFFICER #1Are you not the lead scientist of the project?

ELLIEOkay. I just need to put something more appropriate.

OFFICER #1 Take your time.

Ellie closes the door.

INT. LABORATORY - NIGHT

Ellie does a retinal eye scan and enters the lab with the two police officers. They use their flashlights to light the way. The three of them walk together and look around.

ELLIEIt doesn’t appear as if the place has been broken into.

OFFICER #1I’m gonna go check ‘round back. Officer Smith is gonna ask you some questions.

ELLIEOkay.

As Officer #2 questions Ellie, Officer #1 goes to the back.

CUT TO:

He finds a computer in the corner. He turns on the monitor, where there is a password screen.

Officer #1 sticks a USB key into the tower case and uploads a program. The program unlocks the computer and gives him access to a menu.

17.

Page 19: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

CUT TO:

Meanwhile, Ellie is still talking to Officer #2 as he jots down notes.

ELLIEI really don’t know.

OFFICER #2So you don’t remember the last people who visited this laboratory?

ELLIEA lot of workers come in and out. It’s hard to keep track. But generally without authorization, nobody can get in.

CUT TO:

Back with Officer #1. He is typing away on the keyboard in an encrypted language. After punching enter, a message come up, “Access Granted”.

A cylindrical tube pops up on the adjacent counter as cold white smoke billows onto the ground.

CUT TO:

Officer #1 joins Officer #2 as he flips his note pad close.

OFFICER #2Okay Dr. Ellie. Thank you for your time. We’ll let you know if anything crops up... Are you alright to drive back alone to your hotel?

ELLIEI should be fine... It’s a bad area, but I’m only there for a bit ‘till I find an apartment.

OFFICER #1Well you know who to call if there’s trouble.

Officer #1 and Officer #2 leave. Ellie looks back, as if she feels something suspicious has just occurred.

INT. GRANT’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY

Max is on the couch watching TV when a newscast comes on.

INT. NEWSCAST - LABORATORY - DAY

The JOURNALIST holds a microphone close to her mouth.

JOURNALISTI’m Marie Ching, here at the University of Southern California. I am in the laboratory, where a robbery has recently taken place.

INT. GRANT’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM

Max shouts to Grant as he watches.

MAXDad my school’s on TV!

GRANT (O.S.)I’m busy!

INT. NEWSCAST - LABORATORY - DAY

The newscast continues.

JOURNALISTNothing it appears, at first glance, is missing. But if we go to the back of the lab we can clearly see a crime has taken place.

The cameraman follows the journalist as she goes back where there is the protruding cylindrical tube -- empty.

JOURNALIST(hand points to container)

Here you can see an empty cylindrical container. This is where the item in question, has been stolen. Several tubes of dinosaur DNA... Police are not sure how it was stolen, as there is no evidence of a forced break in...

The Journalist brushes back her hair.

19.

Page 21: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

JOURNALISTBut say they are working on it. Although it does not seem to be a top priority for them, as there are ‘more important’ issues to deal with.

INT. GRANT’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY

The phone suddenly rings. Max mutes the television. He picks it up.

MAX(on phone)

Hello? Oh hey, Sasha. Yeah. I’m not really doing anything right now. Okay. I’ll met you there. Bye.

Max hangs up the phone.

EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - DAY

Protesters march around the construction site, holding anti-Jurassic Park placards.

As they shout their slogans and scream, Max drives up with his convertible. He spots his Sasha waving her fist in the air.

SASHAJurassic Park is dangerous! We don’t your Jurassic Park!

The Construction workers try to get back to work, but they are violently pushed back by the protesters.

INT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - CRANE - DAY

On top of a crane, Eddie is looking down at the protesters.

EDDIEDamn hippies.

EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - DAY

Max gets out of his car. He pushes through the crowd and taps Sasha on the shoulder.

20.

Page 22: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXSasha!

Sasha turns around.

SASHAMax! You came!

Sasha gives Max a placard.

SASHAHold this!

Max puts the sign down.

MAXI didn’t know you wanted to meet me for a protest... I have other things to do.

SASHALike what?!

MAXActually, I’m not against Jurassic Park.

SASHAWhat?

MAXI’m not against Jurassic Park.

SASHAWhat?

MAXI LOVE JURASSIC PARK!

Sasha and the others turn and stare at Max.

MAXUh...

They turn back and continue protesting. Sasha bring Max out of the crowd and takes him aside to talk.

SASHAWhat do you mean you love, Jurassic Park?

21.

Page 23: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXI’m just not against... I want to see the dinosaurs.

SASHAAre you crazy?! They’re building it in the city.

(points to ground)Here!

MAXSo what’s the problem?

SASHAWhat’s the problem? Do you remember what happened to your dad? Do you know how dangerous these things are?

MAXMy dad’s alive. Even if he was dead... that doesn’t mean they should ban an amusement park.

SASHAThis isn’t an amusement park. It’s a bunch of businessmen playing, God. And you know what happens when people play, God.

MAXNo, I don’t Sasha. Why don’t you tell me?

SASHABad stuff! Bad stuff happens!

MAXI’m not against Jurassic Park. You can’t force me to take on your beliefs -- against science.

SASHADon’t put words in my mouth.

MAXWell -- don’t put values in my brain!

SASHAAre you going to protest or not?

22.

Page 24: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXNo.

SASHAFine! Fine! We’re not going out anymore!

MAXYou’re breaking up with me because I won’t protest?! That’s ridiculous... Fine! Fine! I’m out of here.

Max storms off and jumps into his Cadillac.

SASHAGood riddance!

The wheels of Max’s car kicks up dust as it leaves the construction site.

Eddie appears on the horizon. He walks confidently and approaches the crowd. He steps on top of a box to address the people.

EDDIEExcuse me...

The protesters boo.

EDDIEI know, I know! You’re angry... Well I’m angry too.

A BIG DUDE steps out and bellows.

BIG DUDEWhat’re you angry about?!

EDDIEGlobal warming... Isn’t that why y’all are protesting? Global warming. I know, I know. The park is going to take up a lot of resources... But we’re using solar energy to run it! We’re trying to be as responsible as possible.

Sasha turns to one of the protesters, BIG LADY.

SASHAIs that what we’re protesting about?

23.

Page 25: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

BIG LADYYeah.

SASHAI thought we were protesting against them ‘playing God’.

BIG LADYNo! We’re protesting against the deforestation they’re doin’ to build the park. It’s gonnaseriously contribute to global warming.

SASHAOh no.

Sasha runs off.

SASHAMax! I’m coming!

The Big Lady shrugs and turns back to the protest.

BIG LADYTree murderer!

INT. PARK - DAY

Grant is walking in the park with Ellie.

ELLIEWhat’s it like being a single parent?

GRANTIt’s not so bad... when I see him.

ELLIEAw, that’s how all kids are.

GRANTEven yours?

ELLIE(teasing)

No.

GRANTOh.

24.

Page 26: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

ELLIESo, did you hear about what happened?

GRANTI’ve been busy. Fill me in.

ELLIESomebody stole some DNA samples from the laboratory.

GRANT(sarcastic)

Is that all?

Grant and Ellie duck under a branch as they walk.

ELLIENo... It gets worse.

GRANTWhat could be worse?

ELLIEI think I let the robbers in.

GRANTWhat was that?

ELLIEThey were dressed as police.

GRANTAre you in trouble?

ELLIENo. They dismissed it.

GRANTAll is well then?

ELLIENot exactly. The DNA they took is --

A baseball hits Grant in his shin. He jumps up from the pain, “Oooh! Ow!”

ELLIEAlan are you okay?

Grant stops jumping. A LITTLE GIRL runs up to him.

25.

Page 27: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

LITTLE GIRLYou okay mister?

Grant picks up the baseball and gives it to the Little Girl.

GRANTI think this belongs to you.

LITTLE GIRLReal sorry. I’m new at this.

The Little Girl takes the ball and runs off.

ELLIEKids, gotta love ‘em.

GRANTReally...

EXT. TROPICAL RESORT - DAY

Officer #1 and Officer #2, now identified by their real names, WES and DEAN, have a seat by Eddie, sitting at the round glass table.

They shake hands.

EDDIESo nice to see you.

WESLikewise.

EDDIEDo you have it?

DEANOf course.

Wes hands Eddie a package. Eddie puts it in a briefcase and hides it under the table.

WESBeing a bit paranoid aren’t we?

EDDIEYou can never be too careful... By the way, did anyone follow you?

WESWe were like ninjas.

26.

Page 28: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EDDIEThat’s great.

DEAN...I don’t think it’s possible.

EDDIEWhat’s not possible?

DEANI understand how they did it with the other dinos. They extracted the DNA from mosquitos and recombined it with their modern ancestors.

EDDIEOkay...

DEANSo, there aren’t any mosquitos underwater.

The WAITRESS arrives.

WAITRESSCan I take your orders gentlemen?

Eddie takes out a hundred dollar bill and hands it the waitress.

EDDIEBeat it toots. The men are having a discussion.

The Waitress takes the money and leaves.

EDDIEWhat were we talking about?

WESDinos underwater.

DEANWhat’s the deal?

EDDIERight. A good question... I never thought about it. You’ll have to ask the scientist.

Eddie takes out a smart phone and connects a call to Ray ARNOLD. Arnold squints on the LCD screen.

27.

Page 29: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

ARNOLD(waking, night where is)

Mm... Mr. Soros? What’s the matter?

EDDIEI have a question for you. How do you get DNA from a creature which dwells underwater?

ARNOLDSimple. Chip ‘em out.

EDDIEChip ‘em out?

ARNOLDA lot of sea creatures from the Jurassic, and even the Cretaceous period, became frozen in bodies of water when the climate changed... thus preserving their genetic code.

EDDIEThank you.

ARNOLDNo problem, boss.

Eddie hangs up.

EDDIE(to Wes and Dean)

Does that answer your question?

EXT. SEA - CRUISESHIP - DAY

John Hammond is lying down on a lounge chair with his hat over his face. A hand reaches down and removes his hat. Hammond looks up.

HAMMONDExcuse me, I was using that to cover my face from the sun. I’m sure it was a mistake, if you’d just --

The CRUISE-LINE WORKER throws that hat, it catches in the wind and falls off board.

HAMMONDOh my.

28.

Page 30: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

CRUISE-LINE WORKERYou’re, John Hammond. I know it! Aren’t you?!

Hammond stands up. He adjusts his shirt.

HAMMONDI think we have a misunderstanding. Yes, I am John Hammond... but likely not the John Hammond you are looking for.

CRUISE-LINE WORKERJohn Hammond of Jurassic Park?

HAMMONDOkay. I am the John Hammond you’re looking for... What is it you want from me?

CRUISE-LINE WORKERDo you know who Thomas Cory is?

HAMMONDI haven’t the slightest.

CRUISE-LINE WORKERLet me refresh your memory.

The Cruise-Line Workers bows forward and starts acting like a T-Rex.

HAMMONDOh my!

The Cruise-Line Worker stands straight and stares Hammond deep in his eyes.

CRUISE-LINE WORKERYour little project ‘Jurassic Park’killed my dad!

HAMMONDI’m terribly sorry? What is it I can do for you?

The Cruise-Line Worker grabs Hammond by the shirt.

CRUISE-LINE WORKERStop the new Jurassic Park from opening!

29.

Page 31: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

HAMMONDI can’t! I’m powerless!

CRUISE-LINE WORKERYou’re a filthy rich businessman! And you can’t stop it from happening?!

HAMMONDThe lawsuits... I haven’t enough money.

The Cruise-Line Worker pulls back his fist. Hammond closes his eyes. He hears a yelp. He looks and sees Tim and Lex shoving the Cruise-Line Worker into a pool of water.

The Cruise-Line Worker falls in with a giant splash.

LEXYou bastard! Pick on someone your own age!

Tim goes over to Hammond.

TIMGramps, you okay?

Hammond adjusts his glasses.

HAMMONDYes. I’m fine.

CRUISE-LINE WORKER(splashing)

Help! I can’t swim!

Lex rolls her eyes and throws the Cruise-Line Worker a rescue pole. She drags him in. The Cruise-Line Worker crawls on the chilly blue tile and coughs out water.

INT. COFFEE SHOP - DAY

Ellie, Grant and Max are in a coffee shop. Max looks dejected, extremely anxious. His hands are folded, kept close to his body.

GRANTWhat do you think the robber plan on doing with that DNA?

30.

Page 32: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAX(lamenting)

Can we stop talking about stupid dinosaurs for a minute?!

GRANTSon, you shouldn’t interrupt the grown-ups.

MAXI’m just saying. It’s stupid. Dinosaurs are big and dumb.

Max sinks down.

GRANTOh trust me son. They are not dumb.

Max rolls his eyes.

GRANTMax. Sit up.

Max groans and sits up.

GRANTWhy did you come here? I thought you wanted to speak with Dr. Sattler?

MAXWell...

GRANTNow, act like an adult please.

MAXOkay... Dr. Sattler...

ELLIEYou can call me Ellie.

MAXDr. Ellie...

ELLIEJust Ellie.

MAXMs. Ellie...

31.

Page 33: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANT(irate)

Max...

MAXDad.

Grant rolls his eyes. He takes a sip of his coffee.

ELLIEMax, what are you taking at USC?

MAXThe usual. Archaeology. Anthropology. Genetics. Anything science. No arts. Yuck.

ELLIEHa, ha. Like father, like son.

GRANTThere are subtle similarities.

ELLIE(to Max)

So you like dinosaurs?

MAXYeah. I do. But here’s the thing... You can only do so much with bones. And that’s left me a little bored.

ELLIEDinosaurs are best left underground. Trust me on that one.

MAXI wanna see their teeth, I wanna see their saliva. Full flesh creatures, not these computer simulations and junky stuff like that... Boy I hope they open that new Jurassic Park soon.

GRANTWhat?

ELLIEWhat?

MAXAre you two not aware? They’re creating a new, Jurassic Park. They’re calling it, the zoo of the twenty first century.

32.

Page 34: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANTHow come I never heard about this?

MAXWhat’re you talking about? The news was everywhere online.

GRANTI hate computers.

MAXWell you should’ve known. Why’d you think they called you to do those lectures at the University?

GRANTI thought it was about my book.

MAXThat book is boring.

ELLIEWhere are they building the new, Jurassic Park?

MAXI can take you there if you want.

Grant and Ellie stand up. They rush for the door.

GRANTCome on, Max!

EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - DAY

Ellie, Grant, and Max, get out of the Cadillac. With Grant leading the way they walk through the construction site; which is now more substantially built. They go over to a trailer where Grant knocks on the door.

GRANTHello! Is anyone there?

The door slowly opens. Eddie smiles.

EDDIEThe famous Dr. Grant.

(looks at Ellie)And the famous Dr. Sattler! What a pleasant surprise!

33.

Page 35: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANTWhy are you doing this?

EDDIEDoing what? Living in a trailer? Well I like to keep a close eye on things. Quality and safety is always my policy.

GRACYJurassic Park!

EDDIEOh that.

Eddie steps aside.

EDDIELet’s speak in my office.

INT. TRAILER - DAY

Grant, Max, and Ellie sit down on the couch. Eddie is in the kitchen area putting on a pot of water.

EDDIECan I offer you anything to drink? I’m having some tea myself.

GRANTNo, thank you.

Eddie puts a tea bag into a cup and pours hot water onto it. Then he splashes it with milk and sugar. He sits down with the others.

EDDIENow what questions do you have Dr. Grant? I know you must have many, considering your checkered history.

MAXWhat the hell does that mean?

GRANTRelax son.

ELLIEMr. Soros. You have all the money in the world. Why do you want to open a new park?

34.

Page 36: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EDDIEI love dinosaurs. What can I say. I love the past, I love paleontology... This isn’t a project just for money you know... although that’s one of the incentives.

GRANTJurassic Park is not safe.

EDDIEWrong Mr. Grant! The OLD Jurassic Park wasn’t safe. This one is entirely new. It has state of the art technology. And I mean state of the art. Not even the US military has access to it.

GRANTYour company is not God.

EDDIEClose to it.

ELLIENational United Technology is a great company, but what you’re doing is beyond comprehension. Don’t you understand?

EDDIENuTech has sunk nearly half a billion dollars into this thing... Do you really think I’m gonna stop it because of two retired paleontologists?

GRANTWhatever it is, we’re just trying to warn you. Building an amusement park for dinosaurs in the middle of suburbia is a really, really, bad idea.

EDDIEIt’s not an amusement park, Dr. Grant, it’s a zoo. A Jurassic Zoo.

MAX(to self)

That’s a catchy name.

35.

Page 37: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANTWell when you do open it, would you please let us know?

EDDIEAbsolutely! I can even give you free tickets if you want.

Eddie takes out four tickets and gives them to Grant. Grant puts them aside on the coffee table.

GRANTNo. We want to know when you’re opening it up so we can get the hell out of here.

EDDIEOh, is that how it is?

ELLIEIt’s not that we don’t like you Mr. Soros. It’s just that... Dinosaurs have a tendency to eat people.

GRANTDr. Sattler’s new apartment doesn’t have security to stave off velociraptors.

Max bends over to tie his shoelaces. He looks up through the glass coffee table and with sleight of hand, grabs the four tickets. He puts them into his pocket.

EDDIEI know you’re only here temporarily Dr. Sattler -- but it’ll be perfectly safe.

MAXExcuse me.

EDDIEYes?

MAXIs there a washroom in here? I really have to go.

EDDIEThere’s a port-a-potty outside.

MAXMay I...

36.

Page 38: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANTHurry up, Max.

Max gets up and leaves the trailer.

EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - DAY

Max goes around the trailer. He walks ahead, through an assortment of dinosaur paraphernalia. He reaches a bright aqua port-a-potty.

Max opens the door. His face goes sour as a rancid smell drifts his way.

MAXOh God!

Max slams the door shut. He sees a crew of workers pushing a large opaque cage on wheels. What’s inside cannot be seen. However Max’s curiosity is piqued.

When they set it down and leave, Max tiptoes over. He goes up to the cage and looks through the holes.

MAXHello?

He doesn’t see anything -- but something sees him. It looks back through the inside of the cage.

MAXMust be empty.

As Max pulls his face back a roar is heard and a claw jumps out the hole. Max falls back from the surprise.

MAXHoly crap!

Max stands. He takes a flashlight and shines it inside, trying to get a better look.

MAXWhat are you?

More roars as the cage rumbles with commotion.

MAXI know what you are.

Max circles around the cage, thinking, listening to the noises.

37.

Page 39: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXVelociraptor? No, couldn’t be... Segisaurus? Naw. Struthiomimus? No! I know, I know this... Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Max gets closer to the cage.

MAXA baby.

The baby T-rex makes a shrill cry.

MAXLooking for mommy, huh?

Max reaches into his back pocket and takes out a pepperoni stick. He peels off the plastic and sticks it through one of the holes. The pepperoni stick quickly pulls back. A munching noise is heard.

MAXThat’s a good boy.

GRANT (OS)MAX! WHERE ARE YOU?!

MAXSee yah!

Max dashes off, follows the voice of Grant.

EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - NIGHT

Rain has drenched the construction site...

It is now surrounded by a high chain link fence, to keep out protesters and dissidents -- but it’s quickly dismantled when a jeep smashes through.

A man in a white suit hops out of the vehicle. He hobbles through the puddles of water carrying a cane. He makes his way over to a big gray box rooted in the ground.

HAMMONDThis ought to hamper their little venture.

Hammond pries it open. There is an LCD screen with a keyboard. Hammond hacks through the system and types something we don’t see. Then he closes the box and walks away with a grin.

38.

Page 40: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - DAY

The construction site is more built up than ever. It’s actually starting to look like a park. There are workers busily getting thing prepared; every little detail, from the placement of rocks, to the angle of the lights. Nothing is too small to look over.

Eddie walks to the gate at front. He looks up and guides the crawler crane operator with his hand gestures, the one holding the big electronic sign.

EDDIEA little to the left!

(looking)Yeah! That’s it!

The crane lowers the sign, somehow, perfectly onto the ground. It looks great, angled just right for visitors to see.

Eddie gives a thumbs-up. The crane swings away and leaves. Eddie grabs a cord from the back and connects it into an outdoor socket.

The sign lights up: LOADING WIRELESS INFORMATION

The loading bar completes, 100%. Eddie smiles.

A message pops up: WELCOME TO JURASSIC HAZARD

EDDIE(to self)

What the hell?(to others)

Alright?! Who’s the wise-guy?! Whoever it is, you’re fired!

EXT. SASHA’S HOUSE - BACKYARD - DAY

Max is in Sasha’s backyard, throwing pebbles at the window on the left.

MAXSasha! Come on! Talk to me! I’m sorry about the argument we had!

The window opens. An older man sticks his head out the window, SASHA’S FATHER.

39.

Page 41: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

SASHA’S FATHERFor the love of Pete! The other window boy!

MAXSorry!

Max throws a pebble on the window to the right. The window opens.

MAXSasha!

Sasha sticks her head out.

SASHAWe broke up remember?

MAXThat protest wasn’t even about the dinos and you know it!

SASHAI know! That’s why we have to stay broken up, otherwise I’ll look like a doofus. Although my IQ does border on that of a genius.

SASHA130.

MAX130.

MAXYeah, okay. We all know.

SASHAJust saying.

MAXSo, can we get back together or what?

SASHADon’t be so desperate, Max. We always get back together. It’s just an episode. I need some space.

MAXBut I have tickets for Jurassic Park!

Max shows the tickets he swiped from Eddie’s trailer.

40.

Page 42: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

SASHAYou just don’t get it do you? I’m against it!

MAXWhy?

SASHAMy dad was a scientist on the ol’JP.

MAXHe was a scientist on the original Jurassic Park?!

Sasha throws one of her stuffed toys out the window, at Max’s head.

SASHAKeep it down would you!

MAXSo are we going to Jurassic Park or what?

SASHAYou really don’t -- ugh!

Sasha slams her window shut.

MAXSasha! So what’s the answer?!

EXT. GRANT’S HOUSE - MAIN STAIRS - DAY

Max creeps down the stairs, very slowly, trying to keep quiet against the creaking and squeaking.

GRANT (OS)You’re not going to Jurassic Park are you?!

MAX(to self)

Crap.(to Grant)

Yeah...

GRANT (OS)I’m coming!

41.

Page 43: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXWhat?

Grant joins Max on the stairs.

GRANTI said I was coming.

MAXI thought you...

GRANTI can’t stop you from going, so I’m coming with you.

MAXGonna try and stop a dino rampage, huh?

GRANTDon’t joke about that.

Grant puts on his famous hat.

EXT. NEW JURASSIC PARK - DAY

Grant and Max walk up to the humongous gates as a sea of people easily walk past them. Grant is extremely apprehensive.

GRANTI know it’s not the same, but it still gives me a chill.

MAXYou never know if you don’t try.

GRANTProblem is, I have.

EXT. NEW JURASSIC PARK - INSIDE GROUNDS - DAY

Grant, still cynical as ever, stares at the smiling families, posing with the dinosaur statues.

GRANTOh they have no idea...

Max takes Grant by his arm.

42.

Page 44: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXCome on, this is the safety zone. The dinosaurs are up ahead.

GRANTBut --

Max grabs Grant and drags him along.

EXT. COASTER ZONE - START AREA - DAY

Max and Grant are inside a car, reminiscent of the old, Jurassic Park... Except these vehicles have no roofs

GRANTThis is crazy. These things don’t even have roofs.

There’s another set of people in the vehicle. The LITTLE BOY with the stuffed dino looks at Grant.

LITTLE BOYThe park shuts down at night and when it rains. The place is solar powered. There’s no need for a roof.

GRANTYou obviously haven’t been around dinosaurs.

The cars speed up and go further down, past the flat plain land and into the denser jungle.

EXT. COASTER ZONE - JUNGLE AREA - DAY

There are no wires or barriers to keep the dinosaurs away. Grant of course notices this right away.

GRANTNo fences. No barriers. This is madness.

MAXDad, you’re bein’ a buzz-kill. Enjoy it for what it is.

EXT. AMONGST THE TREES - DAY

An unseen creatures gallops, running fast, running forward.

43.

Page 45: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. COASTER ZONE - JUNGLE AREA - DAY

A raptor jumps out from the bushes. It shrieks and flashes its teeth. Everyone but Grant and Max becomes startled. His eyes look down and see the creature has a thick cable attached to its leg.

GRANTHow clever...

The raptor tries to tug itself forward, looking at the tourists like they’re the next meal.

MAX(stunned)

Wow. A real velociraptor... Hey what if somebody crazy decides to jump outta these things?

GRANTThey’re lunch.

LITTLE BOYActually the cables have hollow tubes attached in ‘em. If a passenger jumps out of the vehicle, a sedative is released into all carnivorous creature... and if that doesn’t work it has electric wires to zap ‘em... It’s also to prevent chewing.

MAXYou seem to know a lot about this stuff.

LITTLE BOYI’ve been preparing for the grand opening all my life.

MAXAll your life? How old are you?

The Little Boy raises his fingers, gesturing seven. Max raises an eyebrow. The car starts moving forward. It takes them toward the tunnel area.

44.

Page 46: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. COASTER ZONE - TUNNEL AREA - DAY

The cars go underground into the tunnel area. It’s lit by an orange light, torches lined against the wall. A very eerie atmosphere.

MAXWhat do you think we’ll see in here?

GRANTNot something good I assure you.

The car stops by an enormous glass panel, part of an aquarium.

MAX(excited)

Oh no. Oh no. We’re going to see, sea creatures!

One of the passengers takes a picture. The bright flash dazes grant. He rubs his eyes.

GRANTI don’t see anything...

LITTLE BOY I bet it’s a T-rex.

MAXT-rexes don’t go under water.

LITTLE BOYGimme a break, I’m seven years old.

Max turns back, stares at the glass. The car starts moving.

MAXHey! What a rip-off! We never saw anything.

As Max leans out of the car, Grant pulls him in.

SPEAKER IN CAR (VO)Please do not lean out the vehicle.

EXT. NEW JURASSIC PARK - DAY

Grant and Max are leaving the park.

45.

Page 47: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXMan! What a rip-off. I hardly saw anything.

GRANTIt’s probably for the better.

MAXI’m glad we got these tickets free. You know how much it costs to get in? A hundred bucks!

GRANTMax, there’s no need to complain... It’s a well run park.

MAXThat’s not what you said the last time you went.

GRANTThose were different circumstances... Very different.

A HEFTY MAN in a blue suit accidentally bumps into Grant, causing his hat to fall.

HEFTY MAN(face not seen)

I’m terrible sorry.

Grant and the Hefty Man bend over at the same time. Their eyes meet. AL GORE smiles. He grabs Grant’s hat and hands it back to him.

MAXIs that?

GRANTAl Gore!

AL GOREThat’s me, alright.

(smiles)So nice to meet you Dr. Grant. I loved your book.

Al Gore shakes Grant’s hand.

GRANTI never knew you had such a keen interest in dinosaurs.

46.

Page 48: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

AL GOREActually, I’m visiting the park to commend them on their environmentally friendly practices. The park uses 100% alternative energy -- mainly solar power... Oh and I also received free tickets.

(jokingly)Who doesn’t want to see dinosaurs for free, am I right?

GRANTYes...

AL GORESo are you gents environmentally friendly? If you don’t mind my asking.

MAXWe try.

AL GOREYou know, global warming is an important issue -- especially in California. The west coast is one of the most vulnerable areas.

MAXI think it’s pretty safe.

AL GORETo each his own I suppose... It was nice meeting you, Dr. Grant.

(looks at Max)And...

MAXMax.

AL GOREYes, Max. Nice meeting you both.

Al Gore nods. Grant tips his hat as he walks away into the park.

GRANT(to Max)

Now surely you cannot say your visit was boring.

MAXPure luck. The park stills stinks.

47.

Page 49: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANTYeah -- too many dinosaurs.

EXT. LONELY ROAD - DAY

A boxy Hertz RENTAL CAR whizzes down the road, through the rain, thunder, and lightning.

INT. LONELY ROAD - RENTAL CAR - DAY

Ellie squints as water pounds down against her windshield, the wipers going back and forth. She turns on the radio.

RADIO (VO)Look out Californians! We are going through some severe weather! Take out the umbrella, the cats and dogs are falling! It is strongly advised that you do not drive in this stormy weather.

ELLIENow he tells me.

RADIO (VO)Stay indoors and lock the windows! A hurricane warning is in effect. If you are bombarded by hail, please do not --

The radio fizzles and goes out. Ellie reaches for the big black knob and turns it off. She continues driving, struggling to see where she is.

ELLIEGod, where the hell am I?

Ellie brakes. She reaches into the glove compartment and takes out a map. As she reads the map a baseball size chunk of hail falls onto her windshield -- crack!

ELLIE(screams)

Jesus!

Ellie folds the map and throws it to the side. She steps on the gas.

48.

Page 50: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. LONELY ROAD - DAY

The car moves forward, the front wheel falls into a pothole full of water.

INT. LONELY ROAD - RENTAL CAR - DAY

Ellie tries to gas it, but her car is totally stuck.

ELLIEDamn it...

Ellie grabs a magazine wedged between the seats, she jumps out the car and uses it for cover. She looks at the stuck wheel. Then she takes out a cell-phone.

INT. GRANT’S HOUSE - GRANT’S ROOM - DAY

Grant is putting supplies into a large green military back pack, when the phone on his night stand rings. He drops what he’s doing and goes to answer it. The reception is not very clear.

GRANT(on phone)

Hello?

INTERCUT TELEPHONE CONVERSATION

ELLIE(on phone, in car)

Grant!

GRANTEllie?

ELLIEI need some help.

GRANTWhere are you?

ELLIEI’m on the road -- stuck!

GRANTWhat’re you doing on the road? Everyone’s evacuating the city.

49.

Page 51: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

ELLIEWhat?

GRANTThere might be a flood... There’s something wrong with the dam.

ELLIEJust come and get me will you?

GRANTYou want me to go out in the midst of hurricane weather? You gotta be kidding.

ELLIEGrant!

GRANTI’m only teasing! I’ll be over there in a minute. Where are you?

INT. LONELY ROAD - MAX’S CAR - DAY

Grant is driving Max’s car. Max in the backseat with his arms folded.

MAXI still don’t see why you won’t let me drive. It’s my car!

GRANTI paid for it... Plus, I’m a better driver.

MAXYeah right.

Grant sees Ellie waving in the rain.

EXT. LONELY ROAD - DAY

The Cadillac stops by Ellie. The front right door swings open. Ellie, dripping wet, gets inside.

INT. LONELY ROAD - MAX’S CAR - DAY

Ellie shivers as Grant spins the car around and drives in the opposite direction.

50.

Page 52: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

ELLIEThanks for coming so soon.

GRANTIt was nothing.

ELLIESo there’s a hurricane, huh?

GRANTApparently. We’re going to leave the city... Only temporarily of course.

ELLIEThe weather here is never usually this bad. It’s unusual.

GRANTWhen’s the last time you been here?

ELLIEI was fifteen.

GRANTWell, there you go. Times change.

MAXWill you two stop flirting with each other, please?

GRANTMax, don’t be so rude. We’re not flirting with each other...

(look to Ellie)Are we?

ELLIEI guess some flames never die.

MAX(rolls eyes)

Oh my God.

EXT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - DAY

The Cadillac slows down as a long line of cars appears ahead.

INT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - MAX’S CAR - DAY

Max wipes the fog off his window and looks.

51.

Page 53: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXJeez that’s a long line up.

GRANTPatience is a virtue.

MAXI don’t even know what that means.

GRANTIt means to pipe down... It’s not so bad.

MAXCompared to what?

GRANTExactly.

EXT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - DAY

The cars are going mad, people honking their horns and screaming. But Grant is calm, he slowly moves the car forward.

INT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - MAX’S CAR - DAY

Ellie slumps back.

ELLIEThis is the pits.

MAXSpeaking of the pits... Dad, can I use your cell-phone? I gotta call Sasha, see if she made it outta the city.

GRANTIt’s not gonna work.

MAXHow do you know?

GRANTTrust me. Not in this weather. Lines must be jammed with people calling their loved ones.

MAXWill you just --

52.

Page 54: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

Grant tosses Max the cell-phone. He picks it up and dials, Sasha. He puts the phone to his ear and waits.

GRANTWell?

Max frowns and gives the cell-phone back to Grant.

GRANTI’m sure she’s fine.

EXT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - DAY

A tidal wave washes out the bridge, taking the car in people into the “drink.”

INT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - MAX’S CAR - DAY

Grant, Ellie and Max lean forward and look in shock.

MAXDid you just --

EXT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - DAY

A car in the back bumps into Max’s Cadillac, pushing it forward. More cars fall into the water.

INT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - MAX’S CAR - DAY

Grant looks in his rearview mirror.

GRANTWhat the...

The car is moving forward.

ELLIEThe bridge is out.

GRANTIt’s not me. I’m not...

Grant steps on the brake, the car keeps moving. Grant looks in the rearview mirror, sees the car pushing forward. Grant winds down his window and screams outside.

GRANTThe bridge is out! Can’t you see!

53.

Page 55: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

INT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - OTHER CAR - DAY

An old lady with coke bottle glasses steps on the gas. She can barely see.

EXT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - DAY

Max’s car keeps moving forward. The old lady keeps pushing against the bumper.

INT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - MAX’S CAR - DAY

Grant puts the car in reverse.

GRANTCome on.

The car barely budges.

GRANTWhat’s wrong with this piece of junk?!

MAXWhy do you think I asked you for all that money last week?! I needed cash for a new set of tires... These are bald!

EXT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - DAY

Max’s car is the last vehicle, besides the old lady pushing, ahead the remains of the bridge. It’s being pushed to the edge.

INT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - MAX’S CAR

Grant tries to turn the wheel.

MAXTurn the wheel, get this thing around!

GRANTCan’t you see I’m trying that!

MAXTry harder!

54.

Page 56: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANTGet ready to jump!

MAXWhat?!

EXT. BEFORE THE BRIDGE - DAY

Grant, Ellie, and Max jump out of the car. It falls into the water and gets swept away. Grant gets up, angrily. He goes up to the last standing car, the one with the old lady.

GRANTWhat’s wrong with you?! You almost killed my wife and kid?!

ELLIEHuh?

GRANT(flustered)

I mean -- YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!

No response. Grant opens the car door of the BUICK. The old lady is passed out. Grant leans over and puts two of his fingers on her neck to check her pulse. She’s dead.

GRANTShe’d dead.

EXT. LONELY ROAD - DAY

The old lady’s car, the Buick, speeds down the road.

INT. LONELY ROAD - OLD LADY’S CAR - DAY

Grant and Ellie are up front. Max is in the back cornered with the old lady’s corpse.

MAXUh... Can we switch seats?

GRANTWhat’s wrong? Not enough room back there?

MAXA mansion wouldn’t be enough room.

55.

Page 57: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. NEW JURASSIC PARK - DAY

The water is getting high, several inches.

EXT. SOLAR PANEL FIELD - DAY

A park worker surveys the solar panel field. He looks up at the sky, the clouds covering every bit of the sun.

INT. POWER CENTER - DAY

A worker sits down at a computer monitoring the energy levels, they’re quickly depleting. GEORGE turns his head back to Eddie.

GEORGESir, I don’t think we’ll have enough power to run the park. It’s too cloudy.

Eddie takes a sip from his glass of scotch.

EDDIEWhat do you mean there isn’t enough power? What about battery storage?

GEORGESame thing.

(clicks around on computer)

I think we overestimated its capabilities.

EDDIEWind?

GEORGEKnocked out. The wind knocked ‘em down.

EDDIEUse the gas.

GEORGEI don’t think there’s enough.

EDDIEDon’t patronize me.

56.

Page 58: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

George moves the mouse cursor and clicks on an icon to engage gas usage.

EXT. WATERY ROAD - DAY

The Buick’s wheels roll through the water.

INT. WATERY ROAD - OLD LADY’S CAR - DAY

Max is at the back of the car, sitting in the middle, the old lady is gone.

MAXWhere are we going?

GRANTI don’t know.

MAXBut you’re dad. You gotta know.

GRANTParents seem like they know everything -- but it’s usually just ad-lib.

MAXAnd you’re telling me this now?

GRANTMax, stop chattering. Look to see if there’s any place we can take shelter.

Max rolls down his window and sticks his head out. The rain falls on his face as he looks up at large hotel building.

MAXHey how about that?

Grant looks out and stops the car.

GRANTI don’t know. Do they take VISA?

Ellie getes out of the car.

GRANTEllie, wait!

Grant and Max get out.

57.

Page 59: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. BIG HOTEL - DAY

Ellie wades through the water. She gets to the front doors and tugs on the large golden handle, “Ugh!”

GRANTHold on...

Grant goes to help Ellie. They both pull on the door handle. The pressure of the water, the rising water, is keeping it close.

MAXSimplify!

Max kicks the glass of the door and steps inside. Grant and Ellie follow.

GRANT(shrugs)

It is effective.

INT. BIG HOTEL - LOBBY - DAY

Max, Ellie and Grant walk cautiously through the lobby. It’s very luxurious. High ceilings. Lots of room. Gotta be at least 4 stars.

MAXYou think anyone else is here?

(shouting, hands around mouth)

Hellooooo!

GRANTHold on a moment.

Grant sits down on a chair.

GRANTI need to rest.

MAXCome on, let’s look around.

GRANTTell me if you find anything.

Grant rests his hat over his face.

58.

Page 60: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXBut...

ELLIEI’ll come with you.

MAXOh, okay.

GRANTDon’t get in trouble.

INT. BIG HOTEL STAIRWELL - DAY

Max and Ellie trek up the water soaked stairs.

MAXWhat was it like in the original Jurassic Park?

ELLIEIt’s not like the one they have now.

MAXIf I met a T-rex, I don’t think I could stay still. I’d run.

ELLIEMost people would.

MAX...So you and my dad used to be an item, huh?

ELLIEI guess you could say that.

MAXWhat do you see in him? I mean no offence, but he’s kind of boring.

ELLIEHe has courage when it counts.

MAXThat’s a quality women look for in men?

ELLIEI guess. Damsel in distress, right?

59.

Page 61: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXHmmm...

A noise echoes in the stairwell. A loud THUMP. Max puts his arm out in front of Ellie and stops in his “tracks.”

MAXWhat was that?

ELLIEIt’s probably nothing.

MAXI should check it out. You stay here, m -- an.

Max’s face goes flush red, embarrassed, almost calling Ellie his mom.

MAXYou stay here, maaan. I’ll check it out.

Ellie raises an eyebrow. Max continues up the steps. The noise happens again. Max gets to a dark corner. He takes out a little LED flashlight and shines it down. It barely lights up the place.

MAXI come in peace!

Max slowly walks up, a kid named RAVEN pops out at him.

RAVENBOOOOOOOOO!

CUT TO:

Max tumbles down the stairs in front of Ellie.

ELLIEMax!

(bends down beside)Are you alright?

Max rubs his head and gets up. Raven runs down the stairs.

RAVENSorry ‘bout your head!

MAX(pissed)

Yeah, well...

60.

Page 62: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

Raven gives a broad smile. One of her teeth is missing. She’s probably no older than ten.

MAXOkay.

EXT. NEW JURASSIC PARK - DAY

The gates to the new, Jurassic Park, are busted open. The marquee is hanging down and there are smears of blood along the battered and splintered doors.

INT. PRESIDENTIAL SUITE - FRONT - DAY

The doorknob at the front door slowly turns, Raven leads Ellie, Max, and Grant inside.

RAVENThis is where I’m staying. My name’s Raven by the way.

They walk forward, into the living room.

INT. PRESIDENTIAL SUITE - LIVING ROOM - DAY.

Grant’s eyes wander around the presidential suite, he gazes at the abundant luxuries. The place looks better than his own home.

RAVENYou’re welcome to be my guests if you’d like.

GRANTAre you here all alone?

RAVENNo. Buddy’s with me.

ELLIEWho’s Buddy?

Raven pats the dead space beside her, like there’s something there.

RAVENMy imaginary pet monkey, Buddy.

(turns)Say hello, buddy!

61.

Page 63: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXLet’s find our own rooms.

RAVENOh no. You can’t.

MAXAnd why not?

RAVENYou’ll be lonely... Plus, this place has the best view.

Raven runs to the curtains and pulls them open. There is indeed a great view, looking over the whole city.

RAVENStay won’t you? I gathered all the supplies we need to last for the entire storm season.

MAXYou mean you ransacked all the rooms and brought everything here.

RAVENSemantics.

GRANTOkay, we’ll keep you company.

CUT TO:

Grant, Ellie, Max, and Raven are sitting down on the couches sipping hot cocoa. They are washed in a warm glow emanating from the roaring fireplace.

RAVENHow’s the hot cocoa, Mr. Grant?

GRANTVery nice, thank you.

MAX(chews on marshmallow)

When do you think this thing will be over?

The noise of the rain against the windows gets louder.

ELLIESoon I hope.

62.

Page 64: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

The sound of an OPENING DOOR is heard. Grant looks behind his shoulder.

GRANTI thought you said you were alone, Raven.

RAVENI never said that.

A figures emerges from the shadow -- IAN Malcolm. He has a towel around his head.

IANCompany! Oh my! I look like a mess!

Ian puts his towel down as Grant and Ellie stand up to greet him.

GRANTIan.

(starts to set in)Ian?

IANThat’s my name, don’t wear it out.

ELLIEWhat are you doing here?

IANI can ask the same question. But I presume you came to escape the chaos -- that which I mean the really bad weather... That’s a bit of an understatement, don’t yahthink?

Ian walks around Grant and sits down. Ellie and Grant do the same as well.

IANThis is like a family reunion, huh?

(points to Max)Except I don’t recognize you.

GRANTThat’s my son, Max.

Ian nods.

63.

Page 65: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

IANYou look just like your dad... So might I ask where the missis is?

GRANTShe’s no longer with us.

IANOh my God! She didn’t --

GRANTNo. This was long before.

IANWell I’m sorry to hear, anyway.

GRANT(looking at Raven)

So who’s the little sprite in your life?

IANI really don’t know. She just told me her name was Raven.

GRANTYou mean you don’t know her?

IANI... I wish I did. But she’s tight as a clam.

GRANTSo are you lost like the rest of us, Ian? What are you doing here?

IANIn this building? Or do you mean in general? In general... I’m just on vacation.

ELLIESome vacation, huh?

IANIt’s certainly better than the one we had in 1993...

GRANTThat memory never dies does it?

64.

Page 66: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

IANChaos is not easily forgotten... And I don’t mean the Bush administration.

Max stands up.

MAXI have to go out for a minute.

(bit nervous)I uh need to take a walk.

Raven stands up too.

RAVENTake me with you.

MAXSorry. I don’t hang out with kids.

GRANT(stern)

Take her with you...

MAXAlright, fine.

(to Raven)But if you get on my nerves, I’ll --

Raven looks up Max with her big beady eyes.

MAXI’ll be pretty angry.

EXT. BIG HOTEL - DAY

Max walks along with Raven as she happily splashes around in the water.

RAVENLa! La! La! La! La! La! La! La! La!

MAXWill you stop that?

Raven and Max get under a tree. It protects them from the rain. Max reaches into his pocket and takes out a pack of cigarettes.

RAVEN(shocked)

Awwwwwwwwwwww!

65.

Page 67: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXWhat? What is that noise?

RAVENAwww, you can’t smoke.

MAXWho says?

RAVENIt’s bad for you. So says the Sturgeon General.

MAXScrew that fish. I need a smoke.

Max takes out a cigarette. It flogs over, soggy from water.

MAXAw just great. Now what?

Raven takes out a pack of Popeye candy sticks.

RAVENYou can have one of mine if you want.

Max looks at it.

MAX...Yeah, alright.

Raven flips open the box. Max takes a candy stick, put it in his mouth like a toothpick.

RAVENHow’s it taste?

MAX(takes a bite)

Like sugared chalk.

A loud BABOOM is heard. Raven screams. She runs to Max and hugs his leg.

MAXRelax it’s just thunder.

It happens again. BABOOM.

MAXI think it’s thunder.

66.

Page 68: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

Max looks down. The BABOOM happens again. Concentric circles form in the water around his ankles. A T-REX ROAR bellows.

MAXI think we better get back to the hotel.

Max takes Raven by the hand, as they run for the hotel a T-rex twists around the corner and appears in front of them. Raven screams. Max covers her mouth.

MAXDon’t move.

Raven squirms. The T-rex lowers its head and looks at her.

MAX(low voice)

If you don’t move, he can’t see you. A T-rex is stimulated by motion. Just stay still.

The T-rex roars. The wind and spittle pushes back Max and Raven’s hair. Raven gets scared. She pulls away from Max and she starts to run in the opposite direction. Max follows her.

MAXI told you not to run!

The T-rex’s little arms hang down as it chases Max and Raven. Raven turns into an alleway, Max goes there too.

EXT. ALLEWAY - DAY

Max and Raven run to the back, by the big brick wall, the dead end. The T-rex tries to squish between the buildings. It snaps its jaws trying to reach.

MAXWe’re trapped.

RAVENWhat do we do? What do we do?!

Max picks up a garbage can lid.

MAXEver play frisbee with a dog?

Max pulls back the lid.

67.

Page 69: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXOn the count of three. One... Two... THREE!

Max throws the lid. It whirls over the T-rex’s head. The T-rex turns around. Max and Raven run between its legs.

EXT. BIG HOTEL - DAY

Max and Raven run as the T-rex chases after them. They go through the glass door. The T-rex sticks its head through.

MAXHa! Can’t get in can you?

Max picks up a pebble from the floor and flings it at the T-rex. The T-rex roars. It shoves its body through.

MAXOh shit.

The T-rex swings its tail around. Max and Raven duck out the way. They jump over the couches and run as they T-rex chases behind. They turn a corner into the hallway with elevators.

INT. ELEVATOR AREA - DAY

Max presses the up button for the elevator while holding Raven’s hand. The elevator doors open. A T-rex taps its toe on the floor and looks at Max and Raven.

Max and Raven fall back. They scramble to their feet and run toward the direction of the T-rex. They stop in their track.

MAXOh right, the T-rex.

They look behind and slowly walk backward, toward the middle of the hall, the elevator area. The raptor starts to run. Max and Raven duck down. It jumps forward -- right onto the T-rex’s head.

The T-rex pulls back and swings around. Max pulls up Raven.

MAXC’mon.

He takes her into the elevator.

68.

Page 70: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

INT. PRESIDENTIAL SUITE - FRONT - DAY

There is a large hole in the front door, through which Max uses to look in.

MAXAw no...

RAVEN (OS)What?

MAXHole equals bad.

RAVEN (OS)Just go in.

MAXRaven don’ --

Raven tries turning the doorknob, the whole thing falls forward.

MAXSee what yah did?

RAVENSorry.

MAXLet’s go. Try not to make any noise.

Raven pretends to zip her mouth. She and Max slowly walk into the presidential suite, into the living room.

INT. PRESIDENTIAL SUITE - LIVING ROOM - DAY

Their eyes go immediately to the flipped over couches.

MAXStay here.

RAVENBut --

MAXDO NOT move.

Max grabs a lamp, wielding it like a weapon. He cautiously walks over to the long three person couch.

69.

Page 71: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

As Raven stands quietly, a Dilophosaur appears behind in the doorway. It leaps over to her and stands by her leg, also watching as well.

RAVEN(notices)

Max?

MAXNot now. I’m busy.

The Dilophosaur spreads out its frill.

RAVENMax!

MAX(turns around)

What?!

The Dilophosaur jumps up onto one of the flipped over couches and makes a rattling noise at Max.

MAXDon’t make any sudden movements...

Raven starts backing away, when she accidentally falls down. The noise startles the Dilophosaur, it turns around and screeches.

Max tosses the lamp. It smashes into the Dilophosaur’s back, knocking it over. Max jumps over the couch and grabs Raven by the hand. The Dilophosaur shakes its head, dazed from the attack.

Max and Raven run to the west wing of the suite.

INT. PRESIDENTIAL SUITE - WEST WING - DAY

They go into a door.

INT. PRESIDENTIAL SUITE - BATHROOM - DAY

Max and Raven find themselves in a bathroom. They hear the noise of the wily Dilophosaur from outside.

MAXRaven, you okay?

RAVENYeah...

70.

Page 72: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

The shower curtain behind suddenly pulls open. Max and Raven become startled. Ian Malcolm is in the freestanding tub.

IAN(jokingly)

Would you mind? I’m trying to have some privacy here.

Raven hugs Ian.

RAVENDr. Malcolm!

MAXWhere’s everybody else?

IANThey went looking for you.

MAXDidn’t they know I went outside for a smoke?

IANYou smoke. Oh, that’s bad.

MAXI know, I know.

IANGrant thought you went looking for your girlfriend. They uh took a raft outside. Search and rescue.

MAXI gotta go get them.

IANNo, no, no. That’s not a good idea. Stay here. I assure you they will come back.

Raven climbs into the tub with Ian.

MAXI have to...

Max reaches for the doorknob.

IANAre you going to go back -- where the dinosaur are?

71.

Page 73: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

Ian adjusts his glasses.

IANI think that’s a bad idea.

Max starts to turn the doorknob.

IAN(points to window)

No, no. Go out the express route.

MAXHuh?

IANGo out the window.

MAXWe’re five floors up.

Ian gets up and lifts the window.

IANTake a look.

Max goes to look. The flood is super high. It’s only a couple feet to hit the water.

MAXOkay, so what am I gonna use as a boat?

IANThere’s one right.

MAX(looks)

Where?

Ian taps on the bathtub.

IANA little duct tape and she is ready to go.

Ian takes out a roll of duct tape.

MAXYou carry around duct tape?

IANNever can be too prepared my friend.

72.

Page 74: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

Ian duct tapes the hole shut in the bath tub. Lots and lots of tape.

IANThere. I think that should hold for your excursion.

EXT. FLOODED BOULEVARD - DAY

Grant and Ellie are together in an inflated raft, rowing.

ELLIEThat boy of yours is awfully rash... I think he gets it from you.

Grant tilts his head to the side, “Probably.” Ellie pauses from rowing, she lifts up a pair of binoculars and looks down the boulevard... or what’s left of it.

ELLIEHe must’ve gone back.

Ellie wipes the fog off the front of her binoculars.

GRANTLet’s keep looking a bit longer.

Grant squints and sees a motorboat. It spins around and pulls up to the raft. There is a man with a dog.

The man’s name is HUNTER. The dog’s name is RUSTY.

HUNTERYou think you can survive in this weather with that lil rubber raft?

GRANTI’m looking for my son...

HUNTERTrust me. You won’t find anybody in that piece of shit.

ELLIEAre you offering us a ride?

HUNTERHop in.

Grant reluctantly gets into the boat. Ellie does too.

73.

Page 75: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

HUNTERNow that I’m trying to make friends here -- but just so you know, my name’s Hunter. And my dog, his name is Rusty.

ELLIE(pats dog)

Good boy.

Rusty barks.

GRANTI know it’s not very sturdy, but I think we should keep the raft.

HUNTERRight! Never a bad idea to be over-prepared... There’s a rope in the cooler.

Grant goes into the orange cooler and takes out a yellow rope. He ties the raft to the motorboat. He gives a thumbs up to Hunter.

Hunter pushes forward on the throttle.

CUT TO:

The motorboat speeds along the water. Hunter pulls back on the throttle and stops.

GRANTWhy are we stopping?

HUNTERI need some gas.

GRANTWhere are you going to get gas from?

Hunter takes off his shirt and dives underwater. Several seconds pass. Hunter pops up with a gas nozzle.

ELLIEI didn’t know those things could reach that far.

Hunter puts the gas nozzle into his boat.

74.

Page 76: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

HUNTER(pumping gas)

It’s a new gas station. The uh hoses hang from the ceiling.

(finishes)

Hunter tries climbing back onto the boat, when something pulls at him in the water.

HUNTERWhat the?!

It pulls again. Grant and Ellie grabs Hunter as the dog, Rusty, wildly barks.

GRANTHang on!

Grant and Ellie pull, but the wet Hunter slips away into the water. A cloud of blood rises to the surface.

ELLIECan dinosaurs swim?

A POPPING noise catches Ellie and Grant’s attention. They look back at the deflating raft. Suddenly the boat starts to rock. Grant and Ellie slip and fall over. They hang onto the sides, trying to keep from going into the water.

The nose of the motorboat starts to tilt upward, slowly going vertical.

ELLIEI can’t hold on!

Ellie loses her grip, she and Rusty catch on to Grant’s leg.

GRANTEllie!

The motorboat tilts more. Ellie slides off into the water. The boat suddenly slams back down. An enormous green tail splashes in front.

Ellie pops her head out of the water. Grant pulls her in as the head of a Dakosaurus surfaces from behind. He dashes to the front of the motorboat and pushes the throttle forward. He takes control as the Dakosaurus chases them.

ELLIE(looks back)

What is that thing?

75.

Page 77: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

GRANT(steering)

I would take a closer look at tell you, but I’m not so sure I want to do that!

ELLIEDakosaurus! It’s a dakosaurus!

The motorboat takes a corner and does a drift. The Dakosaurus is catching up, only several feet away.

GRANTThrow the dog!

ELLIEWhat?!

GRANTIt’ll distract him!

Ellie looks at Rusty. Rust whimpers and covers his eyes. Ellie looks in the cooler as the Dakosaurus zigzags, making waves in the water. She finds a pistol. She takes it out and aims it.

Three shots. Bang! Bang! Bang! The Dakosaurus submerges underwater.

ELLIEI think scared it off!

The Dakosaurus rises from the water, it jumps up and flips in front of the motorboat. The motorboat turns and capsizes. It sinks down.

Ellie, Grant and Rusty tread water as the water motions around them, The Dakosaurus underneath, circling.

GRANTI think this is the end, Ellie...

Max suddenly appears in his bathtub. He waves at Grant.

MAXDad!

GRANTMax! Get out of here!

The Dakosaurus starts swimming toward Max. Max tries to paddle away with a pair of bathroom plungers.

76.

Page 78: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

As the Dakosaurus leaps up into the air, the head of an Elasmosaurus arises and snaps on to its tail. It takes the Dakosaurus and swings it around, throwing it straight through a building.

The Elasmosaurus bows its neck and looks down at Max. Max sinks down and cowers. The Elasmosaurus brings itself closer, it’s a harmless creature. Seeing this, Max pets its head.

MAXYou’re not such a bad guy are you?

The Elasmosaurus lets out a sound of contentedness, like a happy dolphin. Then it sinks away into the water. Grant, Ellie, and Rusty join Max.

ELLIEMind if we hitch a ride?

Max picks up Rusty and puts him in the tub.

MAXFollow me.

He spins the boat and moves forward. Grant and Ellie follow behind, slowly swimming. Max stops the boat over a flat area of water. He gets out and stands up. He’s standing on water.

MAXTada!

GRANTHow?

Grant and Ellie swim ahead, they crawl and stand up to.

MAXRemember Dad? The convention center!

GRANT (CONT’D)They have boats down there.

Grant bends over and looks. Underneath the glass roof are a ton of boats. Big boats.

GRANTThere are boats.

ELLIEHow are we going to get them? Do they even have gas?

77.

Page 79: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXYeah, yeah. This convention’s crazy. Biggest boat convention in the country. They go all out.

Rusty chases his tail around in the bathtub.

GRANT(points)

Get on that building.

Ellie looks back.

GRANTGet on the ledge... Max, go.

Max nods. He, Ellie and Rusty swim over to the building. They stand on the ledges.

ELLIEAlright! Now what, Alan?!

Grant stamps down. A CRACK noise is heard. He jumps and starts swimming toward the ledge. More CRACKING. A big hole forms as the glass gives way, water starts swirling in. Grant swims as hard as he can.

MAXHe’s not gonna make it!

Max jumps into the water. He hangs onto the ledge and extends his legs like a ladder. Ellie grabs onto the shoulder part of his clothes to keep him from getting sucked in. Grant grabs onto one of Max’s legs.

The water swirls and swirls. The convention center is filling up. Grant struggles to hold on.

MAXDon’t let go!

GRANTYou don’t have to tell me!

Rusty bites onto Max’s shirt, pulling along with Ellie, struggling to keep the two from getting swept away.

The whirlpool becomes weaker. The convention center stops filling. A large Boston Whaler buoys to the top.

CUT TO:

78.

Page 80: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. FLOODED STREET - DAY

Ellie steers the Boston Whaler. Max screams out.

MAXThere she is!

Ellie slows the boat down. Sasha is sitting on top of the roof of her house.

MAXSasha!

Max jumps into the water and swims over to her. He joins her on the roof. They embrace each other.

MAXI thought you were... Never mind.

SASHAI knew you’d come for me.

Max lets go of Sasha.

MAXWhere’s your family?

SASHAThey went away on a weekend trip. It’s just me.

Ellie pulls the boat around. Max and Sasha get on. Sasha, cordial as ever, smiles and greets Grant and Ellie.

SASHA(little wave)

Hello Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler.

Grant and Ellie nod.

MAXLet’s get out of here already.

SASHAWhere’re we gonna go?

Everyone looks to Grant.

GRANTI --

79.

Page 81: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

A SCREECH cuts off Grant. Everyone looks up. There is a trio of pterodactyls circling above like buzzards. A cap drops onto the floor of the boat.

Grant picks it up. It’s a Jurassic Park worker hat. There’s blood lined around on the inside.

GRANTEllie, start the boat.

Ellie tries... The boat sputters.

GRANT(looking up)

Ellie!

ELLIENo gas!

Sasha leans on Max. The pterodactyls land on the boat. The three of them hobble forward. As the group backs up, Rusty growls and flashes his fangs.

The trio flap their wings and squawk. One of them jumps forward and puts Rusty between its beak.

MAXHey!

Max dives to grab him, but falls flat when the pterodactyls take off into the sky. Rusty whimpers, his voice gets weaker the further he goes.

MAX(waving fist)

You bastards!

Grant puts his hands around Max’s shoulder, to comfort him.

GRANTIt’s okay.

Max shrugs away. Heavily annoyed.

MAXStop trying to act like things are okay! They’re not! They’re not!

SASHAMax. Don’t make a scene.

80.

Page 82: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

MAXHere we are in the middle of a... a disaster! And he’s trying to make it seem alright! Well it’s not! It’s not dad! There’s are dinosaurs trying to eat us!

Max sits down.

MAX(mumbles)

I’m having a nicotine fit...

The sound of a HELICOPTER is heard above. Grant, Ellie, Sasha, and Max look up at big black rescue chopper, a double blade CHINOOK.

A SOLDIER IN A HARNESS drops down.

SOLDIER IN HARNESSDr. Grant.

EXT. OVER CITY - RESCUE CHOPPER - DAY

The rain has stopped and the sky has cleared. The sun-sets as the rescue chopper flies over the flooded city -- which is barely recognizable. The place looks like a dystopian nightmare.

INT. RESCUE CHOPPER - DAY

Grant looks out the window.

GRANT(quietly)

When will people ever learn?

ELLIEAlan, sit down. Take a rest.

Grant sits down. He looks around at the others, Ellie, Max, Sasha, Ian, and Raven, tired and exhausted. Their eyes barely open.

RAVEN(leaning on Ian)

Where are they taking us Dr. Malcolm?

IANSomewhere with less water I hope.

81.

Page 83: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. SPORTS STADIUM - NIGHT

The dome sports stadium is being used as a rescue shelter.

INT. SPORTS STADIUM - NIGHT

There are a lot of people inside -- destitute, sick, and tired folks.

Grant and the others are all grouped together.

Max plays cards with Ian and Raven, while Ellie combs Sasha’s long black hair. Grant just stands. Watching over the place like a hawk.

IAN(dealing)

Alright the game is seven-card stud, aces high, aces low...

Raven holds her cards, unsure.

RAVENWhat?

IANYou do know how to play poker?

RAVENI uh... what’s poker?

IANAh, that’s right. You don’t gamble... Do you know how to play go-fish?

Raven darts her eyes.

IANNo? How about big-two?

RAVENBig-two?

IANCrazy eights. Everyone knows how to play crazy eights.

Raven shakes her head, nope.

82.

Page 84: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

IANWell. I really don’t know then...

RAVENBlackjack.

IANHuh?

RAVENI know how to play blackjack. 21, is that what they call it?

IANAh, so you do gamble. Okay. 21 it is. Hand me back your cards.

Max and Raven give Ian back their cards. He shuffles it up and deals. Raven looks at her hand, an ace and king. Max looks at his hand, two of hearts and a queen of hearts.

MAXHit me.

Ian gives Max another card. He looks. He has a five of diamonds.

MAXHit me.

IANYou sure?

MAXI’m sure.

Ian hands Max a card. Max gets a ten of clubs.

MAXDamn.

IANBust?

MAXNo. I meant ‘damn’ as in ‘damn that’s good.’

Max hides one of his cards in his back pocket.

IANThat’s some sleight of hand you got there...

83.

Page 85: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

but I remember how many cards I dealt you... Generally when you cheat you replace a card, not just put it away.

MAX(to strangers)

Anybody have a checker board?

CUT TO:

Ellie is still combing Sasha’s hair.

ELLIEHow long have you and Max been going out?

SASHAA really long time.

ELLIEHow long?

SASHAMm... couple weeks. I think we have a pretty stable relationship. We’ve really endured. Getting over that one week hump was real tough though.

ELLIETell me about it.

CUT TO:

Grant is walking around the superdome, when he bumps into a young boy holding a lamp. He looks around twelve or so -- a TWEEN.

TWEENDr. Grant. Are you Dr. Grant? The famous paleontologist?

Grant continues walking. The Tween follows him around.

TWEENYou know my uncle’s actually, Jack Horner. You might have heard of him?

Grant stops walking and turns to the Tween.

GRANT...How old are you?

84.

IAN (CONT'D)

Page 86: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

TWEENThirteen in November.

GRANTAnd you enjoy paleontology?

TWEENOh yes, very much so.

GRANTHave you ever played baseball?

TWEENNo. Why?

GRANTYou should.

Grant starts walking again. The Tween keeps following him.

TWEENIs it true dinosaurs and animals have a sixth sense? Like they can sense danger?

GRANTSome people would say that.

TWEENSo if a natural disaster or something like that were to hit a city, they’d know to escape?

GRANTI suppose.

TWEENWow. You know everything.

Grant stops and puts his arm around the Tween with approval.

EXT. SPORTS STADIUM - NIGHT

A T-rex foot stamps on the ground.

INT. SPORTS STADIUM - NIGHT

Everyone is asleep. They’re totally exhausted. Not a person is up -- nobody to notice the T-rex squeezing its way into the stadium.

85.

Page 87: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

It gets through the gate and starts exploring. The T-rex gracefully makes its way over to the catering table. It sticks out its tongue and scoops up the food, even eating the packaging.

As it munches down on the snacks, Raven starts to wake up. She rolls to the side on her cot and nudges Max. Though because of the darkness, she does not notice the T-rex.

RAVEN(whispering)

Max... Max!

MAX(half asleep)

What?

RAVENI need to go to the bathroom... Where’s the flashlight?

Max reaches under his cot and pushes out a flashlight. Raven grabs it.

RAVENThanks.

She gets up and turns it on. The light cuts through the dust, creating a beam. Raven wanders with her eyes half-close. The T-rex turns around and sees her. It follows her behind.

RAVENWhere’s the bathroom. Gotta be around here somewhere?

Raven stops walking. She shines her flashlight from side to side. The T-rex’s eyes closely follow it. Its vision being stimulated.

The T-rex steps forward and lowers its head by Raven. Its nostrils flare as it blows back her hair. Raven turns around, the flashlight pointing straight in the T-rex’s eye.

RAVENOh hello...

The T-rex ROARS. Raven drops the flashlight and covers her ears. Everyone in the sports stadium wakes up. Grant darts up from his cot.

GRANTRaven!

86.

Page 88: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

The whole stadium SCREAMS. The T-rex waves its head and ROARS. All the people start running. The T-rex swings away from Raven and starts chasing the others. It snaps up one of the people.

Grant, Ellie, Max, Sasha and Ian stay close together. They lay low and try to keep still. They’re the only ones. Sasha is scared out of her wits.

SASHAWhy aren’t we running with the others?!

MAXTrust me, my dad knows what he’s doing.

Sasha is on the floor too, lying still. She looks at Grant who nods his approval.

As the people crowd and try to escape at the gates, they create a bottle neck. They get stuck. The T-rex tramps over to them, sees them squirming like crabs in a bucket.

Screams, screams. More screams. They’re hysterical.

MAXI can’t watch!

Max jumps out.

SASHAMax!

He goes into a silver case and grabs a flare. He runs behind the T-rex and screams.

MAXHey! Hey!

Max lights the flare. Its bright yellow-orange light illuminates the stadium. The T-rex turns around.

MAXI’m looking at you ugly! Yeah! Remember me?!

Max starts running with the flare. He runs through the other gate.

87.

Page 89: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

EXT. SPORTS STADIUM - NIGHT

Max runs out of the Stadium. He suddenly stops and drops his flare. He puts out his hands in surrender. Ahead of him, standing in front -- the US army.

General CHARLIE bellows.

CHARLIEGet out of the way!

Max drops down as the T-rex emerges from the stadium. The army shine their lights.

CHARLIE(signals)

Fire at will!

They fire their guns. Max crawls along the ground as the bullets whiz over. The army stops shooting. The T-rex swaggers and falls down. Its body sinks into the asphalt. Blood flows onto the ground, swimming over to Max.

MAXAck!

Max gets up. He stands and leans against a tank. Charlie laughs, “HA! HA! HA!” A black stretch limo swerves in front of the T-rex and brakes. Eddie steps out, and without even glancing back, walks forward and joins Charlie.

He gives him a firm handshake.

EDDIEGeneral Charlie! Congratulations!

CHARLIEAnything for my little brother.

EDDIEHow long do you think it’ll be before we can get this mess cleaned up?

CHARLIEShouldn’t be too long. We got the threat under control.

EDDIE(looks at the T-rex)

It’s a shame. Such a majestic creature, fell by technology...

88.

Page 90: Jurassic Park IV Screenplay

Eddie puts on a pair of sunglasses.

EDDIEBut I guess that’s what happens when you have a brain the size of walnut.

CHARLIE(turns to men)

Alright! Let’s go!

Charlie hops in a tank, then he and the army leaves. As Eddie walks toward his limo, Max runs over to him.

MAXMr. Soros!

Eddie pauses and spins.

EDDIEHello there.

MAXYou’re the CEO of NuTech, right?

EDDIEThat would be true.

MAXJurassic Park. You created the new Jurassic Park.

EDDIEI had a hand in it, yes...

MAXI wanted to ask you if --

Max goes wide-eyed.

EDDIEYes?

The T-rex rises up behind.

MAXI --

EDDIEWhat is wrong with you?

The T-rex opens its mouth and scoops up Eddie into its mouth. It swallows him and fall down dead onto the stretch limo. Crushing it flat.

Grant, Ellie, Sasha, Raven, and Ian come out of the stadium.

RAVENWhoa...

Ian saunters over to the front of the T-rex and rests his head on its neck.

IAN(listening)

It’s definitely dead.

Grant circles around the carcass of the T-rex.

GRANTMax, what did you do?

A GROANING is heard. Grant pulls open the door on the driver side. The LIMO DRIVER crawls out. Grant helps him up.

LIMO DRIVERThank you.

The Limo driver hobbles away as the rest gather around Max. They look at the T-rex, wondering how such a large creature could die.

GRANTMan and dinosaur just weren’t meant to co-exist.

RAVENI’m tired.

MAXMe too.

The group turn from the T-rex. They walk away from the stadium, out onto the street. Their feet splash in the water.

EXT. HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD - NIGHT

As the group walks onto the boulevard they see it is completely ravaged, the place filled with a variety of dinosaurs, terrorizing the remaining people.

ELLIEAlan?

Grant squints. He sees an approaching tidal wave.

GRANTRun...

EXT. GALLERY TOWER - FRONT - NIGHT

Grant leads the gang and takes them over to a tower that looks like a pagoda -- an art gallery. He kicks in the glass door and the group runs inside.

They run up the spiralling stairs as the tidal wave crashes and the water follows them from behind, getting higher and higher. Not only that but there are also little fish creatures trailing at their heels, snapping like Piranha. Saurichthys.

As they run, Raven trips and falls. Grant picks her up and carries her in her arms. They get higher up the stairs.

EXT. GALLERY TOWER - ROOFTOP - NIGHT

The group gets to the flat rooftop. They stand and watch as the water sweeps away the dinosaurs, once again making them extinct.

A raptor snaps its jaws as it passes by.

A BIG BOAT comes down the water. It stops by the Gallery Tower, with Hammond at its helm. He waves and smiles in his classic white suit.

HAMMONDDr. Grant!

INT. BIG BOAT - DAY

Max is resting on a couch, between Sasha and Raven. Ellie is sitting on a wooden chair, wistfully looking out the circular window. Ian is wrapped in a blanket, sleeping a La-Z-Boy.

EXT. QUIET WATER - BIG BOAT - DAY

As the sunrises...

Dr. Grant is alone leaning on the guardrail of the deck. As he looks out, the door behind him opens. Hammond’s grandchildren, Tim and Lex, slowly come out.

TIMDr. Grant?

They join Grant by his side.

LEXWhat’re you looking at?

GRANT(smirks)

Oh nothing really...

Pulling away from the three, we see the boat is sitting entirely on top of water, not a building or a bump sticking out. Further going out, the whole city is flooded. Then further going out, the whole country...

FADE OUT.

THE END
