Programme Summary

English Lessons

At IH Manchester our classes are small and our teachers use our specially designed junior English language syllabus and materials to ensure that all our young learners are involved, motivated and active throughout each classroom session. All four skills are taught with a special emphasis on activating spoken fluency and developing enhanced listening comprehension. Each student automatically has the opportunity to take the Trinity College London Graded Examination in Spoken English (GESE) at the end of their course. Some classroom sessions are designed around our excursion destinations to help our young students enjoy and learn as much as possible from these visits.

The Professional Club Trial—your chance of a lifetime!

Every soccer player dreams of being able to trial in front of a pro club coach or scout. To be given the chance to show their skills and get feedback. Can you imagine how good you would feel if you got asked to then come back and trial some more? Because the coach really did like what he saw. And now he wants to take a closer look. Imagine that after this an English pro club actually like you so much that they want to sign you on a pro contract as an acad-emy player. Does that feel exciting? Well, this is the opportunity that we give to all our young players. UK Football Trials or-ganise and run our own exclusive EduKick Manchester Pro-club football trial at the end of week two!

"I want to personally thank you for giving me the confidence that you always had Quinn's best interests in mind. You gave me total peace of mind that he was always in a safe environment where he was surrounded by well - intentioned adults, who allowed him to mature at his own pace.” Sean Bredin – father of Quinn Bredin age 14 years, Canada.

Residential University Campus

University of Manchester

The campus is situated a few miles outside the city centre of Manchester and is approximately a 15-20 minute drive from Manchester airport. Our accommodation will be located in the residential buildings at Woolton Hall (see campus map above). The dining hall, classrooms/activity rooms and common area are located in the main building. Woolton Hall is a very short distance away from The Armitage Sports Centre where students will participate in various activi-ties. The security centre is also nearby. The residential university campus offers our student spacious, well-kept accommodation and plenty of secure outdoor space.

Our Junior Vacation Programme is located in Woolton

Hall student residence on Manchester University cam-

pus. All accommodation, English lessons, all meals and

most activities are on site. This offers our junior students

a truly safe and secure environment during their time

with International House Manchester.

As always our students are supervised by our staff at all times.

Each student will have their own single study bedroom with wash basin. Stu-dents will share bathroom facilities with showers, with approximately one show-er to every four students. There is a bathroom located on each corridor of bed-rooms.

The programme is full board, meals will be served from the cafeteria in the main dining hall each day or a packed lunch will be provided for excursion days.

Wifi Access - Wifi is only available in the main building where the dining room / common room and classrooms are located. Parental consent will be required for students to access the Wifi during the junior vacation programme.

Laundry—There is a small student laundry room on site which is available for students to use when accompanied by a member of staff or group leader. There is a small charge to use the laundry facilities.

Our Promise to Parents

An Investment in your child’s education

At IH Manchester we understand that as a parent, choosing an English language vacation programme for your son or daughter, you need to

be sure that your child will take a considerable positive advantage from the experience. It’s understood that safety will always come first. But, you are making an investment in your child’s future and so you also need to be sure exactly how our summer vacation programme will actu-ally help them achieve their academic goals.

At IH Manchester, we are parents, too. So, as Directors, we have designed our courses around the simple test question:

“Would I send my own child here?” We can always answer “yes” and these are some of the reasons why:

How will the IH Manchester Junior Vacation Programme benefit my child more than any other summer junior course?

We operate within a friendly but firm “English Language Only” culture From the moment that your child arrives with us here in Manchester all our staff will insist that the only language of communication allowed will be English. We want your child to improve their language skills as much as possible while here with us and so preventing

them speaking in their own language by re-enforcing our “English Language Only” policy is an extremely effective part of this process. 100% international integration – from day one until departure

We host students from all around the world and have a great nationality mix. However, for this to actually help your child to rapidly improve their English language skills, a school must continuously strive to actively integrate all students from different nationalities, first languages and cultures from the moment they arrive on campus. We work with group leaders to design all our accommodation, dining,

activities, classes, games, excursions and sport sessions to ensure that groups travelling together are mixed up. When done carefully and comprehensively this has so many other positive advantages for your child; they will make new friends from different backgrounds and learn about new cultures. They will take a more international view of their world and wake up to the many opportunities this offers

them. And all the time they are speaking English! Educational excursions and activities – designed to promote English language learning

All excursions are fully integrated in to your child’s learning programme. Before each excursion students will have teacher led prepara-tion in class. Their teacher will ensure that they understand where they are going to and what they will learn from the trip. So your child will understand the historical context and importance of a particular location which also allows our teachers to introduce key vocabu-lary. There will then be a task set whilst on the visit and a follow up session in class when we return. Your child will be so involved and

absorbed they won’t even remember that they are working exclusively in English! Each Student has the opportunity to take the Trinity College GESE exam

So whilst they are with us, all our junior students can prepare for and take the Trinity College “Graded Examination in Spoken English”. This is an excellent tool to help focus your child’s efforts and motivation and provides them with an end goal to work towards. And Trinity College English exams are recognised throughout the world. At IH Manchester we will expect your child to achieve their very

best and then have something concrete to prove it. Daily Learning Focus

All our junior students are provided with our unique “Diary style Student Workbook”. This enables our students to record the key learning points from each day as well as any useful notes they wish to keep. Every piece of work they complete will be kept here for

you to examine on their return. Furthermore, your child’s class teacher will also make a daily entry in the student workbook to record

the level of effort demonstrated, progress made and motivation invested in their daily lessons. This makes sure that your child under-stands that we care about their learning and that they are accountable for their performance in every class.

“We strive to empower and enable each individual student to reach their goals, in a culture of leadership and achievement.” Peter Hayes – Director – IH Manchester
